Just wanted to say that what you’re doing is pretty damn great Nards.

I have a friend who was supposed to be there that day. He was an electrical engineer and one of his projects was at the WTC. He slept through his alarm that morning. His family couldn’t contact him for 3 days.
They must have thought the worst. Can you imagine the immense degree of elation when they found out he was alive after 3 days?
I’m going to school right now to become a firefighter and one of my teachers showed a pretty amazing video yesterday about some 9/11 firefighters. It was called “the Bravest” or something like that. It was intense.
I’ll be doing the stairs tomorrow as well. Good stuff Nards
Great stuff Nards! That’s an awesome gesture to make dude.

Nards will keep the pace. I won’t even guess what your time will be, but I’m betting it will be an all out effort.
MR. David…your avatars as of late have me hyptnoootizzzeeeddddd…, huh?
Last year my company did the Tunnel to Towers run. It was probably the most patriotic thing I’ve seen. We sang cadences the whole way, and we had thousands of people to the sides of just clapping/cheering the whole way. That has to be the easiest 3.1 miles I’ve ever ran.
At the beginning I also saw some guy, presumably a firefighter, do the entire run with a gas mask on while dragging a tire behind him.

Good luck Nards, glad you’re doing your bit to mark the day. I visited the WTC Memorial in March this year on a very cold, wet NY afternoon. I was in NY only for the day and above everything wanted to make sure I went here. It was so moving and inspirational, probably the most moving place I’ve been to. I’m quite an empathetic guy so when I felt what individuals went through, it was just a powerful experience. The tour guides on the day were volunteers they each had their story to tell about the day.
There was one story that stuck in my mind about FDNY fire fighter Stephen Siller “who was off duty on 9/11/01 when he heard of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. He headed to his firehouse to get his gear and head for the fire, and since all tunnels and bridges were closed to traffic after the attacks, Siller ran through the Brooklyn Battery Tunnel and to the World Trade Center… wearing his full firefighter gear.” (quoted from elsewhere). That has to be one of the bravest things I could of ever imagined.
It so happens I’ll be running a Army run on Sunday, it’s only 5km but I’m not a runner. I have extra inspiration now. Thanks Nards.
That was the run I did. Running through that tunnel was shit. To think that Stephen Siller did that with his gear is awe-inspiring.

Nards, use this trick. It will help you get up the stairs faster.
WWVD
Nards that is one of the best ideas ive ever heard. Ive always wanted to be a FF and am well on my way to achieving that goal. To this day certain 9/11 stories bring a tear to me eye. My uncle was one of the civilians to head TO the towers after he saw the crash, he didnt work in the towers. Another one of my cousins took the week off to fly home to chicago and was waiting at the airport when it happened. We lost some as well, may everyone rest in peace.
Also i really like the idea and intend to do it tomorrow as well, best of luck to ya buddy. Youre time will probably crush mine, but im still gonna do it.
correct me if im wrong, werent they 110 stories, why are we doing 91? could be a dumb question…

I’m going by memory that one of the planes hit one of the towers around the 91st floor and the other tower was hit on the 84th, so I picked the higher of the two.
Unlike the real firefighters and the ones that have also honored their fallen…I won’t be wearing any gear other than my normal gym clothes.
Truth is I have a weighted vest…but I didn’t really prepare for this enough that I’d go with the vest on.
Also, since I got back from Scotland I haven’t been able to find the charger for my camera’s battery…so me, the guy who almost always brings his camera to the gym, won’t be able to record it.
Are there any runs like this happening? Like up the Sears Tower or the Hancock or some other building, in remembrance?
PBAndy, is that run you did an annual thing? If not, it should be.
Well I did it…it was like hitting myself in the head with a hammer…it felt good to stop.
My time was 19 minutes 36 seconds. 91 floors.
I’m on the computer at the gym, so now I’ll stretch, drink lots of water, then head into the sauna for 15 minutes. It’ll feel hot as Hell in there. Hey, gotta do something for the terrorists too! They’re hot as Hell right now.

Hell yea!
I just got home after drinking 6 or 7 king cans of Budweiser, that means the 700ml ones or something close to that…the ones that are taller but the same thickness as a regular can of beer.
After the gym I took the subway then the bus, with a wait in between, so had two king cans, then got off the bus early just so I could have more. Taipei has convenience stores all over the place and you can drink in public so yeah. Now my girlfriend and I are going out to the nightclub.

This pic is kinda cheesy but I’m drunk now. I just like it.
You’re the man, Nards!
I salute you, brother!
You rock! Good job! Have fun relaxing after all that!
I think Ill do the stair master thing as well today. On base the general gave a speech through the microphone and I was wondering how I should commemorate. Today is squat day and jiu-jitsu as well so its going to be pretty brutal.
Ironic but when I went to bootcamp,September 11th was Training Day 1 for my company.
