Saftey in Mexico

So my lady and I are going to Cabo, Memorial Day weekend. Some of my family have expressed concern over the news saying that it is unsafe to travel to a few towns in Mexico. Usually they are only talking about border towns and some other northern cities. My dad jokinly told me to wear a sombrero and glasses all the time.

We are staying at an all inclusive resort but I we would like to go out and visit the local areas. Nothing out of cabo but thinking the beach, city, and ocean.

Any thoughts?

Fair skinned/light skinned didn’t make any sense.
I say do it.

I fixed it… Thx.

Oh, we are going. Just not sure what the fuss is about. We booked the trip at least a month ago.

Your family is paranoid. Honestly, you’ll be safer there than you’d be in major American cities.

I agree. Hell my Dad lives in PA.

A man was murdered at the gas station 300 feet from our bedroom @ a year ago. We live in Houston.

x2 man. The chances of getting killed or kidnapped in Mexico are like 50/50. There’s a likely chance that you’ll wind up dead in a few days, or snatched up for ransom money.

I wouldn’t go without 24 hr. protection, several firearms, and hand-to-hand combat training.

Remember, it’s a fucking WARZONE in Mexico and they play for keeps there.

Those nasty brown-skinned savages are among the most vile, contemptable and violent people on the planet. It’s worse than Baghdad.

Kill or be killed. In fact, on your first day in Mexico, you should kill a police officer in broad daylight so they know you aren’t fucking around. That way they know that you aren’t going to take any shit.

Good luck, and have fun! And remember to post pictures if you manage to stay alive.

Avoid the border towns.

I have friends that have been to Mexico several times in the last few years with no issue. I’ve heard it’s a good idea to avoid TJ and Juarez though.

In Cabo you’ll see more Americans than Mexicans. You’ll be fine.

I’ve lived in Tijuana most of my life, and shit is crazy here, i lived in San Diego for almost a year and a half, hated it, it was so quiet.

Cabo is a paradise, and you will find more Americans than Mexicans there, don’t worry about it, obviously stay out of the seedier areas and stick to the tourist friendly places, there’s absolutely nothing to worry about except sunburn. Wear your sunscreen.

If you speak spanish it would not be a problem, meaning you can better blend in, it is americans (tourists) that are being targeted. There are alot of light skinned mexicans, not everyone looks like george lopez. I am light skinned with green eyes and light brown curly hair and have visited family many times. As mentioned it is the border areas that are the real issue.

Tijuana is a shit hole. And not safe. I’m not even talking about the residents but about the cops. They are so corrupt it’s sickening. There’s no equal to it anywhere in the US.

5 years ago my friends an I crossed the border in a minivan. 7 of us. After 30 minutes cruising around at 3 am we decide to go home but got pulled over for no reason. The cop said since we didn’t have mexican insurance the fine would be be “eh…500 dollar”. He made it up on the spot. I call the car rental in front of him. He drops the fine down to 300 dollar. My friend in the back seat protests. The cop cuffs him, throws him in the back seat and tells us to follow him. The cop turns of the CB radio and turns on the music radio while my friend is cuffed in the back. We stop at a dark, quiet dead end.

“Eh… the car is ok now. The car is good. But the fine to take your friend back is 100 dollars.”

We paid the fine and got the fuck out of there. I’d never visit that shithole for a country again.

I can’t agree more with this statement. I am an American that moved from Arizona to Mexico about 4yrs ago and I feel much safer here than I do in the US. The border towns can be a bit rough, but I live in San Miguel De Allende. The media is really giving Mexico a bad rap and people with businesses down here are starting to really hurt. Juarez seems to be where all the commotion is. Other than Juarez and a couple of other border towns. Mexico is very safe. Have fun on your vacation.

All joking aside, leave your guns at home. If you get caught with a firearm in Mexico, you’re going to the big house.

Napoleonic law. Guilty until proven innocent.

This may sound cliche but life is full of risks. If you want to go then go. Just keep your wits about you and don’t “act” like a target or victim. Do the same when you come back and you lessen your risks here too.

Just saw a travel advisory for Mexico today in fact, it mentioned specifically the state of Chihuahua and the town of Juarez, and a few other border towns I don’t recall the names of. DOS/DHS has Mexico listed as terror threat mild(low, whatever the lower one is), and crime threat HIGH. This mainly stems from the cartel fighting going on at the border right now, so you should be fine in Cabo. Like was said above, have fun, but don’t be dumb. Pay attention to your surroundings, and don’t get too bombed outside the resort.

Kick someone’s ass the first day or become somebody’s bitch.

Dude find yourself a latina woman and you’ll be fine. My fiancee is Salvadorian and we have no problems. Going to Cozumel and Pregreso this summer. Anything with tourism will be cool
