Sad State of Affairs
vroom wrote:
Zeb,

You may have noticed by now that people who believe in God, people that don’t believe in God and people that have no opinion all find Steveo extremely annoying.
Hmmm…I’m still not convinced my friend. It seems that the majority of his attackers are indeed agnostic or atheistic. Granted there are those who think that there is a God “out there somewhere” who don’t like steveo. But otherwise, I wonder why anyone would click on a thread if they think they are going to be annoyed? Isn’t it a strong liberal belief to allow all sorts of speech in the media? It was not long ago I was told to simply click the radio station if I heard something that offended me when I was taking my kids to school.

You have an advantage here as you can see Steveo’s name with the thread title. If you don’t click it you will NOT be annoyed.

I don’t have a persecution complex vroom. I simply pointed out that steveo IS certainly being picked on for his very strong words. Certainly that cannot be denied.
However, I do have to say, what a person believes in this area should not preclude them from having an opinion. If it did, then you’d be “persecuting” those that didn’t believe.
I can agree with you here. Everyone is entitled to their opinion in a free society.

Beyond this I think that those who are attacking steveo should probably get used to being frustrated. It’s pretty obvious by now that the rules around here allow steveo to post whatever he likes regarding religion. You can certainly attack him for it, as that is allowed too. But I wonder where we go from here with all this?

He posts a religious thread…

You and others attack him for it which prolongs the thread. And this is a result that you don’t want, true?

Here is an alternative:

Steveo posts a religious thread, no one attacks him for it and the thread ends sooner, or perhaps barely gets off the ground. Isn’t this the result that you DO want?

The worst case scenario (for you and some others) is that a few respond in a positive way and then it ends.

Just a thought.

Of course, only we can make the change. My blinding hatred of SteveO has made me reply on many of his threads, but that is going to change.

We can get back to talking about politics. And it’s about time.
As the most political forum members, we make a nonagression pact betweent the Left and the Right in order to get the shit back to the way it used to be. Then, like Stalin and Hitler,we can turn on each other and do what we do.

Anyway, let’s get back to politics.

Hate will only eat you alive, Irish. I will pray for you.

I wish a polar bear would eat you alive, Steve.

Hey! According to the Prof, I’m in charge of the ‘wake of destruction’ around here!

BTW, Nephorm, Wreckless, and I are discussing the value of Spinoza’s philosophy on another thread. In the spirit of Christian fellowship, all are welcome!

These public forums are open to everyone that wishes to post their ideas about a wide range of subjects.

The fact is that the hate that is directed to me is just because I am a Christian that will not keep silent about his faith. It is that simple.

It is the height of hypocracy to spew garbage that I should be banned from these forums for telling others how they might know God, while those who use foul language and hate should remain on the board.

These boards do not belong to any individual, but to all who post.

Grow up, get a life, and recognize that in the free world, open discussion, debate, proclaimation, and yes, even preaching, can be done openly and in all public forums.

It’s not a cut and dried as you being persecuted for your views. I am a Christian also and I have to say I take offense at how you sometimes express your faith. The thread about Jesus or Burn is a fine example.

Ask yourself Steveo, would you find Christ talking like that?

You don’t have to do much ‘asking,’ but you can do much reading. Why don’t you open your Bible and read in the Gospels all of the references where Jesus spoke to people (usually religious hypocrites – yes, Jesus used that term) and preached Hell to them. That they would burn forever. That it will be everlasting fire. That their will be weeping and gnashing of teeth. Yes, Jesus told it all – because He is a God of love and mercy, He told people what they could be saved from. So your statement is a bit of a puzzle, unless you have never read the Bible or conveniently have a memory loss for those references. My challenge to you is to go and find them and then get back to us.

Or would he reach out in love and set the example? Would there be forgiveness? I don’t care for the way you portray the Lord sometimes. He comes of as comtemptous and hateful. That’s not the Christ I know. Your ferventcy, if thats a word is not in question. Your choice of outreach I think sometimes is.

Just my opinion.

That’s fair. It is difficult to portray “emotion” and “tone” in written form. I would say that if you look at my posts, they really do reflect Bible teaching.
I disagree. You seem so busy being preoccupied with being “right” you come off EXACTLY like those you rail against. You sound like the Pharisees who preach/pray loudly in public so that all will see him and think what a devout man of religion you must be.

I’m sorry my statement puzzles you. Perhaps you are the one that needs to go back and read and find out what our Lord is all about. You act as if you have some kind of authority to preach to people in this manner. With your “fire and brimstone” and pompous righteousness. I believe if you consider yourself a disciple of Christ, you will find that his command to them was to, “love one another as I have loved you.” None of your listeners is feelin the love Steveo.

Consider my point instead of berating and belittling.

Why don’t you read those portions where Jesus taught on Hell and eternal punishment and get back to me. Jesus didn’t allow religious hypocrites and claimers to forget that there are ETERNAL CONSEQUENCES for disbelief.

Bow or Burn…it’s what Jesus taught!

You guys, this is just egging him on. If you want the preaching to stop, then don’t respond to his threads. I’d like to see him start a “Jesus Rocks Out with His Cock Out” thread that winds up with zero replies.

That means no posts from you assholes saying “you suck”, “fall off a cliff”, or “I hope lions eat you.” I think pretty much everybody here has had a fair shot at him by now (I’ve had several myself), and if he’s still going at it, one more “you’re a moron” post isn’t going to change things.

Stop enabling his persecution/self-loathing complex. Every time we tell him he’s an idiot, it gives him a little bit more of a boner. You guys don’t want all the “low quality metrics” threads as well as all the others all covered in steveo skeet, do you?

Let’s think here, people. Get it together.

Should we PM anyone caught replying to Steveo to explain the boycott and ask him to join?

Something like:

"Dear ,

A majority of T-Nation regulars have concluded that SteveO’s threads about God and the Bible are disruptive and are not presented to invite the free debate of ideas, but to judge and condemn aynone who doesn’t conform to SteveO’s world view.

Therefore, a boycott of those threads has been proposed and adopted, and we’d appreciate it if you would refrain from feeding the troll.

Signed:
with a link to the thread where they gave assent, so that the recipient can verify that the listed names aren’t simply made up by the originator of the PM.

Debating SteveO on topics other than religion, the Bible and being born-again, would, of course, be entirely permissible, as long as those topics aren’t introduced along with the other arguments.

I shouldn’t take credit for knowing the answer to that question – I Googled it.

I am not so sure I agree that is a basic question (although I could be kidding myself).

You are right that there are too many people who lack the most basic knowledge of history, geography, politics, and culture. But I don’t think that applies to many of the people who frequently post on this politics board; maybe not even any. I was kidding around when I said “can any of you other dumbasses tell him it was Nikita Khrushchev”.

p.s. I know a few basic facts about Nikita Khrushchev without having to look them up; but not that one.

You are an interesting combination of comedy and tragedy. Comedy because you make no sense, yet you want others to believe that you can figure out a person over an internet forum. You have been and continue to be so wrong – actually it is funny.

You are a tragedy because you actually think you are in the position to judge another’s spirituality? How spiritual are you? How about we go through a listing of comments you have made this past year? Vroom, you are in as much a position to judge my spirituality as Bill Clinton is to judge someone’s morality.

Jesus did say turn the other cheek, but He did not say that we are to be doormats. From time to time I do point out in a straightfoward way what needs to be pointed out – this doesn’t make me any less Chrisitan. Look at some of the language that Jesus used to hypocrites (such as yourself, Vroom). You might be surprised, but you will also learn something as well.

The amazing thing is that you come back with all of this personal drivel, becuase you cannot possibly refute the Biblical truth that I proclaim on these threads. You cannot argue effectively against God’s Word, so you resort to 12 y/o behavior of name calling and pseduo-psychological diagnosis. It is a pathetic attempt to discredit God’s Word – it ain’t working.
