Squat
100kg x 1/1
110kg x 1/1
120kg x 1
135kg x 1 (felt heavy, lost the groove, so it came up slower than I would have liked)
147.5kg x 1 (hell yeh!!! This was the prescribed max of the program and this time stuck the groove and it went up faster than the 135kg. Felt a huge surge of confidence)
then…
150kg x FAIL (WTF…the weight felt as heavy as the 135 but position was off, foot placement or hip was out of proper alignment, went down into the hole and got it up halfway, but the mind wasn’t willing and didn’t attempt to grind it so I dumped it)
Got pissed at myself, considering the way the 147.5 went up, I felt I was good for 152.5 to 155 today, so I regrouped, stalked around the rack for about 10mins like a hungry lion, reloaded the bar and…
150kg x 1 !!! (I got it!!! It wasn’t pretty and didn’t go up fast at all - actually, I think I spent about 3 secs in the sticking pt but I stayed with it and it went up. Trunk stayed fairly upright, with slight forward lean and again I gotta thank Neo for advising to work abs all the time - heavy weights now do not give me the “oh shit this is heavy” feeling and it seems my legs now limit my squat.
Overall, I’m very happy with my results, +10kg gain in 6 weeks is more than acceptable, money in the bank baby!!!
Hell yeah dude, way to get back in there after a miss and get it. That is awesome! Very cool. I think it’s actually more awesome that you got it after a miss. Congrats.
Yeh I think those are the hardest lifts, having to come back after a miss. It really screws with your head and it’s amazing how powerful the mind is if you allow the negative thoughts to take over. After that miss I basically convinced myself that it was just a foot placement issue and that the next attemtpt was in the bag.
Test again next week to see if you can edge it a bit more. Do the recovery squats this week though.

Cheers mate! Yes a 2nd test in about a week’s time was the plan.
I did a squat session yesterday, though it wasn’t what I would call “recovery”.
10/12/2010 - morning session
Squat
after warmups…
100kg x 1/1
110kg x 1/1
120kg x 1
130kg x 1
140kg x 2/2/3 ← set and rep PR
Abs: hanging leg raises
BW x 20/16
My neck hurt really bad after the squats and all day yesterday it was really stiff. Could barely turn my head 30 degrees each side. Today the range of motion is a bit better but the right side neck muscles are extremely tight. Gonna take it easy the next few days!
