No way, couldnât possibly have happened. They said peace and daisies would reign down and Russians and Ukrainians would hold hands and sing songs next to a rainbow. Farts would smell like roses and a loaf of bread in every house.
I guess the big losers will be Europe when China is top dog. The Americans can get by over there on their own, but we will live next door to Chinas junior mad dog partner. Good times.
âHe wonât do it, it will just be too damaging to the Russian economyâ
LOL
Some day soon I guess the UK and EU will wake up to the fact to âthe international communityâ does in fact not include the whole world, and there are plenty that will love to see US hegemony end, and the wealthy descendants of old colonial powers in Europe get their due. India comes to mind.
Maybe extracting the gas has become difficult enough now that all the foreign companies have left Russia, that itâs not even worth it any more? I donât know, but I read somewhere that all the âeasyâ oil and gas is extracted, and the rest is much harder to get out.
Edit: sounds like the âpaying in rublesâ bit is a bit of a misnomer. Never trust the headlines.
Yeah I heard this. Unfortunately, it seems like those sanctions hurt us more than it did him. He seemed to manage to turn that situation around quick. I gotta give it to him, the rouble dropped 30% after the sanctions and itâs back up now. And why wouldnât he pull the trigger on this move?
I wouldnât have made that threat idly. But I am not him.
They need Russiaâs energy more than he needs them to buy it. And a couple of days with the taps shut off, they will comply, they have no choice. That is of course, if what is reported is correct, which, who knows, but Europe gets 40% of its energy from Russia. This should be fun⊠Maybe itâs an april fools joke?
It is mostly Germany in these 40 % as far as I am aware. But Germans are stupid to go all in on green, shut down their nuclear and coal and relly on Russian supply. Angela Merkel killed Germany and was about to kill EU. Good thing France has energy and did not shut it down, because Macron is as horrible as Merkel. EU leadership has been horrible the past 10 years. Woke ideas, green energy and no wonder UK left, while East Europe stagnated in corruption wondering why the heck West Europe cares so much about immigration, race and green energy.
I remember back in 2000, when I was working in Italy and the EU was still fairly new. Everything was hunky-dory for a while, until the EU issued itâs first cultural/ social decree, across the EU. I donât remember what it was, but I was reading about it in one of the English language papers they had, and a bunch of countries had a cow over it. It was the first attempt by the EU to act as a federal body, over the countryâs own governments. It was an obvious attempted to homogenize the continent, but the backlash was fierce and swift and in those days, member states told the EU to go fuck itself. It was that day, I knew the EUâs days were numbered.
I am kinda surprised it has taken this long. But without England, it may go on a little while longer, but eventually, I think it will fall apart.
I find it super interesting that Europe let the EU be run by, of all people, the Germans. Seriously, the Germans? The guys who started the last 2 world wars? There would have been no way in hell I would have acquiesced.
I love Europe, and I find the lackadaisical laid-backness of Europe to be pretty awesome to live around, but that type of attitude does not result in good governance. You need serious people with serious skills to run that body and it just doesnât exist. You have very silly, unserious people in charge to the EU and itâs going to hurt Europe, IMO. Nobody in the EU has any balls.
