Gee, thanks for that eloquent retelling, like I didn’t know what’s being reported. The Ukrainians are fighting admirably, I have always said that. Yes, they get some minor victories and win some minor battles to stave off the inevitable. They are doing as well as can be expected, for what we can know, vs. what is actually happening. But wars are won by will, goal, and resources. And Russia has more of those three, than Ukraine does. Ukraine is totally calculating on the West stepping in. Which seems more and more likely, just a matter of when.
LOL! I just burned my lawn last week! It grows back amazing.
I miss professor X.
I haven’t seen him in years. Not sure what happened to him, he just disappeared. I am sure there is a story, since he was on this site 24-7. Perhaps he was mean to the wrong person…
So you think the Russians INTENDED to get bogged down, unable to take the urban areas, and planned to spend a month shelling civilians while their tanks, troop carries, and supply trucks got picked off?
How did that work out for them (or us for that matter) in Afghanistan?
it’s been years, so I can’t say I remember 100% of what happened, but he was banned, he did not leave on his own. I don’t think there was a specific post that got him banned (although I could be wrong), but he was generally detracting from the quality of the forums. All he wanted to do was argue with a handful of people on here, and he just wouldn’t back down or let things go. I think it was something that T Nation found was unappealing to new/potential members.
Hahaha, that’s one defeated looking woman there. Sorry Germany, no pivoting away from old Uncle Sam.
I’m routing for the Ukranian people as much as anyone, but the consensus on this board seems to be that the Russians are losing horribly and the map doesn’t look that way:
Honestly, that’s a weird looking map. For example, both Chernihiv and Sumy which are deep in the striped area are controlled by Ukraine as can be seen from daily reports.
In terms of English language info, I follow https://liveuamap.com/ for updates.
It’s not like there was a line of Ukrainian troops trying to hold the border and got overrun. In a lot of those areas, they let troops roll in and then cut off the supply lines. The map has basically looked the same for 3 weeks now.
It’s hard to say exactly who holds what (the map you show is more likely the areas that Russian forces have moved across, not the area they actually presently hold). The point is that Russia has not taken much of anything useful (cities, airports it can use, supply bases), has failed to cripple the ability of the Ukrainian military to fight back, and hasn’t been able to occupy areas in sustainable ways.
The current state of the Russian offensive is unsustainable and there isn’t an obvious path to making it sustainable. That’s what losing looks like. The territory they hold at the current time is much less relevant.
It’s pretty bizarre that the French MoD map shows more alleged Russian gains than Russians themselves claim in their propaganda briefings.
Yeah, sure he intended to walk in and be greeted as a liberator.
I assume anyone with the military comprehension above 6 years old knows war, no matter the adversary has it’s pitfalls, set backs and hold ups. However, if you want to go on believing that Ukraine is winning this, go nuts. Don’t let me get in the way of your delusions.
We lacked will and a goal and so did the Soviets, so not so hot. Did you miss that there were 3 categories, when you asked this?
Interesting, it must have been pretty vile. I remember he went nuts on me once, because he thought I doubted that he was a dentist or something, whatever he was, a dental surgeon? I don’t know, but it had to be a case of mistaken identity, I had no idea what he was talking about. Eventually he figured it out, after asking me to call his staff sergeant in the Army or something like that, lol.
Yup… Winners tend not to have occupied territory, they occupy territory… Hey it could all flip on a dime. For real, it can. It’s unlikely, but possible.
I think we have a problem with definitions here. I think if you want to define ‘winning’ as ‘without significant future outside interference, Russia is poised to eventually take control over Ukraine’, then yes, Russia is winning. But I think it’s also fair to say that Russia has not achieved what Putin wanted/expected to be able to do to this point, which can be considered a ‘loss’ to this point. Or at best a partial win. We’re getting bogged down with binary terms here. It’s also worth noting that when your last resort is nuclear warfare as an option, one could say you’re never truly ‘losing’. But the Ukranian defense has been significantly disruptive, and stronger than Putin expected it to be. I don’t think anyone would disagree with that.
That seems to be a problem everywhere these days. Supposedly very smart and qualified people don’t even know what a woman is. Hell, I knew what a woman was when I was 2. Sad.
All very astute observations.
If you’re expecting a Waterloo like decisive victory, from either side, that isnt going to happen. Wars justarent fought like that anymore.
And what on Earth makes you think Russia has all 3 now?
Where do you get the Russian map?
I don’t think the Russians have “control” of the shaded areas on the French map. However, if their forces have advanced through the area, and have control of the main roads then resupplying the Ukranian forces is going to be difficult at best.
It looks to me like Putin’s stab at Kiev has turned into a disaster but that his main effort has been in the east, where the Russians are having more success. When the Rasputitsa ends, they may do even better.
Leaving Ukraine a burnt out wasteland may be winning for Putin.
I think his feelings got hurt when they video taped his weak ass.
He evolved from occasionally helpful to constantly jerky.
Just my opinion.
