Russian Military Buildup Outside Ukraine

Meanwhile, the older american women are causing a scene at starbucks because they want a cappuccino without espresso.

Heh…How many people from Yemen or Somalia do you personally know?
On the other hand, Ukranians are everywhere. Everyone has Ukranian friends, co-workers and/or acquintances, or at the very least a Ukrainian maid or something.

When you watch a documentary about Gazelles, you learn about their lifestyle, social behavior, habits etc, and then you hope the lions doesn’t catch them.
When you watch a documentary about Lions, their lifestyle, social behavior etc, and now you’re rooting for the lion because you don’t want him to starve.

That’s just the way we’re emotionally wired.
Doesn’t have necessarily to do with skin color.

Edit: I know that was a stupid analogy, but I’m watching Seinfeld and I stole that from his intro bit in “The marine biologist” episode.

I’d bet I know more Somali folks than Ukrainians (first generation), and grew up with a couple Yemeni families. I have no doubt I know folks with Ukrainian heritage but it probably never registered as I just considered them generic white folks if their heritage never really came up. Then again, I would think eastern European heritage is far more common on the east coast of America than the west coast?

Not only that, but this was telegraphed in advance for weeks and the choice is binary. You can’t blame it on alleged “warring tribes” or “centuries old feuds” to muddy the waters This was a conventional invasion of another country.

It’s because all white people look the same
/s/

you guessed correctly. At least for the northern half of the east coast

Still, the spell has been broken for Europe for one simple reason. The realization that “oh shit, if it can happen to THEM it can happen to US.”

But that was always the case. And Russia wouldn’t have the balls to try this if not for the rise of China. And we all contributed to that. Not to mention our complicity in every war and war crime we like to blame the USA for. As long as we feel safe at home, who cares what happens, am I right?

Like I said, maybe it’s time for Olaf to wake up. He has turned a blind eye for a long time.

There is a ton on the east coast. I goof around about it, but you can usually see it in the last name, unless they changed it to hide nationality. C’s and Z’s everywhere. Like Wozniak, Knezavich, Davidovich all indicate nationality.

There was a massive world wide draw in the industrial era to work in the mills, mines, railroads.

Theres also the Catholic Charities organization that takes in large numbers of refugees and places them in nearby communities with sponsor families & stuff.

Every time you see something big on the international news like when everything broke out in Syria its only a matter of weeks before you see people from where ever what ever was happening at local grocery stores.

The Ukranians should be here any day now.

Meh. That story was dumb as hell. That woman could say whatever she wants. A decent person wont hurt an elderly woman no matter what shes saying. Theres no threat. Think about that in a total war context and she probably would have got a bullet in her head. Or if it were a military aged man saying that.

What the actual shit is that?

So whats going to happen whe Zelenski goes before congress and asks for a no fly zone? Pull at the heart strings, a jump in polling, and everyone gives in? Would congress even vote or would Biden just go for it? Thoughts? Predictions?

Actually it’s not, it’s an indication of a bigger problem. The old woman in question is from the Russian speaking eastern part of Ukraine. The Russian speakers there were allegedly “terrorized” by “nationalists” from the west of the country and even the more saner members from the Putin’s inner circle assumed outright that these are the people that will welcome them with open arms.

That was not the case, so due to the lack of cooperation they’ve resorted to Stalinist tactics of kidnapping, murder and looting. They have no more qualms about it, but it’s much easier when you have a cooperative population that doesn’t require employment of additional occupational/pacification forces in rear areas.

Not to mention Ukrainian territorial defense unit of actual Russian speakers attacking supply convoys/tying down troops and compounding already massive logistical problems.

I’ve no idea, but they’re everywhere in western Europe. For the most part, either Ukranian natives or first generation, since they started migrating after '91.

Its a lot like the school we used to wrestle that would hold their awards ceremonies Before the match.

I understand that these things may be lost or not register to some.

Art, I guess?

Yes.
Also the fact that someone with more than a couple nukes might want to expand beyond Ukraine and has in fact threatened other European countries.

Not everyone. There will be at least two that do not.

But, but that’s why we needed this war! Things are going so badly at home, we needed a distraction and somebody else to blame. It’s a distraction and away to put all of biden’s failures on putin… Gas? Putin. Inflation? Putin. Recession? Putin. Wide open southern boarder? Putin. These nimrods think they can control war… Well, they are in for a shock. Saudi’s won’t even take biden’s call and will happily deal with China in Yuan. End of the petro-dollar right on the cusp. If you think inflation is bad now, wait until that happens.

I’m well aware this whole situation is the perfect distraction for all the big players, who are coincidentally all having troubles with regime popularity.
