Russian Military Buildup Outside Ukraine

it took you guys thirty years to figure that out? Read some correspondence between Voltaire and Catherine the Great to understand that was the case from the beginnings of Enlightenment.

People are dumb scum and a tiny super-rich (super-privileged) should decide on everything. It was always the same - the entire concept of democracy is deeply abhorrent to them.

Apparently the regieme went in and meddled with a democratically elected PRO- RUSSIAN government

Ah yes, the corticosteroids prescribed to my daughter when she had a diaper rash made her so ripped that she invaded Ukraine too. I fully understand.

There are some steroids (not AAS) that give you something known as “moon face” but this is blatantly apparent, not something as subtle as what this bullshit alludes to.

P.S Vlad do be looking ripped tho (sarcasm)

EDIT: I agree with you, I was just taking a moment to rag on the article. Didn’t want it to come across as if I was being hostile towards you =)

The Queen of England be punching the air right now if this entitlement was enabled everywhere

Unless you’re Alex Navalny and you ran for ‘president’ against Putin

Wasn’t Kievan Rus the predecessor of Russia going back 7-800 years?

Longer than that, more like 9th century. Kievan Rus was founded by the Rurik dynasty, who were Scandinavian traders and explorers.

Vikings, in other words.

Ukraine rightfully belongs to the King of Sweden.

She’s actually the Queen of the United Kingdom mate

I would say that this comment is pedantic, but I’m also the weird person who insists that ppl say “Soviet Union” or “Moscow” instead of “Russia” when refering to Russia between 1921 and 1991
(unless they’re refering to something that literally occured within the borders of Russia)

My friend (that one) calls me out for that. BUT I point out that he is also one of the most nitpicky ppl I know

Incoming ignorant post
Most americans don’t know/care about the differences between britain, england, or the united kingdom
I quite seriously use the terms interchangably because they are all the same to me.
So being queen of the UK seems to fit IMO, but this is what I was getting at

I think “Britain” and “UK” are interchangable, like “Soviet Union” vs “USSR”

“England” is like saying “Russia” when you mean “USSR”, unless you literally mean the subsection of the island that is England

It really boils down to why would I believe the media now, after all their lies. Lie after lie, after lie. I am not even sure who the good guys are, if there are any. I know Putin is one of the bad guys. But our inability at the slightest attempt at dĂ©tente, no negotiation? IT makes me really question the west’s motives here. Nothing was negotiable, really? I am supposed to believe that? Verifiable, 100% provable lies.
Europe was so lazy and unconcerned. It was almost like they didn’t believe this was possible. And still they look to us. Well, Europe needs to get off their ass and deal with their own back yard.

I like the sanctions thing. “We sanctioned the shit out russia! We crippled them!” , except the oil, we left that alone, cause God forbid we drill our own oil because saving the planet means oil has to come out of Russian ground, not US ground. Our leaders are asshats. They have no idea what they are doing. They thought focusing on diversity was the best idea and competence at the jobs are incidental, well welcome to war. Somebody was going to test our resolve. Especially after Afghanistan. If I were China or Russia, I stood up and took notice of that. And if I want something, I am going to take it while this administration is in power. 'Cause we look like the Keystone Cops. Psaki says one thing, on the other side of the building the State Dept. says the exact opposite.
I mean think about it. The ‘ghost’ man thing shooting down a bunch of Russian Migs? That’s WW1 reporting. The videos of rockets being shot, from a video game, for crying out loud. The Ukrainians may be fighting valiantly, but they are losing and losing badly. Ukraine will fall, it’s not a matter of if, but when.

Eeeh
Moscow was one the very few towns that wasn’t razed during the Mongol invasion (Mongols didn’t want to bother with a detour during a massive blizzard and Muscovites were willing to hand over all their money) and simply co opted the name of a more successful monarchy down south whose extreme northern part they once were. It was a PR move at the time.

No, because the current King of Sweden is a descendant of a semi-literate French revolutionary madman who was banging Napoleon’s sister.

Actually the USSR from 1922 onwards was remodeled after the old Tsarist Empire. That’s why so much hatred for Lenin amoung the current Russian elite (listen to Putin’s speech declaring war)

I find these two to be far more different than england vs UK, but that’s only because I’m somewhat educated on the USSR. Still, I agree that most people use them interchangably

My Russian history prof (for a class focused on the USSR) always got very annoyed when the students said “Russia”.
This happened quite a bit since most of the students were taking the class as a “fun” or gen ed

Modern education folks! Narrative over facts.

“Does the US not bank roll Israel’s modern day genocide and ethnic cleansing?”
No. That’s plain stupid. Such an accusation requires proof. And there is none. Genocide, lol. That’s China, dude. If Israel wanted to genocide the Palestinians, they would have done it by now. It’s not like Hamas hasn’t given Israel plenty of reason to go in and clean house once and for all.
Only one side even want’s genocide and that would be the Palestinians. They are the ones who require the death of all Jews and the destruction of Israel in their charter. Not the other way around.

How is it pedantic?

The tax money I gladly pay funds her lifestyle. She’s my Queen too

I was going by some google fu showing Slavs mingling with Norsemen around 700AD. Being an outpost, wouldn’t that be predecessors, more or less founders of pre empire Russia?

Confess to knowing zero of the history of the part of the world. Go USA!

It was something of a hodgepodge of Slavic, Baltic and Finnish tribal people. Details are murky because those backwards and shifty Eastern Europeans didn’t bother to develop a system of writing to tell us what they were up to in the first millennia.

Soviet Union is short for Union of Soviet Socialist Republics. Or as the Russians used CCCP.

What do you want to know? I am one of those slavs. I am the product of escapee’s from the communist bloc.
