Russian Military Buildup Outside Ukraine

That report is about Russia, right?

Yes. I was hoping for a comparison chart or something but couldn’t find much for visual - only longer documents
This is the best I came up with.

Big ones

  • Russia isnt too fond of religion, they’ve cracked down on various religions (including Christianity before) in the past

  • the “right to bear arms” yall have in America would likely be replaced with “priviledge”

However to my knowledge Russia isnt as authoritarian as the likes of China or Singapore
but politics over there are insanely corrupt

Russia also has one of the highest divorce rates in the world @brickhead

Far exceeds that of the US, Aus, most of Europe etc.

No, he seems to believe that America is out to destroy Russia and that is planning a preemptive nuclear strike sooner or later. This is kind of a big deal because even Khruschev at the height of the Cuban missile crisis didn’t actually believe that.

He also claimed that it’s imperative to return to pre-bolshevik (meaning pre-1917) borders of Russia which are “more defensible” to counter the American threat.

The problem is that these “more defensible” borders include complete or partial territories of nine European countries (Ukraine, Moldova, Romania, Poland, Belarus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Finland).

So, it’s a shitshow for the foreseeable future.

Good luck securing that one

What does this have to do with America? Is Putin going to be my president?

Sorry

I thought the question was “how would it affect me if Russia took over”.

I wasnt really paying attention, was responding to “how would it change my life”.

If Russia took over, America wouldn’t have freedom of religion, you wouldn’t be able to own a gun amongst a few other things.

Is it?

As specified.

I wasn’t really paying attention

I saw

This

Followed by a report regarding the current sociopolitical state of Russia and I erronously inferred we were talking about a “what if” in terms of Russia taking over.

My bad

@brickhead

And the answer for someone such as you or myself
probably not THAT much. We’d still be able to live normal lives. I’d have to shut up regarding my sociopolitical views, at this current point in time I believe jews and christians can practice in private (though no door knocking or public demonstrarions)

I mean, you go to a bar in Aussie city centres and they take your ID, scan it
take a picture of your face, upload both onto government database, and they’ll do it again throughout the night if you visit a new venue

Seriously asking
in terms of surveillance, would Russia be THAT much worse?

Do you think America became and stayed the world’s economic and military superpower, with all the associated benefits, by utilizing an isolationist approach?

Honestly, I have a hard time processing questions like these. I think this is the reason for all those throwing-toys-out-of-the-pram anti mask protests - spoiled Westerners who’ve never experienced anything resembling a totalitarian society claiming that everything is “dystopian” or a “dictatorship”.

Short answers, yes. Long answer - think of the absolutely worst possible nightmarish scenario you could think of in your wildest dreams and then multiply it by twenty.

Five years in the Gulag for a fourteen year old kid for playing Minecraft doesn’t even begin to scratch the surface of actual calamities that could befall you.

When has Putin spoken about putting restrictions on practicing Eastern Orthodoxy?

Maybe questioning government is the reason those folks haven’t experienced “anything resembling a totalitarian society.” Seemed that those who have bent over first and most enthusiastically during that crisis of the moment.

Well, it’s because victory wasn’t the agenda. We didn’t have to go with the nuclear option, literally. Just fight to defeat the enemy, completely. Any other agenda outside of that is a completely pointless reason to go to war.

The powers that be, want this war. Therefore it’s going to happen. And as the bodies stack up, you will see no such restrictions in combat as you saw in Afghanistan or Iraq. It’s going to be all out.
I just get this sense that the morons in charge think this will be yet another regional conflict and I see no such thing. Taking on Russia directly isn’t a joke. They have a very sophisticated military apparatus. The only way we come out unscathed is not to fight it. It’s Europe’s problem, let them handle it and we can grab our popcorn.
Sanity and levity is not this administration’s MO.

Mate

What I’m talking about occured well before the mask fiasco started. Not sure why you brought up masks

And Aus has conducted trials out of public eye on political whistleblowers.

Im talking about modern day Russia btw, I didn’t think Russia still had gulags
Russia under Stalin would have been absolute hell

Bullshit. He sees weakness and he is taking advantage of it. It’s not complicated.

This is where I don’t agree. We signed NATO under terms of “an attack on one is an attack on all”. While I don’t see massive NATO support coming out to the US, those are our allies
If we don’t fight for them, they don’t fight for us. This is very problematic.

Might want to Google that

If the U.S. goes to war with Russia, the decent States need to take advantage of their opportunity to get out of the mess that is the U.S.

I wholeheartedly disagree with the dissolving of our union, but that topic is much more suited for another thread. Happy to participate in a new thread revolving around this though.
