Russia Won't Go Away

Did anyone bring up Loretta Lynch?

No, no one sees what you mean because you have no idea what you’re talking about. No one expected big news regarding collusion with Russia, so there was no letdown on that in terms of testimony.

Yes, Comey did. Maybe you should watch it before spouting off on how there was nothing there.

Some people were expecting some massive revelation that would impeach Trump today such as that vacant fellow in the picture. Glad people here are being rational about.

Neither you nor I know anything about the guy in the pic (much less what he was thinking the moment that pic was taken), so let’s leave him out of this.

Re the hearing: That ‘it could have been worse’ does not change the fact that what was revealed yesterday/today was massively damaging to Trump.

Yes Trump seems devastated. Honestly I would like to see some evidence of a collusion other than a salty fired man without evidence.

I meant in this thread

To add, Comey called Trump & the WH liars, said he interpreted Trump’s “hope you can let this go” as a directive, and also said he could not discuss Sessions, Steele, Flynn, VEB Bank or Trump campaign communications with Russians. I imagine the closed hearings will be more fruitful.

My apologies then.

You’re confused in the manner I alluded to above. The ‘firing of the salty man’ may be part-and-parcel of obstruction of justice. It need not have anything directly to do with collusion.

If you think everything in the news is massively damaging to Trump then chances are you’re probably projecting your own hopes

Derp, nevermind. I misread your post.

Exactly. And lest someone thinks this is an unresolvable ‘he said/he said’ between Comey and Trump, remember that Comey has contemporaneous documentation to back up his version. And while Trump has hinted at having tapes of those conversations, Comey has made quite clear that he would welcome the release of such tapes.

Today Comey made it very clear that Trump wasn’t even under an investigation for Russia while he was director and that the media had it all wrong.
Comey also stated that Trump hadn’t ordered him to do anything in regards to Flynn or Russia.

Personally I don’t feel like this was obstruction of justice at all and Trump has not broken any laws, just done things in a unorthodox manner.

Comey called this nyt article fake

Yeah, this is what the Trump echo chamber is focussing on. Let’s take a look at the transcript in this regard:

[Senator] WARNER: […] Now I know members have said and press have said that a great deal has been made whether the president asked and indicated whether the president was the subject of any investigation, and my understanding is prior to your meeting on January 6th, you discussed with your leadership team whether you should be prepared to assure then President-elect Trump that the FBI was not investigating him personally. Now, I understand that your leadership team, agreed with that but was that a unanimous decision? Was there any debate about that?

COMEY: Wasn’t unanimous. One of the members of the leadership team had a view you that although it was technically true we did not have a counter-intelligence file case open on then President-elect Trump. His concern was because we’re looking at the potential, again, that’s the subject of the investigation, coordination between the campaign and Russia, because it was President Trump, President-elect Trump’s campaign, this person’s view was inevitably his behavior, his conduct will fall within the scope of that work. And so he was reluctant to make the statement. I disagreed. I thought it was fair to say what was literally true. There was not a counterintelligence investigation of Mr. Trump, and I decided in the moment to say it, given the nature of our conversation. [emphasis mine]

Doesn’t sound to me like a simple case of ‘Trump is/was not under investigation.’

If your conclusions are strongly influenced by the fact that Trump did not order Comey to do anything with regards to Flynn and/or Russia–an order Trump knew would result in Comey resigning on the spot, followed by a political conflagration when the reason for his resignation became public–it suggests to me that perhaps your conclusions were pre-ordained.

“Just done things in an unorthodox manner.” I’m going to have to remember that one the next time I get pulled over for speeding.

So should Comey be punished for leaking classified documents?

Except speeding is against the law, whilst Trumps actions are so far lawful.

This is pretty much the stance of the Trump echo chamber:

So the POTUS is casually admitting that maybe some of his team were colluding?

“Trump’s actions are so far lawful.” That’s another gem. You have real potential as an American political spinner should you want one. (Seriously.)
