Russia Won't Go Away

True, but ALL of them refused to answer that question…and all used the same language in their refusal.

Arguable. To me, it looks like Trump was dancing near, on or over the obstruction line, but I’m sure there’ll be plenty of attorneys arguing both sides of that one.

Since he released his opening statement today, I am very interested to see how tomorrow’s committee questions are crafted.

And, importantly, they didn’t provide an adequate reason not to answer to the question (and there’s only two, privilege or delving into classified information). But when pressed on the possibility that privilege might be at issue, they conceded they “didn’t know if they had a legal basis” - meaning, Trump’s administration offered zero support to prepare these guys for these questions (the privilege belongs to Trump, they wouldn’t just assert privilge without WH direction).

So, assuming best case scenario for Trump - he never really did ask them to drop part of an investigation - he has made sure to make this look worse than it is by not working with these guys to give good answers that would calm the waters. Instead, once again, assuming best case, Trump is making it look like he has something to hide when he doesn’t.

That is the main thing that sticks in my craw about Trump. At any point that an opportunity presents itself for him to make a statement that would calm things down he seems to choose the exactly wrong response.

He does, and it’s chronic. Even if he is exonerated of formal wrongdoing in this scandal with Russia, the fallout is that we learned what exceptionally poor judgment Trump has on all matters small and large.

Kind of ironic to see you post that when you’ve taken silence to mean consent many times in these threads with people who don’t agree with you

Agreed, and he could help his image massively by just not doing this. Even among people like myself who are obviously anti-Trumpers. He could help his policy goals, his investigation problems, his image, and his administration all together.

Maybe not. I have never said I thought impeachment would happen or that Trump is the mastermind behind some big Russian scheme. The thing is Trump doesn’t have that sort of long game thinking. We are talking about a President who has tweeted about a reality TV shows ratings. That alone should be reason for everyone left and right to say we messed up.

But hey you make some promises like we will build a wall (never going to happen) and people will forgive anything apparently. All the die hard Republican defenders would be losing their goddamn mind if you replaced Trump’s action with Obama. But Trump’s not black and not a Democrat so it’s all good. Who needs principles anyways?

Example? If I did it I was wrong.

I will say that having personal opinions is fine on the matter. If Tyler thinks Rubio’s silence makes it likely Trump engaged in wrongdoing, that’s different than actual evidence

This is dumb. There were no bombshells in the testimony, but on questions related to actual collision (or not), Comey didn’t answer and deferred to testimony that will be non-public. There may be no collusion, but today’s public testimony was never gong to answer that question.

Russia ‘hoax’? Not sure how that conclusion could be reached based on Comey’s testimony today:

"Ousted FBI Director James Comey dismissed President Trump’s claim that Russia’s meddling in the US election was a ‘hoax” or “fake news” — emphatically insisting “that’s about as un-fake as you can possibly get.”

Exactly. Today’s hearing regarded Trump possibly obstructing justice, not colluding with the Russians. That’s being covered elsewhere.

To be fair, given the plethora of scandals permeating this administration, it’s understandable that people could get confused as to which potential crime a given hearing is intended to address.

Same here.

What did Trump and/or his supports think the Comey’s testimony was supposed to show…or NOT show?

Someone getting voted off an island?

It was nice to hear Comey tell the truth which is Russia only cares about Russia and will continue to fuck with us for their gain. Unless we collectively do something about it. That means acknowledging it happened which is undisputed by everyone except morons at this point

I love how the standard of shocking or big news continues to debase.

First it’s collusion with Russia to rig the election (no evidence). Then it’s obstruction (no evidence).

Now it’s some empty statement with nothing behind it

From Twitter

James Comey admitted under oath to leaking information to the media through his friend. What else did Comey leak and when did he leak it?

Why hasn’t Comey looked at the DNC servers?

See what I mean about the debasement of what’s considered big news? This post is a perfect illustration
