Russell Crowe as New Sheriff of Nottingham

I saw this on Yahoo this morning, a new redo of Robin Hood which will be named “Nottingham”. Should be pretty good since Ridley Scott is behind this one, like Gladiator, Aliens, and Black Hawk Down.

Sounds like it could be very cool.

This could be really fucking good. I did enjoy the last rendition of RH and the spoof Men in Tights, but if anyone can do something fresh and new with the franchise, it’d be Ridley Scott.

Sounds awesome. Crowe as the bad guy will be awesome.

I also think that it will be very well done, and also dark the way Ridley Scott is know for being. Just wish they gave a release date for this movie. Not to mention Sienna Miller is not such bad eye candy.

They didn’t say who would be playing Robin Hood. Going against Crowe he’s got to have some serious acting chops. If they pick some vapid pretty boy like Orlando Bloom this flick could suck donkey balls.

That said, I’m looking forward to it.

IMDB says November 9th, 2009.

I heard they were making Robin Hood the bad guy in this one.

I’ve never been a big fan of Robin Hood at all, but with Ridley Scott and those actors, I’d be surprised if it wasn’t a pretty good movie.

Yeah, this is an alternative take on the material; the Sheriff is the good guy, and Robin Hood is the villian.

I agree that they will need a powerhouse actor to match Russell Crowe, or it will tank. Any ideas on who would be a good Robin Hood?

I liked Crowe as the badguy in 3:10 to Yuma. Too bad he is gonna be the good guy.

Depend on if he will be a crazy psycho type of criminal, or a good natured jovial theif (ala Errol Flynn). Possible good choices:

Christian Bale
Liam Neeson
Cillian Murphy (gain about 20 lbs)

crap, I just realized I cast Batman Begins.

He wasn’t really the bad guy in 3:10. His gang were the antagonists.

WTF? Crazy.

It will be from the point of view of the Sherrif, hence he’s the good guy and sees Robin as the criminal. After all he did steal from the rich and gave to the poor (or so he said).

I hope it’s not good guy/bad guy, but sort of an amoral establishment vs. the rabble rouser. I see the Sheriff of Nottingham as an apolitical guy who’s just doing his job, trying to enforce the law and keep order, while Robin Hood is, for better or worse, using the mob for his own ends.

Its tough to call on this, because in the Robin Hood Prince of Thieves version, Robin Hood is the good guy, while the Sheriff is the evil doer. But if Ridley Scott follows his form, he will portray Crowe as the good guy. Either way I think he plays both well. The cast will be interesting.

I could see that. You could really weave an intricate morality tale, between duty to a Prince who himself is immoral, the morality of stealing for a good cause, etc.

Oh please. He stabbed the guy in the throat with a fork because he didn’t like his singing. Just because he has a change of heart at the end due to respect of Christian Bale doesn’t excuse all of his bad deeds. Now he wasn’t like God v Devil clear cut pure evil but he was still bad.
