Rush Limbaugh Has Died

99 would be a surprisingly high IQ score from you.

No no. I was complimenting you!

I take everything as a compliment.

I’m glad. As much fun as this has been, I have to call it quits for a bit. Until next time

:joy: I had popped a handful of perks and smoked a big skunky joint before taking it.

The recruiters just about shit themselves with mine, and there was another guy down at the Federal building who got a 94, and we were the only ones testing for the advanced electronics and nuclear programs out of the entire regional batch of recruits.

3.5 mm. I never felt the need for an amp either. (what, like 3 watts? :joy:) But I had seen so much stuff about them in higher end audio stuff that I always felt like I must have been missing out.

That is beyond me. Is that like a little mosfet chip or something?

OMG!!! This thread is more annoying than the ā€œWhat’s this athlete’s BFā€ thread.

Z does troll a bit, but I don’t think he is BSing you.

The engineering is also way beyond me lol. Bust more or less they took the old class A amplifier and turned it into the size of a USB stick that can run from your phone’s charging port. Also, although I don’t remember the ins and outs of the classes of amplifiers I do recall being in a conversation with an engineer who said something interesting. Apparently the differences between classes for consumer audio was now negligible due to engineering and technology advances. So now you don’t have to spring for the top class amplifier to get a great boost.

Anyway, the Dragonfly does drain battery more than only headphones, but I CAN hear a difference when using it while listening to high quality source material (don’t use low quality MP3s). Also the volume can get louder :joy:. I have the mid range product.

Yeah. Even 20 + years ago, we had a system at home that used original mid-60’s McIntosh tube amps and Carver Silver-7t (solid state).

If anybody said they could tell a difference they were lying, except that the Carvers were 575 watts and the McIntosh were only 35 with fresh tubes.

So you could hear That difference from a few blocks away. :joy:

Do you guys just listen to headphones or do you have home systems as well? I’ve been getting back into some hifi stuff in the last couple of years. I’ve had/have Rega, Adcom, Nakamichi, Carver, Mirage, Dahlquist and some other stuff that I’ve been cycling through my system. I’m sure people who are really into it would call my setup up midfi but I’m not going to put a lot of money into it. I think I do need a pair of cans though.

I have a home system, but it’s just an off the shelf JVC and some generic headphones at this point.

I’m familiar with a few names you’ve mentioned (adcom, nakamichi, carver, dahlquist) because my dad used to do custom and commercial installations, and we had full run of a wide range of equipment.

Ive heard some supposedly high end (Very Expensive, not much oomph/$) equipment, and honestly some of it was just weak. Aleph, or Delphi or a few other boutique amps and a few others that sounded watered down and just lacked ass, especially with big highly dynamic full symphony stuff like Arthur Feidler and the Boston Pops (that always comes to mind, I don’t know why) where you have big tympanies, piccolo, strings, all playing at various times and levels.

None of the really ā€œhigh endā€ high fi stuff ever really tickled my fancy, but I also like/liked cranking Floyd or Metallica at levels that would rattle door jambs.

I’d just say give it a hard listen, run it to max Then see how much headroom it has. A dainty listen to some Yanni isn’t going to tell the truth. :joy: Especially if you’re talking about some of those 10k + pieces.

That’s so awesome! Fun fact, there’s a reason vintage guitar amps are so prized - the tube quality was much much higher in the 60s and 70s when the US armed forces were using tubes for most of their applications. When you contracted for ol’ Sam the specs had to be perfect. Since everything has moved away from tubes for major applications the consumer tube manufacturers have lost quality control significantly, and many switched over to Russian manufactured tubes and other cheap options.

I’d love a home system but location and budget don’t currently allow me to put together the system I would want. I listen primarily to music so I don’t care about the greatest home theater system as much.

Also I am almost always on the go. Thus cans + USB amp + master quality audio files it is. (Tidal Music)

Probably because

Lol.

Seriously though, it’s enough to test the quality of any system.

I’ve been a fan of some other brands but have to jet to a meeting here. More later

I am not super into stereo stuff, but I will say the difference from just using TV speakers to a decent sound bar with sub woofer is night and day. For sure worth the little over $100. I am sure there is a lot nicer stuff, but bang for the buck with the sound bar + woofer is really good IMO.

Agree.

Yeah I’ve heard some very expensive stuff that doesn’t seem worth it to me. There are people out there paying way more for interconnects than I have in my whole setup.

I use Tidal as well. I tried Qobuz, and Amazon Music but all things considered I like Tidal the best right now.

A pattern I have noticed with humans is to exaggerate (be willing to pay a lot more for) tiny details. I bet almost nobody can actually tell the difference between Dom Perignon and a bottom shelf version. The jeans at Cosco are almost the same as the Gucci ones. The Timex probably keeps better time with quartz movement than the Rolex, but people are willing to pay 100X just for tiny details being different. It doesn’t make sense to me, but I am not required to understand.
