'Rumors of My Demise are Greatly Exagerated'

Another strong Millie performance…gee, that’s a surprise…NOT!!! Nice training Rug.

Have you ever noticed…diff bench, diff bar, weight feels ‘wrong’ or ‘heavy’. It was like that yesterday.

Sat Feb 27, 2010

Bench 5/3/2

Hampster wheel, dislocates and warmups to 135 30 min.
1x5@185
1x5@205
1x3@235
9x2@265
1x4@265…this is the one that felt ‘heavy’.

Hammerstrength rows…sets of 5 to 2plates per side

Deload coming up, one more cycle, then switching to incline for a few go rounds. Gets me back in the gym where I can do a few differant things than at home. I think I’m gonna add weighted dips as my second lift with inclines instead of BBB. Need some heavy tricep work.

HiRep facepulls and pushdowns…3 sets

I think that would feel heavy in any case, but I definitely know what you mean. On the flip side, I’ve also used equipment at different gyms that felt lighter. Maybe there are variances in plate weight between manufacturers.

Once again, great millies and great bench.
I like to think that 265 feels heavy because it is  That’s like doing reps with my wife, daughter and youngest son sitting on the bar.

Gotta watch out - I trained at an L.A. Fitness for a week (vacation) and set a whole raft of PRs. Turned out all the big plates were 40lbs and not 45.

Leg Day

Again, no squatting, but still a hard workout. Leg press, pull throughs, and some ab work. Felt good when I left the gym. Felt even better after hanging from my inversion chair. Makes things pop in where they are supposed to be

Above note…I noticed the weight feels diff with diff bar lengths. The bars at the gym are shorter and the rings seem to be in a diff location. Thinking of measuring next time to test that theory. Also, I’m thinking bench height as well. And, thanx to all above. I do like this forum.

Yea, that too!!!

Interval training (treadmill) and pullups. Pullups are alot harder when you are 25# heavier than the summer. Oh well, can still get 3 to 5 full chins per set…so not too bad

Tues, Mar 2 2010

Seated Mils 5/3/1

Hampster wheel, dislocates and warmups 25 min

Seated Mils
145x5
165x3
185x1
210x1
220x1 PR!!! Felt like 230 might go but didn’t want to press my luck. A little wobbly.

BB Rows
3x5@135
160x3
180x3

HIRep skulls and curls 3 sets each. Switching to either standing push presses or hammerstrength mils next go round…haven’t decided yet.

Congratz on the PR! Great looking militaries.

x2 except for me its like have two wives sitting on the bar and no kids.

Nice work.

Well, since I’m switching up lifts…deload went out the window…‘There’s a fuckin suprize…’

Incline Bench
155x5
175x5
200x12

Weighted Dips
BW 2x10
25x5
35x5
2x4@45
1x10@45

Krocs
3x10@65

Hammerstrenght Pulldowns
90x5
140x5
150x5
175x5
195x5

Hammercurls
35x5
45x5

We’re gonna see how well weighted dips work toward improving my bench. On a side note…saw the oddest thing at the gym today. I saw a guy suffering from not only ‘ILS’, but ‘LMS’ as well. I couldn’t understand it though. Looked good for his size, if he weighed a buck forty, I’d be surprised.

Sunday Mar 7, 2010

Leg Press 5/3/1 style…nevermind the numbers
Front Squats…same way

Pullthroughs, back raises, and abs.

NO BACK PAIN AGAIN!!! Can’t cheat on Front squats (ass to grass all the way)…alot harder to screw up my back. Another SOYG note…again with the half-rep magees…this time on the leg press of all things. The more plates he put on, the shorter the length of movement. Same for hammerstrength squat. Oh well, at least he was doing something…right!!!

Yep…deloads are tough. I didn’t start mine today, like I was supposed to. There is always next week.
Glad the back is doing better.
Good looking dips.

Thanks…and that’s what I keep saying about doing stuff around the house since I’m laid off

Laid off or furloughed until business picks back up? I’m sure this winter isn’t helping…

Off till business picks up. However, I may have something by the time my current employer calls me back, in which case, he may be screwed. Might be another union shop…I work in construction, or might be something all together differant.

In either case, I’d rather be working all the time and make less per hour, but more per year. I’ve taken the necessary steps to keep my head above water and can now do so making less than I was. Sucks, but thems the breaks. I just keep on chuggin along.

Glad to hear that you were able to adjust and get by. I had to do that in '03, but couldn’t adjust enough to get through it.
I’ve always wondered about folks doing more seasonal work. Seems it would be really hard to budget and plan.

Tues, Mar 9, 2010 Cycle 1 Day 3

DE Bench 8x3@175

Standing Mils (alot diff than seated!)
sets of 5 to 150 (using 175 as starting max)

Hammerstrength Rows
Sets of 5 to 155 (using 180 as starting max)

HiRep facepulls and pushdowns
Hammer curls

Hungry as a horse lately, and getting bigger than a house. May actually have to start logging food intake for a while to try and cut an lb or 2. Currently up to 215. Peace.

Training’s looking good. You’re right about front squats, there’s no cheating. if you do them, its ATG. I’ve tried to stop at parallel, and I just can’t make it happen. But that’s why they’re good for us, right?
