Rumblin', Stumblin', Bumblin' to 50

JW - Nice pr on the bench. Looks like you had fun today too.

Wilson, It’s pretty easy to be a “young strong dude”. Being a “middle age or older strong dude” takes some dedication. Let them run a business, support a family, run the kids around, etc., and see how their training goes. You don’t need to feel weak around anyone and you earned the old. Good benching.

Thanks Skip, I guess I didnt have a backup plan. I probably should have been in the power rack. I guess its was a WTF deal, if I didnt make it, then I’d figure something out sooner or later.
Jack I did hit the rack on the 3rd rep. That unnerved me a little bit.

Slept in today. the daughter went to her first dance, so we were late going to bed, after getting all the details. I found out a couple of things today. a lot of young, strong cats train mid-day on Sunday. I felt old AND weak. Also for some odd reason I feel I get a more intense workout training on an empty stomach. I cooked breakfast for the crowd this morning. I had Greek yogurt with dried fruit and nuts mixed in, as well as 6 slices of bacon. who knows?

I did try some different things today. Regardless of the lack of intensity I had fun.

JW’s Sunday thought, given we have to meet with bank consultants next week: Consulting, If you are not part of the solution, there is money to be made prolonging the problem[/quote]

Lol…I like that.
The krocs keep getting better and better. Looking good!

Great training. I want to try the Haney shruggs. They look interesting.

Hel hit on the head. These young guys have all the time in the world to train and goof off. I remember those days (kind of). Much harder to make gains when you have real responsibilities.

Great benchin’, JW. Harry and Steve hit the nail on the head.

Dateline Tuesday, 4:21 am Bastardly bench day

Bench press: barx20, 135x12, 170x10, 210x8, 240x6, 270x3, 270x1, 210x8
Incline bench press: 2x155x12
Pec Dec: 2x150x12, super set with push ups: 8, 5
Triceps ext with v handle: 2x140x15
Dips: BWx6, BWx1

I wasn’t all together happy with training today. I almost bagged it, My young’un was up spewing the contents of her gut at 1:20 am. I thought twice about not going then I drug myself in the gym. The lost sleep told the tale on the 270 set. I just didn’t have anything in the tank for that set. Same with the dips. I just don’t have the stamina for them. Looks like I have something to work for again! I think I’m going to move into the next phase of this program in spite of myself.

Looks like we are on the fringe of getting more winter weather this week. I have not liked winter since my days in college in Boone. that sapped all the joy of cold weather out of me. I need spring. To quote the famed philosopher James Buffett, “I wanna go where its WARM!”

JW’s Morning political commentary: For every action, there is an equal and opposite government program.

Way to work through it JW…I give you credit for banging it out on short rest! And I agree, winter is becoming a drag…its just been cold here so I really shouldn’t complain, but at 4:30am 15 degrees feels like -15…and then my warm bed starts calling!

Nice work. It’s habit until you don’t wanna…then it is dedication.
Hell, just lifting at O dark thirty impresses the heck out of me…but to do it when you are tired!?

Thanks Skip and OG. It’s not all that tough training like that. With my insomina I was half ways up anyway. OG it was 26 here this morning. I dealt with major shrinkage while scraping th frost from my windshield.

Good looking kroc rows, even though you didnt want to go, didnt you feel better after you went. I usually do, even if the workout sucked

Dateline Friday, 4:20 am Desperately seeking a bastardly leg day

Box squats: 135x10, 4x185x6
DB jump squats: 4x20x6
Eliptical machine: 14 minutes

More squats today. I added in some jump squats for giggles and grins. I like them, even if I am using a weanie DB.I think I’m going to work in some split squats as well. Who knows.

I had an unintended 2 day deload with my daughter being sick, no heat in the house, and my alarm not working. FINALLY the youngun is well. the house is warm, and the alarm clock is working. Just in time for more freaking snow! DAMN I hate winter!!

JW’s morning thought: If you suveyed a hundred typical Americans that are my age, I bet you’d find that only two of them could tell you their blood types, but every last one of them would know the theme song from the ‘Beverly Hillbillies’.

JW- How do like Box squats? I have never tried jump squats…how are your knees?

The box squats really help me get the depth right. I kind of like the jump squats. I like explosive movements. It harkens back to the days when I could oly lift.

Box squats are great. I like them to double check that I’m getting my weight back enough and hitting depth. I do a touch and go. Nice workout and glad to hear your house is back on the grid. Sucks when you lose heat.

Good work, JW, jump squats are fun and you really feel them later. I couldn’t tell you my blood type, but I would like to tell you a story 'bout a man named jed, a poor mountaineer who barely kept his family fed. . .

Nice work. I am liking the box squats as well, even if they do make my flexors hurt.

And as to your quote. I would be 1 of the 98. Already plan to get my blood typed at my next labs.

Dateline Saturday 4:24 am. Bastardly Bench day…with snow

Bench press: barx20, 135x12, 170x10, 215x8, 250x5, 280x2, 280x1, 300xmiss, 300x1, 300x1, 250x5
Incline bd press: 2x60x15
Pec deck: 2x150x12 super set with push ups: 10, 8
Rev grip bench in the Smith: 185x10, 205x8, 225x6
OH triceps ext with rope: 2x140x12 super set with triceps push down: 140x12, 140x9
Dips: BWx5
Elliptical machine: 11 mins.

I think I probably should have done my last weeks progression for another few weeks. I felt I had bit off more than I could chew when all I could muster was 280x2. My target was 280x3. I missed the first 300 single. I was able to come back and get the 2 300 singles. Finished with the drop set of 250x5. I think I will be on this progression for a few weeks. When I’m done the program said my bench should be about 3 bucks and a quarter. It was nice to get the 300s I’m glad my 300 before Christmas was no fluke. By the time the dips came along I was fried.

We had about 3 more inches of snow over night. I don’t think I can remember a time in my life we have gotten inches of snow within the same week. That just doesn’t happen in eastern NC. I thought I left snowy winters behind when I lived in Boone.Weather-wise we can’t decide if we live in Astoria or West Virginia. I’m ready for spring!

JW’s snowy Saturday thought: A lot of people like snow. I find it to be an unnecessary freezing of water.

300 is your bitch. Slap her ass.

Nice work buddy. Your 300 club sticker is in the mail.
