Video is a great, and extremely frustrating, tool. You’ll be better for it. Be watchful, though. Some cameras lie! ![]()
Hope work goes well…

That 1st video was deceiving. Looks like you had 4 plates on each side of the bar. I was about to question your math skills ![]()

Oh my math skills lack severely. I can’t add up 4 plates, much less lift that many.
You are good for 300 with a good arch on bench.
I had a buddy who was squatting in the 500’s, until he trained with someone and they told him he was only going halfway down. He had to dump about 200 lbs off the bar to complete a full rep. The camera idea was a good one. Squats are like sex: It’s easy to think you’re doing a great job until you have it with another person. Keep filming - not so we can laugh and point - but so that you can tell when you’re hitting depth and translate that into physical feedback of what IS depth. And remember - nobody our age squats - so even a 245 half squat is more than what 99.whatever of folks do in the gym.
Keep working the zercher’s and the squat will blow up, I betcha.

Thanks DCA. I plan to keep working on them damn skwats… I like doing the zerchers. That is really something that folks dont do 'tound here.
Could be wrong but you may be able to open your legs a little more and point the toes out a little more. No technical expert.

Thanks, Harry. I’m going to give that a try Thursday
Bastardly quick chest day: Dateline Tuesday 4:08 am
Bench press: Barx20, 135x10, 200x8, 230x6, 250x3, 280x1, 300xmiss, 300x1 (film at 11), 250x3
Incline DB press: 3x70x8
Pec deck supersetted with push ups: 2x135x12, 12 push ups.
OH triceps with rope: 3x120x10
Joyous ride home: 18 miles
I guess I couldn’t leave well enough alone. I had to try for 300. I slept like crap, had a shitty day at work and I needed to accomplish something. Y’all swole my head up so I woke up and said “Self, if 280 goes up easy you are going to try 300” WWEELL 280 went up easy. 300 the first pass… I crawled out from under it. I’m sure glad self said, “Wilson, you better set up in the power rack. I don’t think that little 5’ tall marathon lady can pick 300 up off your chest” Self was right. Wilson got pissed, and promptly (well as prompt as you can when you have to unload and re load the bar) tried again. I guess I didn’t want to unload a second time from the safety bars. I got it up… Ugly as hell but I got it up. I guess 300 from 6 weeks ago was no fluke.
Oh, I did some urban, unlicensed deer hunting this morning. I got me a big doe on the way to the gym. no damage to the truck, but its the second one I have put in the Baptist parsonage front yard.
JW’s morning observance: Bad decisions make good stories
I guess I’m an attention whore, here is the miss:
Guess I don’t mind showing my fuck ups
Here is the one I got:
nice work Wilson!
Good deal! Congrats!
Nope…no fluke. Weight never thought about stopping. More to come!
Wow, congrats on the big bench. It is even more impressive that it went up after a fail. Usually when I try that, I just get pinned even faster than the first time. Great work.
Oh yeah, you got that. Look damned good. Getting to another century mark is always sweet.Did your right shoulder roll off the bench or come untucked? I’ve got a habit of doing both.
Skip, the weight damn sure came close to stopping!
Jack, as I said, I didnt want to unload that damn bar again to get it in the hooks to finish the last set I had due.
Harry, I honesty can’t say if my shoulder rolled or came untucked. Honestly I think both happened.Keeping tucked really requires a unch of concentration for me. I’m short on that at times…
Most excellent bench, Wilson.
Bastardly back day. Dateline Wednesday 4:10 am
Snatch grip high pulls: 135x5, 3x185x5
Kroc rows: 3x90x10
Hammer low rows: 3x95x10
Lat pull downs with D grip bar: 3x136x10, with wide bar: 3x135x6
Hise shrug: 3x300x20
Elliptical machine: 12 minutes
My left hand grip is weak, same story different day. Just working on the rows and pulling to help with that ‘issue’. Did some different grips on the pull downs. Kind of a boring day this morning!
More rain here. Its going to play hell with our raw materials. Banks are being rabid dogs, whats new… I’m about glad this year draws to close. Its been a bitch the last few months. Honestly I’m not looking forward to next year. I think its going to be long and hard. As I was doing my rows I was trying to think about fall back careers. Shit, I have worked all my life for my family. the only marketable skill I have other than forest products is concrete finishing. Thats pretty damn unsettling for a 48 year old white male.
Going to squat tomorrow. I’m going to have to work hard on depth.
JW’s Morning thought: Whenever someone says “I’m not book smart, but I’m street smart”, all I can say is “I’m not real smart, but I’m imaginary smart”.
JW- grip cant be that horrible if you are pulling 90 for 10 on rows for 3 sets…but I feel your pain…definitely a weak link for the Goat as well,( one of many weak links I might add). Workout looks solid to me, bro…

It makes a lot of sense that smartness is represented by a complex number. I know a lot of people who’s projection on the real smart axis is pert near zero, but the imaginary smart axis practically isn’t long enough (and it goes to infinity) to hold their projection. Of course, being as it’s a plane, it is possible to have negative smartness as well…
