I worked the crap out of myself, almost literally. Although my wife swears I’m so full of crap it isn’t possible. My tongue was wagging after the complexes. I didn’t want to run the interval. However I can see the effects of not running them in my weight control efforts.
After my yesterday’s “No Summer” bitch; it was a balmy 80 degrees and 94% humidity this morning at 6:30 AM. It’s good to have my gills back in working order…
JW’s celebration of humidity question: After eating, do amphibians need to wait an hour before getting OUT of the water?

Swine flu, of course.
Good benching you’re going over 300 without the boards real soon. Love the overhead tricep ext myself.
Ba-dum-pum!
Can’t do any of that extension stuff anymore. Feels like the tendons are going to come right the heck off my elbows.
I have a similar problem with my left elbow on OH tricep ext. and db skullcrushers.
Really nice pressin’ j-willy. That BP is really on the move!
Thanks for the words of encouragement. I’m excited about the forward movement. Hopefully I’ll be stronger before 50 than I was at 22. About those extensions, they hurt me across the front of my delt and on my elbow at my forearm. Funny how that works.

The way you’re working out, I have no doubt you will get there. With respect to that, what is your goal weight?

I’d like to be somewhere between 200 to 210. Hopefully I’ll get there sooner or later.
I need to start shaving a few pounds. I have put on 20-25 lbs. since I started lifting heavier. Some of it is muscle, but my belt says definitely not all of it. I am just trying to find that medium where my strength gains don’t stop, but the waistline decreases.
Rubber band dislocates: 15 reps
YTWL 8 lbs
Power cleans: 115x5, 135x5, 185x1, 3x185xmiss
Reverse grip bent row: 135x8, 185x8, 205x6
Lat pull downs: 3x140x8
Barbell shrugs: 5x250x8
Rear Delt cable pull: 3x 25x 12
I’m not generating enough bar speed to get the 185 clean. In my mind its telling me I’m more likely to be doing a reverse curl than a true blue power clean. Shrugs made my traps hurt. It’s a nice feeling! I tried the cable pulls for a bit more work on the rear delts.
Thursday morning workout:
Squats in the smith: 115x20, 135x12, 185x8, 3x225x6
Floor wipers: 3x10
Decline leg raises: sets of 15, 20, and 14
Cable crunches: 3x40x15
Felt like a rep day for the squats. The broken record is playing, I hate the smith, cardio sucks… WTF you have to dance with the one what brung ya. I added the crunches for a while. Something to do more or less…
The daughter had her ears pierced again. It’s her 4th attempt. All the other times she let them grow back. Next week come the braces, 6th grade, and all of the middle school girl drama that is about to unfold. I’ll be spending LOTS of time in the gym i believe… Of course I may have to find a new place to lay my head, since I have to go back to China in September…
JW’s morning question: Does the Alphabet song and Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star have the same tune? … Why did you just try singing the two songs above?
Keep tryin on the power cleans JW. They’re as much a matter of form as of strength. Just an observation/question but are you adding more to your workouts? You seem to be doing a little bit more.

thanks for the advice Hel. I know mine is bad form and poor strenght combined. Yes, I’m working harder, trying to find something that clicks. I have been wandering aimlessly and now I’m trying to find some direction.
Typical conditioning day. Nothing to report, really. I managed another complex set today, which was an accomplishment. Trying to buckle down on the diet side… keeping the good fats up and the fast digesting carbs low. Hopefully I’ll see some results.
I had the daughter at work yesterday. She had a blast. Of course she answered the phone and lost calls, colored pictures on the invoices, played on facebook, made copies of her hands, played with the mill cats, and stomped in mud puddles. We both were in trouble with her Mom at quitting time… some little thing about dirty school clothes… For the first time in 11 years she has fallen asleep when I drove her back home… A good day to say the least!
JW’s question of the day: Why isn’t the number 11 pronounced onety one?

That sounds like a good day, j-willy. My boss would have a conniption. Did you join in the puddle stomping?

That’s the good thing about being the boss, or the big boss’s son… Oh hell yes!!! I joined in the puddle stomping. I’m really a 48 year old kid. I like getting dirty on my own terms!

have you thought of High pulls- easier mechanics all the bang and fun of a power clean.

They will make your traps hurt. Experience speaking hear. I can’t shrug my shoulders without wincing right now.
Yep, high pulls make more sense… Gonna do that next week. That’s why I hang out here, I’m hoping all this knowledge and perspective will take root somewhere in me!
Tbar Rows: 4x135x8
Lat pull downs: 4x130x8
Face pulls: 4x45x12
Upside down push up thingys in the Smith: 4xBWx6 (wide grip)
Chest supported row: 4x155x8
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes
Just an average mack workout. Probably need to throw some deads in for good measure. I’ll contemplate that for next Saturday.
The local college wooden bat league team fell from the playoffs yesterday. The next door neighbor’s player left to head back to Birmingham as fast as he could. The kid did well. It was a rehab stint for him. He was second in the league for homers and batting average. I think he was ready to leave, he got dumped by his girl friend, pick up a DUI at the beach, and wrecked his truck. I don’t 'spect he will EVER want to set foot in coastal NC again! He is a good kid, having a summer to remember AND forget!
JW’s Daily Quip: If carrots are so good for the eyes, how come I see so many dead rabbits on the highway?
I like the weekend workouts. Less stress to get done in a hurry. I remember being young and crazy(dumb) like your neighbors kid. All full of testosterone not knowing what to do with it.
