Perhaps, you should purchase a dictionary and look up the word “ironic.” The response indicates that there is no incongruity in the idea being expressed. In fact, this point of view is so common that the reaction itself is parroted without thought. Hence, it is not ironic.
You, however, seem to be confused as to the referent. The subject is the imposition of pride in the armed forces. The methods suggested, while meant as a joke, would promote vigilantism and thuggery, not tyranny, if actually acted upon. Additionally, the imposition of pride in the armed forces does not fight for democracy or freedom (if that could even make sense.)
