My friend, the epitome of rugby and all that is good, is the legend that is Jonny Wilkinson…
As a proud Englishman (I only live in Wales) obviously I have a soft spot for Jonny and I won’t argue with you, but bear in mind his best years came while England were ranked in the top 3 in the world. He had a pretty decent supporting cast. Parisse takes the field each time knowing his team are going to be hammered by 30 odd points and still chases down everything, tackles his heart out and never gives up. He can also kick and has better handling skills than most backs (England ones anyway). That to me is the mark of a legend. The quality of the team you play on can often make you look better than you are.
Put Dan Carter on behind a shaky scrum going backwards with England’s centres outside him and I bet you he wouldn’t look half as good.

Well said. But I think hes much more talented than Spencer. Spencer belonged in a circus, and had no speed to back up his eye for a gap.

No speed? WTF?
Maybe you should take a little look at this

i only really remember spencer when he was at northampton, and he was a complete nugget of a player. His speed is something that never stood out to me. He is not in coopers league when it comes to speed.

Poor fragile little Jonny…
OOOOH! dont even go there! Man is a rugby legend, not just an english legend and you know it my kiwi friend!
Of course…of course he is a legend. He until recently held the top points scorer record…can’t fuck with that.
He is…you know…just a little bit…soft.
How is he soft?! i agree he gets injured, but i think that was just over training and his body just couldnt keep up with the hits he put in, week in week out. training, playing and mental strength in all aspects he is just a machine!

But if Jonny was playing for a team like italy, you bett your bottom dollar he would be as dedicated if not more. He’s like that when england are 30+ points up. Remember the last 6 nations, we were destroying italy and he put in that try saving tackle near the end of the game.
There is noone as commited to the cause as (soon to be) Sir Jonny!

micks will be lucky to make it out of their group… england will over achieve, as always… new zealand will bottle it, as always… france will make it to the semi’s… australia will win it… Wales have a chance of not being totally fucking humiliated by the SH teams if they stop being pussies
Fair enough.
All I can say is that when he was in his prime he was keeping pace with Doug howlett.
If you now go on to claim that Dougie was also slow you will lose all credibility in this thread.
Apparently old Gavie doesn’t respect Jonny’s legend status.
Gavin Henson ‘taunted Jonny Wilkinson and clashed with Matt Henjak’
The nightclub incident which led to Gavin Henson’s suspension by Toulon was allegedly sparked by the Welshman’s criticism of team-mate Jonny Wilkinson, according to reports in the French press.
Gavin: “hey Jonny your a bit of a soft cock aren’t you?” Matt Henjak: “I am going to put my fist through your head”

Apparently the straw that broke the camels back when he was at Saracens, was when they lined the team up in training and got him to go down the line and name his team mates, and he managed about two of their names!
Every time I hear something about Henson, it makes me hate him just that little bit more.

Dougie still shows that pace every week for Munster! Whilst i’m glad he came over to Munster, I always thought he could have played for the ABs a it longer.

I know howlett is a speedster! But did spencer really ever keep up with him? I find that hard to believe…

O.K I give up…I even provided video evidence (which you probably didn’t watch) 2.12 and 2.40 that is him both times screaming along towards the line with everyone else trying to catch up.

Does he still do a little bit of late night drunken panel beating?

While we’re on the subject of people who should have had more games for the ABs. If I remember right he only missed the 2003 WC because of some dispute involving a coach and his wife or something. Definitely had a few more years in him.
Cullen, along with Blanco, has to be one of the greatest fullbacks of the modern era.
+1 On Parisse. True legend. If Italy had two more guys half as good as him, they might be a force to be reckoned with (however they did beat France in the 6 nations which is more than some other teams :P)
As an interlude, here is a picture of his wife, who is a former Miss France

Well this weekend will start to get interesting. Should be two close to full strength teams playing in the Tri nations, and the norther hemisphere friendly matches begin…
