RT_Nomad, How Do You Train?

I grew up in Jacksonville also. Trained with Rufus at his home gym before he started the Body Shoppe. This was 1971.It was Rufus that took me to DeLand.

Did you ever train at the Body Shoppe?

My father died of cancer in 71 so we moved to central Fla. Came back later to Jax to visit friends and trained twice at the Body Shoppe. Think that was 1973. I was the kid that was all lats.

Hello RT. A couple of questions about how you bulked after a contest, please.

Did you ever have sugary cereal as a post-workout meal? Thoughts on a trainee wanting to eat that?

Did you ever have a binge day or a cheat meal?

If I were to guess the answer to both of those is NO. You simply ate more of the food you ate while cutting.

Thank you.

I did have cheat days (or meal once a week), but that was only when dieting for a contest. I needed to get my body out of the “starving” mode (amp my metabolism).

The first week after a contest I might eat all the things I craved during the diet (I might even be writing a list), but after that week I returned to eating clean foods, but at a higher quantity.

That isn’t one of my cravings, but considering that your muscle glycogen is low, maybe most of the sugar will be used to replenish your muscles and not be stored as fat. Just don’t over do it. And also know the most important thing to do is “feed” your muscles.

This really is a great thread.

Are you still experimenting with the Surge workout protocol and Surge workout fuel?

Yes.
I added a strength component to the first block of each workout and then begin the Pump phase after 60 second rest.
Example: on the first exercise I would work up to about my limit for doing 8 reps, with 90 second rests between sets. If I got to 8 reps, I would add a little weight and do another set just shy of failure.

I do like the Surge Fuel a lot. I actually have gained a very small amount of strength and about 5 pounds.
