i dont think i wanna see it. if roy goes thru with it i think ill skip it. i dont wanna watch him keep destroyin himself. id rather remember him as the roy of the past not some washed up heavybag
Man. I don’t mean to take anything away from Green but that was just sad. Jones is [along with Tyson] my all-time favorite fighter. He hasn’t been that fighter since he fought Ruiz. He may or may not be tarnishing his legacy with these recent performances, I can’t say. I can say that if he doesn’t hang 'em up he’s gonna get himself really hurt. There’s a reason boxers don’t have an old-timers league.
Roy should not fight Hopkins. He has lost so much quickest it is scary. I felt embarassed for him after watching that last fight.
Good call on the old timers league. Hopefully Holyfield will quit too.
That’s exactly it. His hand speed is still top notch but his foot speed has been cut in half, maybe more. It’s gotta be hard to go from Superman to Clark Kent and not be able to get back in your cape, ya know? I imagine someone with that ego wouldn’t be able to accept that.

Well, Aussie Davo will be happy haha.
Mixed emotions haha. Ecstatic for green, because now Mundine will be running scared, but sad for Jones as he is a legend to me and it’s sad to him fall like this. I’ll be the first to admit it, while Danny Green has improved leaps and bounds since he fought Mundine, but he should’ve been nowhere NEAR the level of RJJ.
Ah well I still have hope for RJJ, however he’d have to go through a drastic change in style to survive his next fights. I don’t think he can rely on his baiting with low hands
and counter-punching any longer, he just doesn’t have the reaction time anymore.

I haven’t watched a RJJ fights in a few years because I want to remember how great he was. I don’t know why I watched that video.
But the first thing I noticed was that he still keeps his feet wide and his left hand low as if he still believes he has that amazing reaction time that set him apart.
Guess that’s why he stll fights.

Aussie Dave brought that up as well. I knew he got ko’d before watching the vid but thought it was gonna be by swingin’ that left by his waist and getting caught by a straight or overhand right. I know I’ve already said this but I REALLY wish he’d hang 'em up. That was just brutal.

He hasn’t accepted it, that’s why he hasn’t aged gracefully. He could easily still be a top fighter, but Roy has such a monstrous ego he thinks he’s still prime time RJJ.

Roy spanked Jeff Lacy, whose also tough, dangerous, but nowhere near the skill level of pavlik. Dont get me wrong, Lacy is no slouch, no bum, no pushover, but hes more of a B level opponent now.
Yes, he is a slouch, a bum, a pushover. He was highly touted for about a month… but he’s a C level fighter at best.
Comparing him and Pavlik is crazy… Pavlik is the middleweight champ, and has fought and beaten far better competition. They are worlds apart.
Plus, Hopkins came much closer to beating Calzaghe than Roy did… Roy’s fight should have been stopped numerous times.
…No one compared Pavlik to Lacy. I was just putting info about both fighters last fight, which is something you do when talking about fighters meeting.
Yeah Jones lost, pretty badly too, but big deal, the guys a legend, a great champion. Floyd Patterson Didnt retire after getting Ko’d in the first by Liston twice, granted Floyd was younger at the time but you can still bounce back after bad losses if you have the heart and ability both of which i believe roy still has. His loss won’t prevent him from fighting Bhop, Bernard even said he still plans on fighting him. Its been said a million times…Styles make fights and just cuz Danny Green Put Roy out early certainly doesnt mean Hopkins can or will. My money is still on Jones…1st round TKO or not
Geez even Roy’s fans can’t accept he sucks now. The speed difference from his early fights compared to now is ridiculous. He’s a slow fighter trying to fight fast which doesn’t end well as we just saw.

Danny Green is a NOBODY. A NOBODY. He’s not in contention for a belt, Bad Chad Dawson or other top dogs at the weight do not even pay attention to him. He’s in the same ranks as Tarver, the guys on their way out.
Roy’s loss proves that not only can he not compete at the top levels anymore, he can’t compete at the B level either.
What more is to be done? Watch him get knocked out over and over, and see him end up a slobbering retard because all he does is get knocked unconsious? Roy already had his “Bounce back” after losing to Tarver and Johnson, and fought bums until Calslappy killed him.
Then he started fighting bums again, and looked better. Obviously. Now, he fought a guy who isn’t a bum (but still isn’t above a B level fighter), and got knocked out in the FIRST FUCKIN ROUND.
I love him. Believe me, he’s one of my favorites, and I’ve said over and over that I would put him against any fighter ever and put my money on him. But the hand speed is gone, his legs can’t move, and its FAR too late for him to change his style.
He’s done. Completely, utterly, done. I’m not watching another one of his fights, because he doesn’t have a chance at winning.
well i just saw this thread. i wrote one after i went and saw BHOP and RJJ’s fights in philly. Let me say that i was not really interested in these two fighting each other. 2 old vets trying to make a payday. I want to see relevant fights. Now that being said Bernard is a hometown boy for me and i’ve been a huge fan for a long time. What makes him great at the age of 44 is that he’s excepted what his body can and cannot do and has adjusted his fighting style to compensate. I’ve also been a fan of Roy for ever and in his prime he was the most dominant fighter out there. Unfortunally his speed has left him and he has not adjusted. I knew there was trouble after his poor showing against Lacy and getting knocked down by Calzaghe is also pretty sad considering he throws cherries.
These were supposed to be tune up fights! Bernard handled his very well and looked fresh all the way to the the bell at the end of the 12th. Roy Roy Roy please just hang it up.Greens a Tomato can and he caught you with a straight right in the first. I dont believe Roy’s body can handle fighting anymore. Sure he looks in shape standing there but being a fighter is just as much throwing as its taking a beating. If your one of these people thats never been in the ring let me tell you IT TAKE A SPECIAL TYPE OF PERSON TO STAND THERE AND EXCHANGE PUNCHES WITHOUT TURNING YOUR BACK OR RUNNING AWAY! Your body will let you know right away and it doesnt seem Roy is paying attention to his!
