I was wondering what other football fans think of this penalty.
I personally hate it. I think it is a necessary rule to have on the books but the way some refs call it on every little hit is unbelievable.
I just got done watching the Giants v. Detriot game and there was one terrible roughing the passer call. The guy had his head down and wraped up the QBs legs. The Refs said he intentionally hit the legs of the quarterback. Well thats a new one, I understand the helmet to helmet call but cmon the guy could not see the QB throw the ball and he hit him half a second after the ball was thrown. It was a BS call. Now I hate Tony Saragusa but he was commenting on the game and said the same thing as me, terrible call. Personally I love the defensive side of the game and my favorite thing to see is a QB getting hit.
My favorite thing to see is someone knocking the shit out of a receiver as he’s attempting a hell of a catch. I love watching the other team’s fans damn near cry.
I agree, I saw that game and think it was a shitty call, but oh well. You can’t change overprotective refs.

Bad call but good rule. QB’s can get hurt pretty easily and who the hell wants to watch 3rd string QB’s?

Yea cuz QBs are pussies. The League needs to sit down with these refs and say ok this is a roughing the passer and this isnt. That call could have easily lost the game for the NY Giants.

Because they cannot protect themselves when they are throwing the ball.
It was a close call, but a wrong call IMO. It’s a good rule, but the human factor in reffing always means sometimes that stuff happens. If the rule didn’t exist then I can’t imagine the bitch fest you would be having after Eli Manning got his sternum pressed through his spine into the field.
What a coincidence. Is anyone watching the Washington vs. Dallas game? Same exact thing just happened, same comment made, only the sack by Damarcus Ware involved grabbing the back of the QB’s head (lightly).

Yea another bad call.
Like I said its a necessary rule if it wasnt Defensive Ends all over the league would be paralyzing quarterbacks but the way the reffs call is not a personal factor or the human factor its just bad reffing.

I saw that play and I agree it was a bad call, I also agree refs are way overprotective. But QBs are pussies? Cmon man…They snap the ball and are looking downfield while some motherfucker thats 6’4 270lbs that runs a 4.6 40 is looking to END him…oh wait make that more than one big ass motherfckr. They also get up time after time from getting smoked. And dont forget the success of a team 9/10 times usually resides with an efficient qb who LEADS his team to victory. No wonder why they get so much attention and props…All the pressure is on them to win, All eyes are on them. In football you have to be a sick physical specimen, but even the most athletic player cant be a QB if he isnt mentally tough. Players able to handle all that pressure and still succeed are some bad ass motherfuckers, if you ask me.

QBs arn’t pussies, I was jk, I played defensive end and I just love to hit them.
9/10 QBs get too much credit for victories they suposedly “lead their team to” and 9/10 they get too much blame for a loss. Its just the way it is, I guess it all evens.

9/10 times, a team won the game because their linemen controlled the line of scrimmage on both sides of the ball and then watched quietly as fans and media orgasm as they fawn over the QB’s and WR’s.
Linemen win games. Linemen win championships. Skill players get the adulation.
Quarterbacks are barely better than kickers and punters which are barely better than band members. I have no use for them. Direct snap it to the fullback every time.

A fucking men. If anyone watched the Ohio State-Michigan game, it was a classic example of this. Both teams skill positions played like shit, but Ohio State’s line on both sides of the ball dominated the trenches. Chris Wells just had to stutter step until the hole opened and coast up the field.
As an ex lineman I always watch the line of scrimmage every play, I love the battles that go on there.

Shit, no one even uses the full back anymore it seems.

Its the sad truth. Look at the pats success, look at their Offensive line. Making Moss and Brady look amazing.

Wasn’t it just last year? Or two years ago? Who was it on the Giants, Umenyora or Kiwenuka? I can’t remember… One week he’s called for a 15 yard penalty for roughing the passer (didn’t it cost them that game?). The next week he holds him and lets him go, the ref never blows the whistle and the QB throws a pass that I think cost them that game, too.
Two horrible, horrible plays that really highlighted how subjective refereeing is in the NFL.
