Ronda's Log

My workouts are all screwed up this week, between finals and ice storms getting to the gym is proving difficult somedays.
Because I ended up doing my Thursday workout of Friday and was too busy Saturday to do my Friday work out… yes blahblahblah I know. I ended up doing a mini work out today after spinning.

SLDL 3x8x140

Goblet Squats 3x8x55 (not fun after an hour of spinning)

Seated Tricep Dip 3x8x90 (i’m using this machine for the next 2 weeks until I can meet with my trainer and get something new going that won’t bother my shoulder)

Then at this point my blood sugar took a downward turn and I ended up sitting on the floor drinking orange juice. But everything was ok, this is just one of those things that happens sometimes.

Not sure what sort of powerball you have found but I’ve had great results with these …

Ultra low impact (I’m prone to RSI from huge amounts of typing so that’s important) and a real good grip/forearm strength workout.

(just to add, I have nothing to do with the company at all)

GLOW IN THE DARK!!!

I have never seen anything like that before, I think what I was using was more of a stress ball. I’ll look into it, thanks for the tip

Great job on the DLs.

I don’t use gloves or straps when dling (not allowed in competition) and have never had problems with my wrist (while dling).

Maybe do some forearm and wrist work. Also, try using wrist wraps for the heavier weights.

Thanks!

I’m not sure my wrist problem has to with the Dling but I think it may aggravate it, not that I am going stop DLing or anything
It bothers me mainly when doing any kind of curl work. I am going to lay off that for a week and see if the inflammation subsides.

I injured my wrist doing cleans. It was very painful to curl for about 6 weeks. The wrist wraps really helped. I still use them for the heavy sets because my right wrist still bothers me.

The gloves I use have wrist wraps with them plus I use a cushioned band around my wrist under the gloves to keep me from bruising with the straps I use for DLing, which was a problem for a while. I use the gloves/wraps while doing curls but no matter how tight I make them they it still hurts. It may be time for new gloves though, peraps mine are just old.

  1. Barbell Bench Press 3x12x65

  2. One Arm DB Rows 3x5x40, 2x5x45

  3. Hammer Strength Iso Row 2x8x45, 1x8x50

  4. Seated Cable Rows 1x8x80, 2x8x90

My work out today was not so great for the simple fact that I am trying to recover from shoulder and wrist inflamation.

I took my bench weight down to 65lbs and did 3x12, with pinkys on the rings. I did feel and even hear once the lovely cracking and popping of shoulder death, though it does not hurt now so I guess I will live.

I totally cut out the curls for now because of my wrists. I figure that I will give them a break for a week and even since I havn’t put tha much stress on them in a few days I can already see and improvement.

Once again the morning gym eluded me as there was another ice storm…
perhaps tomoorw will be my morning

Ronda - Are you taking anything for the inflammation?

Have you seen this article? http://www.T-Nation.com/readArticle.do?id=1728164 - There’s plenty of good information in there about natural inflammation management.

umm, ibpuprofen… 8 or 10 a day…
Natural? I’ll read up, thanks

Yeah, thanks for the article.

Hope you heal up quick ronda

Today, because of my wrists, my work out was easy.

  1. Squat 5x5x270
  2. Stiff Leg Deadlift 3x8x145
  3. Seated Leg Press 1x8x100, 2x8x115

For SLDL I discovered last week that even with the step I was using to to do them on I was able to hit the ground when I used the 45 lb plates. This week I used 2 25 lb plates on each side. It was a noticable increase to me, esp. in my grip, and I was a little unsure as to if I would be able to do all 3x8 but it turns out I did, so that was good.

The squats I did all with a wider stance and feet pointed out, being sure to keep my knees in the same direction as my feet. This was also noticably more difficult and left me with shaking legs. I did sets like that and 1 set with my feet pointed straight. So easy. I’m gonna stay with the hard stance.

The seated leg press was surpisingly easy today.
Usually I would do curls today but even griping the bar to pick it up hurts so I don’t think I have healed yet.

Ginormous snow storm yesterday morning into the afternoon. There was no way I could get to the gym, I was lucky I made it home. So of course my weekly work out is sort of shifted.

  1. Deadlifts 4x5x175, 1x5x180 yay!

  2. Bent Over Barbell Row 3x8x65

  3. Lat Pull Downs(To front of Chest) 2x8x90, 1x8x80 (my grip strength was dead at this point)

4 Cable Rows 3x8x80 (I bumped these down too just so I could finish them)

So I finally did 180lbs and it really wasn’t so bad. If I had not done the 4x5x170 prior to that I probably could have gone even higher.
I actually though I made a video of the 180lb lift but looking over what I recorded it turns out I got confused and have ended up with a really video of me loading the bar, no video at all of the lift, and then a nice video of me deloading the bar, lol.
I was a little surprised that I felt so drained when I was finished. I had to to knock all the other stuff I usually do after DL down a noch. I am happy though that I pushed myself today.
I may post the video later of the DL - 175lbs if you are interested

Once again me embedding a video does not work, so here is the link…

175lbs

Agreed! Way to go Ronda!

And 1x5x180! I seriously thought that 180 would be around your 1rm - seriously well done. How did they feel?

Good work Ronda!

This means you’re going for 200 next time, right?

Thank you!
I have for the most part not really had to work to do DL I have realized. This time I actually felt it in my posterior chain and could tell the difference between if I was doing it right and exploding through my legs or using my back. That surprised me.

I’m gonna see if over the next 2 weeks I can get up to 1RM of 200lbs.
I may even get a video of it

Actually that is exactly what it means
Thanks !

Aww, thanks!
Though I have to say that this was the first time that I was debating with myself if it was easy or not

You’ve GOT to video you pulling 200+!

If, for no other reason, than I’d actually like to see you looking like you were struggling to lift that much instead of making it look easy!

Congrats on the DL PR. Definitely go for 200lbs.
