those look good to me. (please keep in mind that I am new- but I’ve been watching a hell of a lot of form videos!)
That guy was so totally jealous of your hamstring flexibility. I bet he said don’t go in that position because he can never hope to get in it
They looked good to me. I’m jealous of your hamstring flexibility:)
I have guys giving me advice all the time. It is a real pain in the a$$ and it never stops.

I’m glad to hear from others that they look good. I am curious though as to what he thought I was doing wrong. Generally at the gym the guys never talk to my except for the rare “good morning”. I don’t really mind if they give me advice, probably because they never do it. I figure because the guy that is helping me train is in a different state and never gets to see my workouts, except for what I video for him, that if some mentions something, because they do afterall have a better view of what I am doing then I have, I should at least look into it. Other then that I could care less what they think, as long as I am seeing the results I want.
When I first started SLDL, with my litte 45 lb bar, I never imagined actually having to use a box. When I was finally to touch my nose to my knees with my hands flat on the ground I was very excited, not that anyone really understood why of course
buckeye girl wrote:

I don’t actually mind getting advice from guys in the gym. Its just that I never get good advice from them. Fortunately, they don’t approach me often.
Hehe, it’s all about the hamstring flexability I guess.
The only good piece of advice I got from a guy at the gym was when I first started doing SLDL, he told me not to lock my knees.
I wasn’t going to go to the gym today. I barely slept last night because this head cold keeps causing me to wake up. However there was also no way I could stay in bed anymore, so I got up and went. Somehow, on a day I feel horrible, I actually had some really good results.
I discovered I can increase my bench, if I only do 1x1, or something like that. If I had a spotter I would have kept going up until I couldn’t anymore, I am pretty sure I could have gone to 110 lbs. yay!
I increased a little in my NG DB press and I didn’t see that coming either.
I didn’t stay for cardio or even do all of the One arm DB Rows I should have because my head hurt.
One a side note : Has any one ever taken Zyrtec D? OMG, it sucks all the moisture out of your body! I feel like I might have phyisically wilted a bit. More of the reason I kept waking up last night was b/c I was thirsty. I’m still thirsty from it and I took yesterday. It might have cleared my head for a few hours but I’m not sure it was worth it.
I did experiment with using smaller weights, 2 25lb plates on each side, for my SLDL, which brought my total weight lifted to 145. I actually think that jumping that 10lbs was a little more then I should do right at the moment. I am going back to 135 next time.
Event the guy that told I was SLDL wrong came up to me and said he noticed I was using smaller weights. I explained to him that I made a video and showed it to my trainer and posted it on a forum and no one thought I was doing anthing wrong. Then he said that he thought doing it on the step was wrong and that only “advanced” lifters should do that. I said there was nothing so advanced about having hamstring flexability. He shrugged his shoulders and that was it.
What the hell does “advanced” mean anyways? Do you have to be lifting for a certain amount of time before you get the clearence from the great gods of lifting saying that it is now ok for you to move to the “advanced” lifts? is digruntled
Other then that it was a rather uneventful morning. I’m still feeling the effect of my head cold, though I did sort of sleep last night. I didn’t do any cardio this morning though because the idea of getting out of breath when I can barely breath as it is was not appealing.

Wow! Your squat numbers are awesome. Great job.
If you can perform an exercise with good form then it is not too advance for you. Really tick him off - use a higher step;)

LOL good one Claire.
What a moron anyways, your SLDL is fine. He probley thinks girls shouldn’t deadlift or lift heavy weight.
I hope you use a higher step like Claire suggested.

Well the squatts are done on a machine, I don’t know the exact name of it, but it’s not like I am holding bar bell or anything, so it is not really that impressive
But thank you just the same.
I would use a higher step, I used to actually, except it is a very uncomfortable experience to get up on the step while holding 135lbs. I discovered that I actually had a groin muscle last time I did that. Though I would sort of love to throw it in his face…
This totally should be your goal! You do not want to squat with the machine. It’s not a natural way to do so.
Start doing it without anything. Then practice with dumbells. You’ll get to the barbell eventually.
So… will you ask your trainer about it?

Right now he has me doing goblet squats and lumberjack squats, to working on my positioning. I am going to be able to work with him in person in December and I think that is one of our goals, to perfect my barbell squat. So hopefully I will be able to do it on a regualr basis.
Lat Pull Downs(To front of Chest) 3x8x80
4 Cable Rows 3x8x80
and this was my Friday…
Stiff Leg Deadlifts 3x8x115
Lumberjack Squats Squats 3x8x25
Goblet Squats 3x8x50
Close Grip Bench Press 2x65, 2x75, 2x85
No great increases in any of my lifts, nothing amazing to report.
Although, that guy who questioned my SLDL was watching me very closely doing my regular DL. I think he really wanted to say something but I didn’t really give him the chance.
In other things along the same line, I really want to lose about 45 lbs of fat, but I can’t figure out how. I am currently counting my calories and protien and that kind of stuff and recording my blood sugar levels in relation to all of this. It was reconmended to me to increase my protien intake to 170grams but my endocrinologist did not recomend it, and I tend to go with the person who will deal with my kidneys if they ever start to not work right. But he did say I could increase it to 80-100 grams, so I have been working on doing that.
I know I am gaining muscle, I must be becaise the amount of weight I can lift is increasing. I know muscle weighs more then fat but I still need to lose a good bit of fat and it is not coming off.
I think I need to increase my cardio, do more HIIT, but and this is the worse excuse ever, but I’m exhausted. Between schoola nd studying and gym I just can’t figure out how to find time and energy for a 20-40 min HIIT session 4 days a week after weights.
But I think I may have a plan and I hope I can manage to keep it all together.
I start my hospital rotaions in 2 weeks, this means that I would have to be at the gym when it opens at 4am. My weight work out takes about an hour. I would have to go home right after that to get ready and leave for the hospital. Then in the evening I would have to go back to the gym for my HIIT session. What do you think, does this seem like a feasable plan? Will it benefit me to go about it this way? Advice, anyone?
oh, and here is a video of me doing Goblet squats. I took for my trainer to make sure I had my positioning right and he said it looked great, so I thought I would share it
Girl, you do not look like you have 45 pounds of fat to lose. I know as a diabetic you work closely with your dr- what does he/she say? Do you know your body fat %? I bet a fair amount of your weight is muscle, and you don’t want to go losing any of that
Your goblet squats look good- nice and low! Is your lower back rounding right at the bottom? Mine does that too when I go A2G and I can’t figure out how to keep the slight arch- do you think it’s possible?
Rondastarr, I agree with Jenemmar, you definately don’t look like you have 45lb of fat to lose, in fact after seeing you in the vid (nice squats btw) I can’t believe you’d even want to lose half of that.
This is not really advice about the cardio, more my thoughts, have you thought about just doing 10 mins HIIT and the end of your weights, this way you get some cardio in, without having to go back to the gym. 10 mins can be pretty intense depending on what you choose. I just think getting up to go to the gym at 4am, going to the hospital all day and back to the gym in the evening sounds exhausting! Maybe give it a go though and see how you feel.

Believe it or not I actually do. I recently put on a few pounds, some of which was muscle, but still if I lose 45 lbs that would put me at 135, and that would be in the high end of what I should weigh. Last time my bf was measured it was 28.
I know I carry alot of muscle, I always have. I also know this is really bad but I would gladly give up some of that if I could just be thin. I have no problem putting on muscle after that, I just want to know for sure that it is muscle. At the moment I have great muscle tone, it is just under this really thick layer of fat. I even have abs, just no one can tell. Perhaps if I ever get to the point where I can shed some of this fat I will decide that 45 lbs is too much, but right at the moment, looking at the numbers, it seems like that is the least amount I could say I want to lose.
As far as the Goblet squats are concerned I don’t think my back is rounding. My back actually doesn’t round, I have to make it a point to round, even just to relax and strech it, I carry alot of tension in my back.
I think if you are going to go low though you have to stick your butt out to balence you, and I don’t see how one could round their back while doing that. How long do you go? Are your legs wide enough apart to allow you to spread out your weight?

Lol! I carry my fat well but I think it is very evenly distributed. There is a good layer over everything. If I could just just remove that I would look pretty good, and I can say that because really I would, lol Perhaps when I get to the weight actually coming off I may decide to not lose that whole amount but right now that would put me way at the top of what I should weigh and in a nice low bf range.
Do you really think 10 mins at a time is enough? I think I could squeeze in 10 mins maybe if I do some preparations for my day the night before. Yeah, that schedul I proposed does kinda make me want to cringe, but that is with the idea that I need to do 20-40 mins at a time.
Perhaps if I do HIIT run/walking. I hate running, I fall when I run, but maybe if I kept it to 30-45 secs at a time I could beat the odds of me falling and getting whipped off the tread mill
