Ronda, I just had to stop by and read your log! I am so glad that I did. You have come the longest way and should absolutely be proud of what you’ve accomplished so far. 45 lbs is just fantastic and a lot of hard work. Especially with your diabetes. Your w/o’s look amazing so far and I can totally relate to being pinned under the bar. lol You are not alone.

I didn’t want to skip the deadlifts so stayed with that and just added in the squats. Not ideal but it will have to do.

^What is this??? To me, that’s about as ideal as it gets! lol In all seriousness, great job and it looks like you’re a force to be reckoned with at the gym.
Great log Ronda and glad to hear you had fun dancing with your friends:)
My 24 hour gym changed times, they are now 4am-10pm M-F and 7-6 on weekends. I am so pissed off! We spend more money they anyone in the area to go to a gym, hell I could go to Planet Fitness for $10/mnth, and they go and have a big promotion to have people join and then they go and change the times. I actaully go to the gym at 2am, granted it was just me, but I was there. It was the perfect release for me for all the nervous energy I have during finals. Those fucking bastards, I am so pissed off, I even went and told them how pissed off I was along with other gym members, though the poor pathetic 18 yr old behind the desk, who’s brian is obviously in his biceps, only looked bewhildered and confused. I wish I could get ahold of that new owner… grrr
/rant
In other news…
Today I did bench presses but I still was not able to increase the weight. I even warmed up this time, 10x45, 8x65, 6x85, 3x5x95, but that last set kinda sucked.
Ahh well, maybe next week will be the week

Thanks for stopping by and for your kind words and support. Glad to hear I am not alone in the ‘pinned under the bar’ incident, lol

I would assume 24 hour gym means they are open for 24 hours. From 24 hours to closing at 10pm is a big difference. I would complain too.

Ronda, you seem frustrated about your bench. Welcome to the club. lol
First off, there is not a thing wrong with 3x5x95 at all! Only thing is, you’re probably wearing yourself out with the 3x5 thing. Why not one set of 5x95 and then throw another 5 or 10lbs on the bar? Warm up and volume are great and needed, however too much of either on a day when you’re trying to see how heavy you can lift may be tiring you out.
Nice work nonetheless and believe me, 95lbs is great! Keep up the good work:)

I guess I am just frustrated because I have been stuck at the same bench for a long time and am still struggling w/ it. I usually do 5x5x95, I suppose I could add another 5lbs rigth at the begining, but being that I still struggle w/ the 95 and I don;t have a spotter I tend to not want to add until I am sure I won’t get pinned under the bar
Thank you though for the encouragement!
DB Hammer Curls 3x8x25
plus my 20 mins of uphill walking
I was told, while I was on the treadmill, that my back position on my SLDL was all wrong and that I should use smaller weights, not less weight, just smaller weights, so I wouldn’t have to use a step.
Now first of all I don’t mind being offered advice, after all some of the guys there seem like they have been training for year and I am sure they are getting a better veiw of what I am doing then I can. However I cannot under stand what he is seeing that I could possiblely be doing wrong. I know I an not rounding my back, my posture is extrememly good. I have even taken videos of myself in the past doing SLDL to make sure I am doing it right.
I’m going to do another video on friday though and go over it with my trainer and we will see what is going on.
Other then that everything is pretty much the same.
I had to miss spinning tonight so I could give out the halloween candy to the kids but I did get to the gym earlier and though I was only able to put in 30mins of walking uphill, it was no spinning class, but it will have to do.
Also, I bought some Spike. I get up so early and I go all day long at school. I have wondered if the reason I am having trouble increasing the weights I use at the gym is just because I am tired. So I am going to give this a try.
It’s expensive to try to be healthy and fit…
Sure, give it a try. What have you got to lose. Different things work for different people but I don’t know too many girls that adore the bench and it’s typically our weakest lift. Sometimes you have to fight like crazy to add a lb or 2.
So, who told you that your form is wrong on your SLDL’s? Just curious as to if it was your trainer or just others at the gym. What exactly did they tell you, other than your back. Any suggestions on how to fix it? Everybody likes to be an expert and if they know what they’re doing, they won’t just tell you what’s wrong but they’ll help you try to fix it.
You do spinning classes? No wonder you’re tired. lol Sounds like you have a lot on your plate and hey, you do what you can. I can tell you that you’re doing more than most. You’ve hit some killer goals and it’s just starting. Keep that chin up.
Why don’t you post some of your vid’s here and I’m sure the girls will have some suggestions?

Just an idea.

It was just some guy at the gym who said it. He is a regular, not that I have EVER seen him do any type of DL or anything though. He said that I should use smaller weights, instead of the 45lb plates, just smaller in size plates so I would not have to use a step to keep from hitting the ground. He said I was bending too low (because of the step?) and my back position was wrong. I don’t think my back was rounded at all because I never round my back, I tend to have extremely good posture, so I just can’t tell what he was seeing.
I kinda want to just be like ‘yeah, right, whatever’ but it’s not like I am the expert here about working out so all I can do if he offers a suggestion is to check it out.
I talked to my trainer and I am going to make a video so he can see it. I may post it here just to see what is said, it depends on how it turns out
LOL! between being tired and the bench press I have been of the opinion that I suck! Thank you for your encouraging words though, it really does make me feel better
There is nothing like doing deadlifts at 4am…
Yeah, I’m still trying to see the bright side of that one myself.
Deadlifts 5x5x135
Bent Over Barbell Row 3x8x65
Lat Pull Downs(To front of Chest) 3x8x80
4 Cable Rows 3x8x80
My DL are still doing ok. In the beginning of the set I would think I could really add 5 or 10 lbs on the bar soon, by the last set I was wondering if I shold remove 5 or 10lbs. So needless to say I’ll just stay where I am at for now.
I didn’t do any cardio this morning because I have an early appoinment
The guy was probably just trying to be a know-it-all like Susan said.
Maybe I’m reading this wrong, but he told you to get smaller weights because you were bending over too far?? That doesnt make any sense to me. I thought that using smaller weights or standing on something with normal sized weights did the same thing, increase ROM. I say talk to your trainer, post a clip here, and probably keep on doing what you are doing.
I hate when random people make comments to me in the gym. It makes me feel a little self conscious and I question myself even when I think they are wrong. Now, I try to look as unapprochable as possible and keep to myself
and you DO NOT suck! Everyone has an off day now and again. Don’t stress, you’re doing great. Just keep working hard and it will come.
I know how it feels to be tired and have a million things to do. Maybe its time for a little break. Take a day or two off, get a little extra sleep and see how you feel then.

I think he meant smaller weights so I wouldn’t have to use the step. ALmost everyone does those on a step though. As far as the bending too far part… well I really don’t get it.
Lol! I don’t even have to try, I think I naturally look unapprochable. I must because it would explain alot. I was surprised when he spoke to me, because no one ever does, lol.
I figured out why I have been having such difficult gym experiences lately. I think I am coming down with a cold and it just zapped my energy. I even took Spike this morning and had to get a coffe in on the way to school and then after that I fell asleep mid morning during a break and again at lunch. Either Spike doesn’t work at all, or I must be getting sick, lol!
I wasn’t able to do the Lumberjack squats because they are painting the gym and the ONLY corner in the gym was full of ladders and paint stuff.
There were no particular increases in any of my lifts today though I am also not feeling 100% so hopefully next week something will increase… I hope.
I don’t get it, they look good.
If you use smaller plates you’ll get more of a stretch in the hams using that step, but I can’t see why anyone would say what you are doing is wrong. I guess there are some guys who know everything though, 'specially if they can “help” a girl.
Nice flexibilty!

LOL! yeah “help” a girl.
I watched the videos and couldn’t see it, my trainer watched and couldn’t see it, no one here seems to see anything wrong… So I am going to go on the assumption that the guy had no idea what he was talking about.
Thank you!
