Your right, the target is the anterior delt. But since a military press is a compound move, you will get the benefit of recruiting the lateral delts as well as a host of other muscle groups (pecs, abs, traps, biceps & tris, maybe more…)
Sorry to hear about the clicking and grinding though, that just plain old sucks. I hope you can resolve this, you’ve had your share of injuries. I love how you don’t give up! In the end, you know what’s best for you.

I have had trouble with the military press in the past though perhaps now I may not. I’ll keep you updated on how it goes
Lol! yes I have had quite a few problems lately. If I stopped though because something hurt I would end up doing nothing so I have to find a way around it. Thanks for checking in
So I get up at my normal 3:30am to go to the gym, not so much because I had to be anywhere else but because my body is just used to getting up for the gym at that time. I get there and it isn’t opened shakes fist I called the number to report taht it was not opened and was assured that someone would be sent right away… 45 mins later I went home and back to sleep for a few hours. I went back at 7am.
Barbell Bench Press 1x10x45, 1x5x65, 1x5x85, 5x5x95
Here is my thing with ths exercise, I know that I could press a bit more however, If I do press more I tend to suck at all my other lifts where I press. So I am not sure if higher numbers is better over more actual lifting.
This week off from doing anything before I graduate is kinda weird. I have no schedule at all, no where I need to be, nothing I need to study for. I work much better on a schedule so I will have to find something to do.
The gym today was kinda funny because I am never there at this time during the day. I got to see what someother people are doing. Some of it I have to say was funny others have some really solid routines. I really do have to shake my head at teh guys though that never work their lower body, I just don’t why someone wouldn’t want to be strong everywhere. shrugs maybe it is just me.
SLDL 1x12x45, 1x8x95, 3x8x115, 1x8x125
I changed these from 3x12 to 4x8 just because my lack of grip strength was making me rush through this exercise and not giving the movement the time it deserved and making sure my back wasn’t arching wrong . I think I like the 4x8 better
Barbell curl 1x8x45, 2x8x55
Single leg split squat 3x8x40lb DBs
HS Squat 2x8x95
I have to say I am generally a big fan of HS machines but I don’t think I like this one. Somehow I feel a strain in my lower back and I have no idea why and I also feel like I can’t find the right place for my feet to stand and make the movement
so instead I did these…
Seated Leg Press 5x5x270
I used I different kind of leg press then I used in the past and I was surprised the difference it made. I could deffinently feel this by the last set… either that or I am getting weaker…
Today was apparently partial squat day for alot of gym goers, as for me I did DL
DL 1x5x135, 5x5x185, 1x4x135
goddamn that 185 seemed really toward the end, even to the point of feeling like I was going to black out, idk what that is all about. I do have lovely tiny broken blood vessles all over the insides of my forearms to show for my self though
CG Bench Press 1x10x45, 1x5x65, 5x5x85
Goodmornings 1x12x45, 2x15x65
I’m starting to thing the DL/Goodmorning combination may not work for me, I will see how I fell later.
Goblet Squat 1x12x65, 2x11x65
Meh, I got weak at teh end.
HS Seated Tricep 1x8x70, 2x8x90
This machine is new to me and I can’t tell if I like it but so far so good
HS High Row 3x5x80
because I am doing such low reps on the HS Row machines I should be able to increase the amount of weight I am doing
Incline DB Press 3x12x30
These are getting easier
NG DB Press 3x8x35
Not quite ready to go up yet but I am able to finish all 3x8
This past weekend I graduated from the University Of Hartford’s MT/CLS program. It was a good weekend and all my family was able to attend.
I have had 2 job offers to stay in my area and I have a follow up interview in AL this week. I would really like to move so I am hoping that they make me an offer while I am there. I will be leaving tomorrow for AL and I will keep you updated with my gym progress when I go. Wish me luck!
I am still here in Alabama. I am waiting to hear if I will be offered the job but in the end it was cheaper to extend my ticket then be offered the job and have to fly back. Plus I get to spend more time with my friends
I was able to get to the gym today and got to work out with my friend. Watching him do Doggcrapp training is hilarious.
DL 1x5x135, 5x5x155
I may be leaning forward with my DL a little so in the future I need to keep a closer eye on that and see if that helps me to not hurt my self while DLing.
CG Bench Press 1x10x45, 1x8x65, 3x8x85
Goblet Squats 3x12x60
This was a fairly easy day for the simple fact that I couldn’t find some of the equipment I usually use, being at an umfamiliar gym and all, and I am thinking Goodmornings and DL on the same day are very bad for me so I must change that.
I should know about the job by tomorrow… in theory at least.
I havn’t been able to get to the gym as often as I usually do just because I am at the mercy of those I am staying with. I will be here until Thursday and I was wondering if anyonr could thin of any thing I could do with out weights or machines, just me. I have been doing push ups and attempting different variations of that and body weight squats…easy… though I now that I am typing this I just thought that I should try to hold the squat position for an increased amount of time. I have been walking alot too. Does anyone have any other suggestions?
I am back from Alabama!
Appearently Human Resourses at UAB has a decison making problem and has yet to make up their mind. I am going to stay in CT for at least a year and take a job and then try to move to AL again next year.
I also got a new apartment so I have been rather busy with that but I did make it to the gym today.
Bench press 1x10x45, 1x8x65, 1x6x85, 3x5x95, 4x3x115
I am really going to try to make a run at benching 135. I know I can do it!
T bar Rows 3x8x65
HS low Row 3x5x90
HS High Row 3x8x70
Inclined DB Bench Press 3x12x30
These were strangly hard today
Neutral Grip DB Press 3x8x35
Again also strangly hard…weird
I still don’t have a spotter here but when I was in AL I got to workout with my friend/trainer and he was positive that I could go for 135. I tired while down there and failed but if I can start doing 115 and move up from there I will surely be able to hit 135, though I would perfer a spotter when I give it a try
Somehow lately I have noticed that my upper body it really taking off in terms of strength. Some of this I think has to do with the new HS machines that are at my gym plus all the DB bench presses.
Ahh, though I am exhausted I have to say that it is great being back to the gym regularly.
I didn’t get there until 10:30pm tonight, in the furture I might want to remember that I get tired…
SLDL 1x10x45, 1x12x95, 4x8x145
BB Curl 3x8x50
Seated Leg Press 1x8x180, 1x8x270, 4x5x300
DB Hammer Curls 2x8x25, 1x8x30
I hate these, but I did them
Single Leg Split Squat 3x8x40lb DBs
omg! I was shaking doing these, my last set I thought for sure I would fall down. I survived it though
mom-in-MD wrote:
Do you think the machines help to generate more strength on the bench then?
I was thinking of using them for a bit to go a liiitle bit heavier(I don’t have a spotter either) and then see what happens…
I hear ya about the upper body strength!
Hope you got some sleep, we could all use some of that, lol!
After I typed that about the machines I went back and thought about it. The hammer strength machines have been amazing for my upper back and arms. Some of the machines that I have been using are new to my gym and I can coralate an increase in both my DB and BB bench presses since I have been using them.
What I like to do is a set of a pushing exercise, like BB or DB bench press and then a set of a pull exercise like T-bar rows, HS high row, or HS row. I just go back and forth between the different equipment I am using, needless to say I try to only do this when to gym is not packed full cause that is just annoying for others.
I find this method allows me to not get bored in between sets, to get in and out of the gym more quickly, and I have noticed I have been able to increase my weights more.
Another thing I have just started to do on bench press is to pick a weight 80% or your max and then bench it to failure, which is kinda scary when you don’t have a spotter, but I think that helps too
As I am planning to be away from home all Friday and Saturday (dancing, yay!) so I am working to get all my workouts in before then.
Highlights of tonight included a slightly strange injury considering the weight involved.
HS Lat pull down 3x12x110
I love this machine! I can actually feel it is my lats. I must have been doing the other lat pull down machines wrong.
Upright Row 3x8x50
Cable Rows 4x8x70
Corner BB Press 3x8x25
One Arm DB Rows 2x5x50, 2x5x45
This is where the injury part happened. I wear gloves while in the gym but I do have some small calluses on my fingers, real attractive, huh? Tonight those calluses started to rip off… omg! ouch!
It’s not even like it was a heavy weight so I don’t get it really but that is what happened shrugs
Tonight while I did deadlifts Barbie and Ken were doing hanging stomach crunches right next to me. Plus I saw what had to be a gym newbie attempt to squat. Now we all know that I fail at squats but this guys form was so bad that I couldn’t watch for fear of seeing a major injury occur.
