Should be a good debate this evening in Arizona between the candidates. As well as Rick Santorum has been doing, taking front running status, will be interesting to see how he performs. As I was reading, which Rick shows up tonight? ~
"Tonight?s presidential debate in Mesa, Arizona, is rightly be touted as a crucial moment in the Republican race. Much has changed in the weeks since the GOP candidates were brought together in front of the television cameras. Rick Santorum, whose strong showings in the Florida debates were not thought to signify any real hope of his being the nominee, is now leading in the national polls. Mitt Romney, who was hoping to create an aura of inevitability, is now struggling to stay ahead of Santorum in his home state of Michigan, and Newt Gingrich has sunk to last place in some surveys and must fight the belief he no longer has a ghost of a chance of victory.
But while Santorum will enjoy being in the center of the stage rather, as up until now he has been relegated to the sides, he will also have to cope with being the object of attacks from both Romney and Gingrich in a way that he has never had to deal with in the many debates that have preceded this one. While all the participants, save Ron Paul, have something to prove tonight, the outcome may turn largely on one question: which Rick Santorum shows up in Mesa? Will it be the confident, relaxed and personable Santorum who has done so well in the previous encounters and whose image is as a caring father and clean politician who is not willing to engage in mudslinging? Or will it be the angry culture warrior whose obsessions with gays, contraception and abortion have become the liberal caricature of conservatism in the last week?.."
The following excerpt was taken from a Rick Santorum speech from a few years ago. He might just as well have spit in the faces of the many independent voters that he’d lose should he become the nominee:
“Satan has his sights on the United States of America!”
Satan is attacking the great institutions of America, using those great vices of pride, vanity, and sensuality as the root to attack all of the strong plants that has so deeply rooted in the American tradition.
This is a spiritual war. And the Father of Lies has his sights on what you would think the Father of Lies would have his sights on: a good, decent, powerful, influential country - the United States of America. If you were Satan, who would you attack in this day and age? There is no one else to go after other than the United States and that has been the case now for almost 200 years, once America’s preeminence was sown by our great Founding Fathers."
One can only imagine how many times the Obama people (not to mention the press) will replay this before the general election.
I have no idea of Obama’s spiritual beliefs nor do I care. But I bet he’s praying for Rick Santorum to do well in tonight’s debate.
On the other hand, some in the Santorum camp are pointing to a 2007 interview Romney did with Iowa radio talk show host Jan Mickelson in which Mickelson essentially goaded Romney into discussing, off-air but on-camera, a few details of Mormon beliefs. (“The Church says that Christ appears and splits the Mount of Olives in Jerusalem,” Romney told Mickelson. “That?s what the Church says. And then, over a thousand years of the millennium, that the world is reigned in two places, Jerusalem and Missouri. . . . The law will come from Missouri, and the other will be from Jerusalem.”)
Oh man, handing Obama the win right there. Oh no, Romney’s going to make Missouri the new Washington DC! /Runs willy-nilly in panic!
I don’t think that the Morman views on religion are any more or less strange than the views of any other religion.
I really don’t think that Obama will attack Romney’s religion. This would be a huge turn-off to independent voters.
And if he has to run against Santorum… well then I can see Santorum attacking Obama for not being Christian enough. Again, this is a turn-off to the same independents.
This isn’t about hiding one’s faith, or what MIGHT come out. It’s about preaching your faith from the roof tops and sounding like a right wing nut in the process.
One more lesson in how the game is played…or in Santorum’s case how the game should NOT be played.

I’m sure you see the difference between quoting what your faith may say when asked and preaching that satan is after America.
You do see that distinction do you not?
This is exactly what the Santorum critics have been claiming since day one, his words are coming back to haunt him and prove his opponents correct.

Let’s not forget folks. The next president may appoint 2 more JOTSC. Almost ANY republican and some democrats would be better for that than Obama. These people do not go away in four years and the way its played now THEY make the law. Better think.
