I seriously DOUBT Marciano can beat Ali.

I think he could for the reason that I explain a few posts above. Why don’t you think he could have?

And also, the guys today have more natural talent than the past fighters simply because of bigger pool of fighters to draw from.

Why do you think there is a bigger pool of fighters now?

In fact, during the depression era and many years after that many kids attempted to escape poverty by boxing. Many, many more kids were involved in boxing 50 (or more) years ago. In fact, it was part of the curriculumn of many High Schools!

As a direct counter point, I wonder how many guys would be boxing today if it was not for the popularity of mma?

I do however, admire Marciano’s intensity and being able to dominate the game during his time despite being pretty much the smallest guy. I bet he would be perfect for today’s MMA fights in his weight class.

If Marciano was in his primve today he would be the heavyweight boxing champion of the world.

Nonsense. Marciano fought at about 189 lbs. No way would he be heavyweight champion today, he would be a great cruiserweight though. Also Ali could beat Marciano, although by no means easily, because he had that “it” intangible. Like Jordan in basketball, Ali always rose to the occasion. Not to mention, powerful as Marciano was, he couldn’t possibly match George Foreman’s punching power. Ali took that for over 7 rounds before dispatching Big George in the 8th. Ali is too smart. He would frusterate Marciano with his speed and elusivenss and clinch him up inside with his size advantage. Frazier gave Ali trouble because he came along at the right time. Ali was just coming up the loooong layoff and should’ve taken at least a year to get ready for Smokin’ Joe, but rushed himself. Joe was ready and took advantage. But even Joe Frazier was 20 lbs heavier than “The Rock”. Great fighter was Marciano, a true champion and legend. Ali in a 15 round decision 145-140.

Yup. Most of the guys today are prima-donna pussy’s. Marciano would make them cry like bitches. If you looked up ‘granite chin’, ‘slugger’, ‘power puncher extraordinaire’ and ‘only undefeated heavyweight champion of all time’, you’d see the same man’s picture all 4 times…ROCKY

Gene Tunney also retired as undefeated heavyweight champion of the world.

Wrong there too. Tunney had one loss.
