Why aren’t you going to get lessons? Do you not respect the art enough to learn properly, or you just a lazy ass?
John Bonham never took a lesson in his whole life. I guess he didn’t respect the art of rock drumming. Neither did Ginger Baker. Guess he didn’t respect it either.
Some people can learn without lessons, I learned a couple instruments that way. No one says you need lessons, although you would probably learn faster.
I’ve actually taken lessons before, about 3 years ago, and then I joined the Army and I’m as good as a beginner again. And now I’m broke, lol.
Zeppelin, Ac/dc etc all good reccommendations for getting down that solid 4/4 rock feel.
See if you can nail Bonham’s trick of starting most of his fills a note early ie. on the a of the previous beat or a note late.
I used to drum to old zz-top (anything before eliminator when frank started trying to emulate a drum machine)
to practice my 6/8 timimg and chops in that time signature.
Neil peart for a beginner? are you nuts? Dennis chambers for a beginner to play along to? are you fuckin’ crazy?
Don’t play to the white stripes, that bitch is hopeless.
Metallica’s sad but true sounds basic but actually has a couple of wierd timing bits and accents in funny places that you might struggle with.
I used to play along to alot of old deep purple as well. The fast singles and rudiments around the kit aside,
alot of Ian paice’s beats are extremely funky/bluesy/groovy/rocky and deep in the pocket.
Songs like “never before” “maybe I’m a leo” are good examples.
