Well, here’s your problem: you are disagreeing with someone while still respecting their opinion. This is not how the Internet works. You simply aren’t cool unless you not only disagree with someone, but express pure contempt at their entire thought process and act flabbergasted at the fact that they even have enough brain cells to rub together to generate ANY thought whatsoever - much less one as completely, embarrassingly off the mark as the one they had the temerity to share in your presence.

I’m not a parent and I haven’t lost anyone super close to me like that, so I can’t account to how I’d deal with the grief from that kind of loss. But I tend to give anyone who’s grieving hard enough to put up a memorial or what have you a wide berth.

There used to be a time where people talked to people better than that. That’s what I like about this website, the idea that people are better than just average.

It’s humorous and entertaining banter when you’re being clever - it oftentimes makes discussions more fun to read. But, it’s worth calling out if it comes off as nothing more than mean-spirited.

Agreed that there are a few posters that portion of the site could lose without anyone giving a shit… but, for the most part, those people are recognized for the asswipes they are and aren’t taken seriously outside of their own little clique. Thankfully, though, they rarely venture outside of that forum.
I’d say most of the prominent posters there keep their shots above the belt (or, as much as one can expect during political discourse) for the purpose of good discussion. And no one really argues politics or religion thinking the other side is right, ya know?
Not sure if you guys have this in the states, but if there is a traffic fatality on the road, the city/gov puts up a coffin-shaped boxed that says “fatality”, usually on a lamp post exactly where it happened.
Well when I was a child, I remember in Mexico seeing my father visit one of these little memorials with an iron cross and everything. Well come to find out it was his brothers, my uncles, he was a doctor whose vehicle had crashed off a bridge while in a hurry to aide a dying patient.
That memorial was built, just out of pure compassion for a lost loved one. People have been doing those sort of things for thousands of years.
My question is if the OP could word his opinion in front of my grandmother and father so easily?

Yeah, most of them do. It’s just traditional for many families . Funny how some people say things like oh it’s a distraction, or it could scratch my car. Yet fail to realize, I bet once every year. Most likely there’s a mourning relative or group shedding many tears at that very spot, who are burdened to not just “let it go”, ever.
