Road to Collegiate's

Just a question man… from what I have seen from his logs its an interesting way to train. Just looking for his ideas why use sheiko over other programs.

Besides… there are a lot of over factors into choosing a program besides they jsut won Worlds. That’s kind of like saying I want to bench exactly like Metal Militia. You have to take everything that they do into account. Never mind the fact they juice like lab monkeys…

Well one of the best 165 lbers in the USAPL also trains sheiko – Wade Hooper, how is that for a good reason.

And I would guess the reason he can’t touch is because he’s using 80% in a shirt. Nothing to do with back strength.

Yep, he needs more weight

look guyz… I’m not trying to be an ass about it. It’s more curiosity than anything else. I haven’t seen a lot of people use that training format before. I have grown up training around West Point Powerlifting team, Westside Barbell, and Detroit Barbell. They all use a modified version of Westside besides the actual gym.

Upper back strength has everything to do with benching in a shirt. If he cant pull down 80% in his shirt then he needs some more back strength. I hit a 500 shirted press the last time I put my shirt on and I can still touch 225 to my chest. Its a bitch, but if he aint strong enough to beat the shirt down into the hole then its a problem.

Look at Ryan Kennelly’s training routine or Metal Militia’s, Westside… they all have upper back movements and they use them because its neccisary to beat the shirt down into the hole.

I think that Nator is using a rage or a rage-x… dont remember… but if he is then the stopping power of those shirts are the shit, and its really not all that different if he is using a rebound shirt. They all require a shit ton of pulling down neccisary to generate the power to hit the hole and keep it there for the pause.

I don’t recall saying that you were. I was just pointing out that there are some non-juiced lifters that use sheiko and are successful on it.

As for the shirt and back strength – as he has a meet coming up soon…not so sure he has time to work on what you are suggesting for this one. Nor do I disagree that it could be the issue – but for now, more weight is need to get the weight to touch the chest.

malinda

I know you didnt… but if you read this board a lot, as I am sure that you do, you know how spiteful people are about things. I fully encourage the use of whatever works for him, I am just curious thats all.

As for his bicep pain and what not, looking back on his training logs… he is doing one or two pressing movements every time he gets into the gym, without really doing a consistent pulling or bicep movements his bi’s and elbows would be pretty fucked up. Well… he has something to think about after his meet. Elitefts.com has some great articles about analizing weakpoints and whatnot, maybe we all should take a look at them one day.

I think the above is a good point. I tend to notice alot of elbow pain when I neglect direct bicep work.

A few sets of hammer curls one day and some barbell curls on another is usually enough for me to stay healthy with anyway.

Well… instead of waiting for the pain to come man… wouldnt it be a better long term solution to intergrate it into yalls program? I mean back/bi work will help to improve every lift and cut down on tendinitis pain.

And I agree prevention is the best way. But I also know the mind set going into a meet – damn the pain I am going to do what I need to do.

I look at Elitefts articles as well and most are great for this exact point.

Malinda

My main problems with touching are that I currently have a very tight shirt ,have been having lots of bicep pain, and have been using submaximal weights . Back strength has not really been an issue , just that the weights were to light to pull down .

Why sheiko ? It has helped some of my teamates to big numbers and training in the same gym as Wade Hooper also influnced my choice as well.
But at this point I think I am going to be shutting it down in terms of sheiko after this meet . Because of my college life style . Late night studying ,holding down a job, bills, etc. Sheiko seems to have put me into a state of overtraining .

And it takes up a large chunk of time 10-15 hours a week in the gym. which is hard to keep up with . so after this meet i will be returning to a more traditional style of training for the time being . I think in the long run this will work better towards my ultimate goal.
Thanks for your observations and critiques they are always welcome .

If you are having troubles with a tight shirt man… bring a squirt bottle to the gym with you and lightly wet the seams. I had to do that when I first got my Rage. The damn thing was such a bitch to bring down I could barely touch with 500.
Between a shit ton of more back work and the spray bottle it became very easy. I dont even use the bottle any more. I can beat the shirt down with very light weight… so I’m moving along I guess.

Thanks for the tip man I will have to give the spray bottle a try .

Nope , no more meets before collegiates. It is just time for me to bump up my training numbers and reset my previous goal of 1700. After this meet im gunning for something between 1750-1800 for collegiates .
