Road Rage Karma

Dr. Pangloss have fun in the Pokey.

Getting back to the original vid:

See, this is why the greater portion of the planet does not get your gun laws. All that screaming and shouting about some retarded “right” to bear arms, but when you have an opportunity to use them, aside from shooting beer cans and squirrels, all you do is flip the bird.

Now, if I lived in a country with your prehistoric gun laws and I was stuck behind some entitled shithead hogging the left hand lane (that would be the right hand lane in many other countries, but let’s just call it the “overtaking lane”), I would seriously pull out that glock or s&W and do a Tarantino on dat bitch. And you know what the driver’s side window would look like, right? Think Django hiding behind that dead body. Remember? Holy crapulations, dat was like Old Faithful in red.

So, if Karma is real, she would have laughed so hard she drove off the road into an Oak tree and planted her undoubtably McDonalds bloated face through the wind shield.

I think I need to cut back on the coffee.

Guilty!

On that topic, I feel people don’t understand how wasted you have to be to have a BAC over 0.08. It’s far from 2-3 drinks unless you slammed back a few shots and went right to your car.
This is highly individualized. Some people 2-3 drinks will have them looped. My old man would drink a fifth of Jim Beam and you could barely tell he had anything to drink.
Like I said, there will always be outliers. That’s why there are separate charges for being over the legal BAC and impaired operation. You could blow under and be charged with impaired, or have a lot to drink without being impaired and charged with over .80.

They could be exempt from the law, but bound by department policy. It depends.

I can’t speak for the cops in your area, but most cops have certified speedometers that are far more accurate than most vehicles. I’ve seen speedometers out by over 5mph on factory rims and tires, and they usually read faster than the actual speed.

I recently got off the phone with a lawyer. This is going to be a heck of a ticket.

It turns out that due to aggravating conditions (32 over, and a construction zone) this is no longer a petty offense, but is now a Class B misdemeanor with a maximum penalty of 180 days in jail and $1,500 fine.

The minimum fine will be $375 plus court costs and my lawyer is going to cost $400 to represent me at both the first hearing date and at trial (trial!). So, I’m looking at $1,000 ticket easily.

I’m too pretty to go to jail.
that sucks, and is bullshit.
It sucks, and in no way am I giving the good Dr. a hard time, but how is it bullshit?

“Oh sorry officer, you know this roads is down hill and it’s easy to go 35 mph over the limit…Oh and I didn’t see those giant orange cones either.”

I mean come on…
It’s compete utter revenue collecting bullshit because there were no construction workers working (are there ever?), the pig was in an unarked car and the “limit” was 45mph and the Dr. was only doing 77mph. He should get a ticket, but the amount of bullshit he is going to now have to deal with is fucking asinine.

Doing 100 while there are people working, sure throw the book them. 77 while nobody is out there = MONEY COLLECTION.
How can you be sure no one was working? We have night crews doing road work all the time in MD.

Only doing 77, lol, he’s damn near DOUBLE the limit. He also knew he was in a construction zone.

I bet after all this bs Dr. Pangloss won’t do 35 over.

That’s right. You can’t drive behind bars.

5:30 on weekday mornings is a great time to catch impaired drivers? So are the just cruising around for the 2 1/2 hours since the bar closed?

Yes, there is a time of day the speed limit is appropriate due to there being businesses with parking lots close to the road, I thought I made that clear. I’m talking about a time at which the business’s are not open. Strangely, I never see cops there when they are open. Maybe it is because it is not conducive to speeding then due to traffic.

I don’t know what to tell you about you not seeing cops drive like there is no one else on the road, I see it all the time and see many near misses. We just had a fatality last year from a cop doing a U turn on the freeway with no flashers on.

Your logic defies me on the speedometers. So if a cop blows by me it is because I am going slower than I think? Oddly enough my GPS matches the speedo on my truck to the digit.

Sounds like someone is going to have some Internet Rage soon.
usmccds423 wrote:

I made the same commute again today.

I was doing 70 in a 55 (the construction zone is only approx 5 miles of a 80 mile one-way commute I make) in the right lane and was getting passed by semis.

I was a danger to the rest of traffic, so I sped up to 75 and camped out in the second lane from the right. So, you’re right. I probably won’t do 35 over again because it messes up my calculus. I will do 24 over because that’s a petty offense.

Addressing a point you made earlier: I make a 160 miles round-trip commute 3 or 4 times a week. The difference between doing 55 and 85 is the difference between being able to drop my kids off at school in the morning and pick them up in the afternoon, and having to hire a sitter to take them to school and putting them in after-care once school lets out.

So, here’s the math I face:

Driving 55: Pay sitter $15 to come to my place, pick kids up and take them to school. Pay after-care $45 (3 kids x $15) to watch kids after they get out of school. Miss taking my kids to school and picking them up.

Driving 85: One $1,000 speeding ticket every 6 years. Let’s call it $2,200 if you include the $400/year bump in my insurance premium. But, I get make my kids pancakes in the AM, take them to school and I’m there waiting for them when they get out.

In other words, speeding is a calculated risk I take because the benefits (personal and financial) outweigh the costs.

Cars going 55 on the highway are like arterial plaque clogging up the arteries of the modern world.

It seemed like you were opposed to revenue being generated by the speeding fines. I offered an alternative way of penalizing speeders. I didn’t state you received a ticket, it was a hypothetical question.

Police nab people for impaired driving at all hours of the day, it’s just really easy to spot them in the early morning.

Oh, I didn’t realize speed limits only applied when businesses were open. That must be the really, really fine print on the speed limit sign that I can’t see.

If a cop “blows” by you and you are doing the speed limit, then yes they are probably speeding.

That’s great that your truck is right on the money. I’ve seen many vehicles that were off by quite a bit.

I can’t remember if I wrote this or not, but I mean’t average commutes like 20-30 miles not 80. The difference of a few minutes is negligible in my opinion. If you commute 30 miles the difference between doing 60 and 80 is, what, 7 minutes (plus you gotta remember you have to average those speeds). Not worth it to me, but that’s just my opinion.

Lol, if you respect the speed limit you’re a liberal… Classic T-Nation right there.

“I should be able to drive however fast I want, fuck everyone else!” -As self centered as it gets. Sounds much more like a liberal to me
