Rise Of The Slaya 2019- Next Strongman Comp prep and fixing my hip

Sounds like you like them.
How long have you had them? What are you mainly using them on?
I’ve been thinking about getting some.

I’ve had them since may. I original bought them for my grip training/gaining forearm size and grippers (Keeping my elbows healthy). Get them man, total game changer. Stuff that hurts my shoulders/elbows doesnt when i put fat gripz on, heck even for pullups/back work having fat gripz on makes me have a better MMC with my back muscles because it makes the exercises harder or something.

I’ve been wondering if the Axle bar would be better for my pressing movements due to the increased thickness. I have big hands so the bar can get a couple inches away from my line of force due to wrist flexion. Do the Fat Gripz slip on the bar? Any trouble with them trying to rotate?

I’d recommend giving it a try. For me Axle pressing feels better than a regular barbell

I havent tried them for a barbell but so far with dumbell overhead presses i havent noticed any slipping

Ive used fat gripz on pretty much everything, only time they have slipped on me is on pullups(Only cause alot of the pullup bars had a smaller diameter then BB) and when doing cleans.

If I had access to an Axle then I wouldn’t be wondering!

Axle goes a long way in my experience toward reducing elbow pain.

Fat gripz on a bar for pressing run into the issue that you effectively make it a cambered bar. Your hands are now lower in line with the center of the bar, which means, assuming you touch the bar to your torso on a press, you have a longer ROM, which can torque your shoulders. You could effectively solve it by putting a third fat grip on the center of the bar I suppose.

Regarding access to an axle, Titan sells them for like $45 shipped, or you can just cut a 7.5’ length of pipe from Home Depot.

I actually fixed this issue by using those squat(pussy) pads that some people use on the bar, dont know the actual name(unless it is called a squat pad)

Yeah, definitely another viable fix. On that topic, if we wanna talk super low tech, you could always just put a pool noodle around a barbell and create a squishy axle.

I’ve got 4 lengths of pool noodle for stuff like that. Makes anything zercher more bearable, but I found the best use was on the safety pins. Makes doing pin/deadstop reps quieter and less bouncy.

For sure. I always buy a new one in the summer if I’m going to start doing heavy pin work, haha.

Haha yeah, their durability is… that of a pool noodle.

Today’s training, Strongman class 1hr
Everyone there is one week out from comp so today we were going through comp weights. I warmed up with the ladies comp weights which were real light so moved on and tryed to keep up with this 105+ division strongman dude.

Farmers
His comp weight was 130 per hand and i just worked in and got up to 100kg per hand (PR) and i lost/ wasnt tight enough so didnt complete the run

Zercher carry
Holy shit!

I got up to 160kg on this for about 6 metres so PR didnt make the 15 metres tho.

back off 30 metres with 110kg

After class did machine rows, planks and hammer curls.

sounds like at great time Young Duke well done.
great carry mate

Thanks mort! Wont be seeing heavier carries like that in my log for a while. Will be working on speed and tightness. I need to be building strength, not testing it.

Schedule change
Not doing strongman class anymore. I was just doing it to get started.

Keeping the same setup:
Upper (Axle push press, accessories)
Lower (Deadlift, front squat, Accessories)

Upper (Bench and accessories)

And fridays going to be
Lower/Events

SSB squat
Yoke
Atlas stones (I’ll alternate between farmers and zerchers with yoke and stones)
Glute ham raises or back extension etc, core work

weekend off

So I’ve got a belt (Pioneer 10mm lever). (I do not like this for carries so far) What equipment do you guys use? What would you recommend i need for strongman and general lifting health? @T3hPwnisher @flipcollar @Koestrizer @strongmanvinny2 @brady888 @TX_iron @OTHSteve @density_tcd @theonecamko @littlesleeper

My Equipment:
-belt
-oly shoes
-wrist wraps
-elbow/knee sleeves
-backwards hat for when things get serious
-a girlfriend

Recommendations:
-All of the above, but hold off for a bit. Belt is one thing, cause it’s easily adjusted, but spending money every year to replace shoes and sleeves(cause you are young and still growing) is a waste.
