In reality stuff that makes you do work in awkward positions makes you less vulnerable to injuries as you develop a more complete and well-rounded physique

If we have two guys, say A and B

A does reps on Jefferson deads with 500 pounds and he may round his back a bit from time to time. He also does cheat rows with 365lbs

Person B does only uses conventional exercises and perfect form. He deadlifts 315 for reps and stops as soon as he feels that his form may break down on the next rep. He also does rows with 185 pounds and perfect form.

Now put these two guys into a situation where they need to use strength in real life: lift something heavy without warming up.

Who will blow a disc or rip a bicep?

Person A who has built up tremendous strength in his midsection and tendons and can lift in awkward positions or person B who doesn’t have nearly as much strength and isn’t comfortable in awkward positions?

Now note that these two persons are not even too far from each other strength-wise. In half a year person B could turn into person B (given that he has favourable leverages for Jefferson deads.)

Definitely. One arm suitcase deads left my back feeling good whereas conventional deads trash it.

Im pretty sure 500ibs on jeffersons deadlift is alot stronger than 315 conventional lol?

Agreed, that’s why I switched over to snatch grip deads myself a while back (I don’t think I mentioned it but I did)

A dude who has favourable leverages for the Jefferson may be 15-20% stronger on them than on Deadlifts (even hitched deads) say that a dude who can Deadlift 315 with “perfect form” can do 350 with hitching

Then he could do around 400 pounds with the jeffersons, and in half a year you he’d be able to pull 460 if he got 10 pounds per month (hence why I said that in half a year he could turn)

Okay, maybe 500 was bit of an exaggeration, but you get the point

A fairer comparison would probably have been like 405 vs 315

Oh okay. Thx for the explanation. What muscle groups does jefferson deadlifts work compared to regular deads?

Some cake
×2 plates of quiche and salad
1 litre of milk

Conventional deads are mostly hamstrings, glutes, lower back and quads.

Jefferson deads are a really complete exercise

Basically one of your legs is working as it would in a sumo pull and the other is doing a hack squat - when you switch sides you have hit your thighs completely (apart from the short head of your hamstring, which is a knee flexor)

In addition to that you’ll hit your obliques really hard as there is some rotation to the movement and your stance is asymmetrical.
Also your lats are working hard as hell here.

The reason that makes Jefferson deads great is really the asymmetry, because you are basically doing two exercises at the same time. (Sumo and behind the back dead)

Was down and out with the flu so I missed a lot. But I’m totally in for the new log!

Happy Belated Birthday, Duke!

My gyms dumbbells only go up to 100lbs( roughly .51 Kangaroos) so I started using the barbell for single arm rows. Just an idea for yah.

Jeffersons deads sound like an underrated exercise imo. Dont see or hear many people doing them.

Its like how years ago OHP was the king of the upper body lifts and now its bench press.

@IronAndMetal thanks man welcome to my log!

@theonecamko thanks for that man. @Frank_C suggested them earlier tho.

Yeah, it’s probably because they are weird and awkward at first - most people haven’t even heard of them and even less know how to do them. But if you take the time to learn the Jeffersons it can be a very valuable tool for you.
