Grip training

Warmup:
Forearm stretches, couple of sets of ten with the trainer.

No.1 ×14 PR left hand ×13 with the right

×10

No.2 ×3 sets of negatives

Also way closer to closing the number 2 than last time. Even though i only got it saturday.

Towel pullups
×7 PR
×3
×5

×7 normal pullups
3 sets of hand bands

Very pleased with this session. In my sports classes at school we’ve dabbled a bit into sports psychology and one of the things an athlete uses is mental imagery.

Well today in my workout i used mental imagery to envision myself setting a PR with my left hand (after weeks and no progress, whilst my right continued getting PR’s)

It really does work. I’ll be using this alot more from now on.

@Basement_Gainz mentioned it to me in my gripper thread a couple of months ago, to visualise closing the no.3 every day. I’ll think I’ll do just that

One of my favourite songs by TAA

Dammit @duketheslaya . You made me pick them back up after years of them collecting dust. Closed the 1.5 no problem and the 2 after warmed up. I’d suggest dropping the coin on the incremental ones. It’d be worth it to train the 2.5 on your way to 3.

Also work your hand opening in the other direction (bucket of rice or bands) or tendonitis will bite you.

Nice! Closing the 2 after not training them for ages is pretty strong. I have the trainer, 1, 2, 2.5 and 3. I might buy the 1.5.

I have the bands and now do them religiously. I had to take two weeks off and rehab my elbows to rid tendonitis because i kept skipping the bands. Elbows are great now that i use the bands everyday pretty much.

Whaaaat a degree? A degree in business I hope. Unless you want to go into sports therapy? Is being a trainer still the dream?

I want to get my Master in Exercise Science (Strength and conditioning)

First i have to get a bachelors degree:

“All applicants are required to have successfully completed a Bachelor degree in Sports Science, Human Movement, Physical Education, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology or a similar program of study. In particular, an undergraduate background in human anatomy and physiology is required. Alternatively applicants can apply if they possess a Bachelor degree in another area and have demonstrated strength and conditioning experience, at the discretion of the Course Coordinator”

After that i’ll aim for a level 1&2&3 course completion at the Australian Strength and Conditioning Association:

https://www.strengthandconditioning.org

Then After that i can work at the Australian Institute of Sport and be a Strength and Conditioning coach for Australias Elite athletes.

https://www.ausport.gov.au/ais/performance_support/strength_and_conditioning

Pathway 2 :
Still go to Uni

I also want to Coach strongman etc/ Be a personal trainer or coach Rugby athletes etc etc. Or be an International strength and conditioning coach. I can’t decide what i want to do out of the things I’ve listed but definitely get qualified as a personal trainer and go to Uni.

Also, later on in life i want to eventually run my own old school style hardcore gym for (Strongman, Bodybuilding, Powerlifting, Olympic lifting, Athletes e.g Rugby) or just people who want to be jacked tan and juicy as fuck. Etc

What jobs are available to you with this path? Does your high school (ages 14-18 here) have weight lifting classes as part of the physical education department? If so, then I’d get the physical education degree so you can be a teacher. While doing that work in the strength and conditioning field for experience so you can get a pass into the master’s program.

I have a bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science but I can’t teach with that. If I’d done P.E. first then I could still go back and get a master’s in an exercise science related field. However, I can’t go back and get a master’s in P.E. to become a teacher. My only option is to get another bachelor’s degree.

Working with kids your age would be a dream come true and the best way to do that is through the high school P.E. department. Kids don’t have to pay for training. It’s tough to make a living in the personal training or private strength coach world around here because people are fond of their money. They don’t value the training and expertise you offer. I think the going rate for quality personal training sessions is around $70-100 per hour but people here won’t pay $40.

How many people get to do this? What are the odds of succeeding at landing a job here?

I’m not being negative but I want you to have other options available to you. I wanted to be a college strength and conditioning coach. I got married the year after I graduated with my bachelor’s degree. I soon realized that to work at the college level everyone wanted me to have a master’s degree and college experience. I searched and searched but I came to the conclusion that everyone wanted me to be a graduate assistant. I’d get my master’s and experience at the same time. The only problem was that I’d being paying high tuition rates and volunteering. That wasn’t feasible as a married guy. I wasn’t going to do that to my wife. I also realized that the work hours weren’t ever going to be that great as a college coach. I’m sure I would eventually land a head coach gig and be able to tell my assistants, grad assistants, and interns to work the early and late hours, but that would take a while to get to that point.

The pivotal years to build my career are also the pivotal years to build a family. You can’t neglect the family for 10-15 years and then expect to have a happy, healthy family. I chose family over career so here I am not working in the strength and conditioning field.

Hey mate,

You look like you’ve planned out your post-uni study really well, but have you looked much at actual unis? UWA has one of the most flexible undergraduate course structures, so the set-up you’d need for a Master’s in Exercise science could be attained with some cool dual majors. Assuming you’re looking for a backup, you could easily do something like Bachelor of Science majoring Exercise Science and Anatomy or Exercise Science and business or pretty much anything (seriously… UWA is awesome). You’d have a great set-up for post-grad study, and a really flexible undergrad.

Good luck mate.

Also there’s a small chance I might move to Perth next year

Or you could try the Kali Muscle method: do porn videos, go to prison, get out of prison, become jacked, and get rich all while being 100% natty. That’s the path I recommend

Schools here don’t really have lifting classes.

Man that really sucks. Is there anything you can do with your bachelors right now that you would enjoy and earn a solid income?

Americas bigger than Australia so i don’t really know but it would be the same I’m guessing. I know a good amount of trainers e.g Strongman, bodybuilding and powerlifting competitors ( basically really strong and intelligent people ) that are doing well so from my perspective it isn’t that hard in perth. Theirs a big demand for trainers. ( a tonne of advertised jobs too)

Not many people go the route considering the effort it requires. Not just anybody can coach elite athletes.

I don’t want to get married for at least 15 years.I also don’t want kids until I’ve established my career and have a decent income. I say that now but i guess you don’t know what happens in the future.

If everything else fails then I’ll be a fireman, police officer or be in the military.

ECU is pretty much the Uni that I’m after, out off all the options it seems like the best one.

Thanks!

I remember you saying that. That would be awesome! You’re year 12 hey so you’ll be straight into uni?
