Rise Of The Slaya 2019- Next Strongman Comp prep and fixing my hip

Goals are supposed to be SMART.

Specific
Measurable
Achievable
Relevant
Time Bound

Goals are whatever the hell anyone chooses them to be. One should not limit themselves by saying oh il just add 1kg to all my lifts this year. Fuck that!

Id rather go for gold and focus my mind on getting as strong as possible, every single damn day regardless of being able to achieve the big goals in a small timeframe or not.

Just giving you the blueprint for successful planning. It applies to more than just the gym.

A lot of people think they have goals.

“I want to make more money.”

“I want to get stronger.”

“I want to be more successful.”

Those aren’t goals. They’re wishes.

Goals would be:

“I want to make an extra $500 this month and I’m going to do _____ to make that happen.”

“I want to increase my deadlift by 10kgs by March 1st. I’m going to follow CT’s SGSS template for my deadlifts to achieve that.” (can you tell I really like that program LOL)

And the last one is so vague that I can’t even elaborate. I’m not saying that you’ve ever said these things. These are just some pretty common “goals” that people throw around…especially around New Year’s.

Do what you want. Approach it however you want. Hopefully we’ll all be able to meet back here in a year and see how you did.

I’m not really a plan everything down to a fine line kind of guy, I do like some sort of order however. SMART seems like a solid method for planning though

Coach thib should sponsor you by this point haha!

I hope all the crew is still here come a years time. It’s life but it sucks when people leave for various reasons. For example people like @Benanything @cdmac24 @Irishman92 @countrygirl2016 @littlelee @OTHSteve @hugh_gilly and i could go on forever

It sucks when someone pops on here and adds a lot of positive energy and then disappears. I used to compete with @lil.greggy on bench and then he just disappeared on me. @cdmac24 was another good one that came and went. I can still find him on Instagram though. Maybe I’ll send him a message and invite him back for the T-ransformation.

I’m not either but I know enough to know that having a legit plan is better than the usual stuff. The biggest thing is making your plan/goal specific so you can measure success or failure.

I could say “I want to get better at deadlifting this year” but that could mean different things. I could improve my technique. I could improve my ability to recover from deadlifting sessions. I could get stronger. Which one would be success and which one is failure? But “I want to deadlift 600 lbs” is pretty cut and dry.

I haven’t left, I’m just busy!

@duketheslaya, @Frank_C is giving some sound advice regarding goals. I however think there is space for both aspirational goals (long term goals) and also more short to mid term goals. Both are really important.
Having a goal to win a national strongman comp one day is a good aspirational goal.
What I would do is to break that aspirational goal into smaller goals. 1. Compete in novice comp, 2. Place at x comp (specific date) 3. Win comp
Then for each of these smaller goals there is a plan of how to get there. That plan may be following a particular program and improving a certain left.
The most successful people in life at whatever they do, do not get there by accident.

I think setting your goals higher than you can reach is still a solid way to think if you can handle what it brings. Personally I can’t do it because I always end up talking too much shit and not being able to back it up for my goals. Also I got tired of not reaching the goal and would get too pissed off at myself. Nonetheless I would still end up stronger than I was.

  1. Get stronger/Improve
  2. Compete
  3. Get even more stronger/better as a strongman
  4. Compete again
  5. Repeat process until win States then Asm and Arnolds, get pro card (Arnolds) then compete in wsm/Wsm games in whatever division and win.

I believe if you set goals like adding x to your lifts e.g 100kg to your deadlift in a year vs 10kg, If you try to add 100kg at all costs vs 10kg , you’ll be alot stronger than if you were like oh I’m going to just add 10kg.

Ayy do you use chalk for deadlifts?

Yeah man

Im gonna have to use my chalk then, the bar keeps slipping out on heavy sets. I train in a semi-commercial gym and then dont like too much chalk everywhere so Ill have to be clean with it.

Buy liquid chalk?

Meh ill just try use normal and if it wont work ill see the liq chalk.

Oh yeah for sure man. I’d suggest putting your chalk in some kind of container and applying it in there. If they complain liquid chalks easy and doesn’t make a mess

I used my chalk out of a big plastic bag before I joined a gym that had some, just make sure you clean up the bar/weights afterwards and nobody will ever know lol

A good way to end the year  OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG OMG THAT GIRL I TALKED ABOUT A COUPLE OF WEEKS AGO IS NOW MY GIRLFRIEND YEWWW HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!
