I just looked it up. So its probably wrong lol. I got it from the butcher so there wasnt like any packet info that Meat normally has
Wow wow hold your horses young man do NOT run out of the rack.
Take one step back, place foot, wait 2-3 seconds before placing the other foot were it’s supposed to be, wait another 2-3 seconds step a small step to the side to place the first foot were it’s supposed to be when you squat.
Let the BB settle, brace hard - squat.
Stance is very dependent on your bone structure/joint in the pelvis and femur.
It’s very personal.

well now that i rewatched the video… woops
So take one step back with the left foot, then the right, then move the left food sideways to proper stance? Then brace hard afer barbells settled?
Exactly that’s the way to do it, you have light weight on your shoulder, but when the weights get heavy, you want the BB to settle between each step, and you want to do as few as possible.
You might even be able to do it in two steps, if your stance isn’t very wide.
If the BB swings around with a big PR on top you’ll lose it, so nice and easy.
My stance isnt that wide. Idk I’ll try it out
Your front squat walkout is much better than that particular SSB walkout.
That must be the worst squat walkout in the history of tnation haha ![]()
stuff
I don’t do enough rowing work to counteract my presses. For every set of pressing i should do a row variation to counteract it. I hardly ever do any back work intentionally (It gets hit very hard from event work or whatever else i do, so it has grown from that). It is important for balance and shoulder health.
That’s like weight training 101. Just do the opposite movement in supersets. Pull ups with OHP. Rows with bench like movements. If you were to pick one then pick horizontal movements. They seem to be better for lat development.
I do that too. It’s partly to have time to brace properly for the clean, get big air and whatnot. And it’s a chance to rest just a little bit after picking it up off the ground.
Having the log on your lap hand holding it there for a few seconds really doesn’t take a lot of energy if you do it right. But it does take a lot to hold it in the rack position after you’ve cleaned it. So there are too ways to get your big air. If you can manage it, you can get your air while the log is on your lap, clean it, and then press it without taking another breath. The other option is to take a second big breath once you’ve racked it, but do your best not to hold it there tooooooo long. Not saying you should rush it. You still need to make sure you’re stable before you press.
I just starting training with a log again and this is my biggest issue thus far.
I let it get out of hand (laziness by avoiding back work). Now my shoulders have started to round in a way i don’t like.
Id normally superset presses with pullups on a monday. Thats pretty much the only direct back work i do in a week. Absolutely stupid of me. I believe the back should be trained with high frequency anyway. My back is my best developed part of my body for sure and grows easily. If i put effort into rows and the like I’m sure it’ll explode
Makes sense.
I’ve seen first hand at Static monsters (was hosted at my gym for the state) that taking a bunch of big breaths while the log is racked isn’t good. You lose the rack position more and more. Would fast shallow breaths be effective?
I’ve never seen anyone do that successfully. That makes sense on carries, not on this.
Why would you want to do that? Holding the log in the rack is just so taxing. Every second you spend with it racked translates to lost strength on the press.
It’s definitely easier said than done, but you’ve got to get that big air quickly, stabilize yourself, and then press. no fucking around, no thinking about it, no extra movements or breaths.
Alright. I’ve never had a heavy log racked so i dont know what it feels like. I’ll try to take just one breath, I’ll definitely be using the Log rack holds for now and lighter cleans for practice
Get them rows out duke. Barbell rows, DB rows, chins and pull ups… Again check out Brians site he made an excellent video of the how and why to row.
Do like Nike … just do it … right
Brians 100% definitely the most helpful dude on youtube. Gotta row to grow! New goal: max out the gym dumbells on rows (80kg)
@mortdk after brians row video i now have an almost irresistible urge to go to the gym and row the heaviest dunbell possible for as many reps as possible. I need to chill! It’s a rest day today. Boy do i hate rest days ![]()
Just get really hyped to recover bro. Sleep insane. Eat like a beast etc. etc.
