Now off to teach pink IRON [a circuit style weight-training class] before doing Yoga!
I’m psyched for Yoga

There has been an increase in yoga talk around here, anyone else noticed?

It’s awesome you trained your back first and got to move more weight, that’s how I always do it. Good stuff!

Lol! We’re slowly converting Powerful Women into Flexible (and centered) Ladies

Bekah, I did yoga just today. Its quite momentous because the first time I tried yoga was 10 years ago and it was also the last time I tried yoga. But today I didn’t mind it so much - I particularly liked when the teacher would tell us to “Cattaranga”, which in my head is an exotic dance that one does half naked in front of Cuban brass band.

Oy, I don’t really do lunges except for my favorite the Bulgarian Split Squat - i probably should start doing more of them…I honestly just don’t feel them!

Great work! Keep it up.

Wow, that’s quite a story. It goes to show that people who are fit bounce back from serious illness/injuries a lot faster than their less active peers.

Regarding lunges, I’ve found them effective but lately my right knee hates them so I’ve stopped doing them for now. I’m pretty old and busted so I tend to pay attention when my body voices its displeasure.

hmm, I think for as long as I’ve been lifting I train the bigger musklez first…
yay for moving more weight!!

I absolutely love Yoga. When I opened up my Fitness Studio, I figured I’d hire a yoga instructor to bring in more clients, but had never really tried yoga much before then. I had harped on it- saying “oh how boring”, etc, etc, but after my first real yoga class, I was hooked! The yoga class that I go to is mainly flow yoga and more fast than an actual class. It totally kicks my butt and works my upper body while stretching and lengthening my lower body. I am pretty solid on the flexibility - but I need to work on my balance for sure!

I totally agree… those who exercise have a much better chance at bouncing back to their normal life.

I listen to my body too - lunges and bad knees do not mix at all! I make sure my form is spot on every time to ensure that I don’t do something to tweek it out!

wow! what a story is right! Well, I’m in! I’ll be popping into this log!!

I love me some Bulgarian Split Squats too!

Ok just popping on to say that I’m about to do my first 5K race post-operation! I was cleared for running two weeks ago, and ran around 35 miles in that time to get my legs moving and grooving. Thankfully, when on my runs, I realized that my breathing is fine - but it’s more of the muscles in my legs that are weak. For me, this is better than the latter, because my cardiovascular system didn’t crash as bad as I thought. However, the moment I get to 3 miles, my breathing goes biserk - so I know I did lose some much needed endurance. (I used to run 4.5-5 miles no problem).

I’m nervous, shaking, pumped, excited, and freaking COLD - I’m a true Floridian, anything under 70 degrees is cold for me and it’s going to be 38 degrees tonight… holy moly. My absolutely amazing BF agreed to run along with me and said he won’t get sad if I up and leave him along the way LOL!

No weights at all today, but needed the rest overall. Back at it tomorrow. Printed out my logs to track everything and after the 5K, BF & I are heading to grocery store to pick up some food. I spent about 1 hour today going through all the amazing articles on this site. Kinda bummed that I JUST found it, but better late then never.

Flashback_____
My highest weight was around 189lbs. I am 5’6" and held the weight all over.

I was always a dancer, acrobat, and soccer player in high school, so why all the weight?

It primarily came my freshman year of college [go figure], away from my family, depressed, homesick, and just felt off. But thankfully, one of my roommates encouraged me to join the Crew team and after that, I was hooked. I lost 45lbs quickly and safely - by lifting weights, HIIT, and playing intramurals. I also got involved in the competitive cheerleading squad too. Soon after, met my BF [Danny] & we’ve been together for over 5 years now. He was athletic in highschool too, so he supports anything and everything fitness-related. BIG PLUS!

I love to read, so I read just about everything to do with nutrition and supplements, exercise, fitness, and beyond. One summer, I helped both of my sisters lose 10lbs by “training” them. And my mom asked why I didn’t pursue that direction since I had done such a good job of not only losing weight myself, but helping others. So I studied for the PT certification and received it 4 weeks later. It ended up being just a part-time job while in college for International Business. Now it’s my full time job as a business owner of a studio and I’m now in my Masters program, pursuing Nutrition and Dietetics.

I’m hooked on learning and I’m so pumped to be turning my fitness journey into something a little more specific. I am planning on doing a fitness figure competition on July 8/9th 2011. I have a lot to learn, a long way to go, but I WILL get there! I believe I have the basics and fundamentals to get through some of the way, but it sure does help to have support too.

amazing story. you kick ass. =+)

That’s a great story, and like Deja said, you do “kick ass!”

Good luck in prep for your show next year, you’ll rock it!

Finished just under 28 minutes for my 5K.
My PR a year or so ago was around 24-25 minutes, so I’m looking forward to getting back to that groove.

Today at the gym is Triceps/Chest - I will be back later to post my results.

Thank you all for your continued support!

Live. Laugh. Love. Workout.

haha not quite the ring live. laugh. love. lift. would have… but it’ll do. =+)

congrats on getting the 5k under your postoperation belt. i’m sure you’ll b back to lightning speed in no time.

Nice run.

What alot of positive energy and can-do spirit in this log. Major win.

Congrats on that 5K.

20lb x 12
20lb x 12

And then decided to take a shot at some dips, and only got 10 in!
Very depressing!

In my opinion - today’s lift day lacked spunk but at the same time, I now know where to focus my energy and I look forward to seeing these numbers get bigger and better. I enjoyed the exercises themselves, I just wish that I wasn’t such a weakling lol, but then again, my workout partner today was my boyfriend, so I don’t really want to compare myself to him. The day I can lift more than him - will be a good day

With my added motivation to make today excel - I was instructing a Boot Camp class and decided since the majority of my girls were my “regulars” - that we’d do an all out repetition workout & I’d join in!!! WAHOO! They loved that I did it with them because they knew they couldn’t complain since I was doing it too. These rep workouts are mainly for conditioning- but they kick major booty and I ended up leaving the studio happy because I know that I did good today overall.

Rep Workout_________

60 Burpees
60 1-legged push ups (30 each leg)
60 Jump Squats with 5lb ankle weights on
60 Cursty Lunges with arm extension [10lb DB] (30 each side)
60 Sit Ups with plate weight on the chest [25lb plate weight]
60 Step Ups onto the Tire [holding 25lb plate weight on chest]
60 In + Out Squat Jumps [basically a prisoner squat into a wide squat]
60 Tuck Jumps
60 1-legged deadlifts with 10lb DB (30 each leg)
60 Bottom Droppers [in a plank position, feed the left leg through, reach for it with your right hand and flip your body around until your bottom almost touches the ground , then switch sides halfway through)

Afterwards, we flipped the 300lb tire for a minute each while the others jump roped. There was 6 of us, so we ended up jumping rope for 5 minutes total. It rocked. I loved it.

This is my spot from where I will pay attention to your journal. Very great story, great stuff and awesome mental attitude!!

Bravo!
