Thank you, however my back is KILLING me today. I don’t think I’ll be pulling for more than 5-6 reps anymore.

Solid work. Good call on keeping the reps lower on deads and great work on the weight loss.

Thanks James. Certainly lesson learned, my back is still so sore I took today off.

Sorry I haven’t been posting much lately, been busy as hell with work.

Yesterday even though my back was sore I squated.

Foam rolled, stretched and misc flexibility exercises.

Squat-
135x10
135x5
185x6-8 sets of 5

GHR
3x15

curls somexsome

Zercher squats
135x5
135x5
185x5

Squat focus remains depth and depth only, which is why I only used 185. Still not there but I feel more loose, not as hitchy. My normal squat stance is wide but played with a more traditional style to see what happened. Thinking the more narrow stances may be something worth pursuing.
Since Zerchers seem to be growing in popularity lately thought I’d try them out again, haven’t done them in a few years. These also may be something that I keep around, no depth problems there.
Probably should have skipped yesterday or benched instead of squatting because my back is on fire right now. As I stated above I skipped lifting tonight to allow a day for my back to stop pounding.

Traditional squat

wide squat

would you mind my advice?

any and all.

Nice session

your dog is awesome.

I can only say to keep working on mobility ankle and hip
I see your left ankle looks a little stiff but your like tall so its ok

force your elbows under the bar a little more

otherwise looking good

He’s a pretty good dog, little annoying at times, he’s still a puppy so that will change.

I wonder if I should go a bit heavier? I only say that because the little things I’m normally pretty good at, big arch, elbows under the bar, etc I forget about with lighter weight?

Thanks kmcnyc.

Dday, is that a lab? Agree with Kevin, being tall can be somewhat disadvantageous, so I have no excuses im 5’9", from the looks of it your almost there…Ill be doing squats today I didnt bring my flip but maybe I can use my cell. Zerchers, oh the sweet pain!

Yep, he’s a lab but might be mixed, we got him from the pound so hard telling what he is for sure.
Pretty sure I’ve mentioned it but I’m kind of tall, 6’2"ish but all arms and legs, 34" inseam and can’t buy long sleve shirts off most racks.

Your dog is so sweet. Very patient. I’m waiting for my Yorkie to get up in years so her hyper-ness will temper off lol

Yeah, squatting with your back probably wasn’t best. I’m sure it’s just sore and not pain though so no worries, just be careful.

And chyea, zerchers are worth talking about =)

Love your dog, Dday.

Not sure that going heavier would help. Your squats are barely getting down to parallel. I’ve got long legs too (grumble) and had to whack off weight to train myself to get down to depth.

Shelter dogs = the best dogs, one of my dogs is a shelter dog the other I found on a highway and yes the other one, was store bought YIKES, I know I know, I couldnt help myself.

Looking strong dday. Reading your log made me remember how much I love burritos. Thanks.

Yep just sore, it didn’t really bother me while squatting but the last few days have been hell. This afternoon it’s been much better, gonna try to bench tonight.

You girls and those little dogs. Don’t tell anyone I said this but Yorkies are pretty cool dogs.

Alright then, i didn’t want to come across as a ass.

here’s a few tips that I find that helped myself. You probably herd them before.

  1. Joint mobility…Kmcnyc already covered that.

2.Squat with your hips and not your legs.

  1. At your height,I would make sure the bar placement is as low as possible so that the torque is reduced on your back and helps to keep your squat from becoming a sumo good morning.

  2. Really focus forcing your butt back when you squat.

  3. Hamstring … hamstring … hamstring strength. Work the hell out of them.

  4. I would suggest adding some box squats. Go scrounge up a box, bench, what ever…set as close to depth as you want .Id even suggest using a empty bar until you get the movement down.

That all I got at this point hope you find something useful out of this post.

My only thought was that the rest of my form goes to crap because the weight is so light and with heavier weight I would be forced to focus on the rest of my form. I’m not talking throwing 400lbs on the bar but mid 2’s. I may give it a try just to see.

You’d get along with my wife, she’d collect dogs if I let here. We had 3 at one point, got old and had to be put down the 3rd is still around at 11 years old and we got him a buddy (Yoda dog in the video)
