Not a movie, but the episode of Futurama entitled ‘Jurassic Bark’, in which Fry’s dog dies is quite possibly the saddest thing i’ve ever seen.
I have every season of the show and refuse to watch that episode because the first time was plenty enough.
I have also never owned a real pet so I can’t imagine the emotional attachment you would have watching that if you have ever had a pet die.
The music they play during that final scene certainly doesn’t help the crying situation. I agree with everyone who says they don’t do well with dogs dying. I took my mom to see I Am Legend and she had to leave for a bit after Sam died. As a grown man I didn’t want to cry in front of my mom, but as soon as she walked out I teared up, haha. Dogs should be eternal.
If you loved that episode of Futurama I recommend the Richard Gere movie “Hachiko”. It’s based on a true story.
If there’s two things in life I know I’m not fond of it’s anything where dogs die and Richard Gere movies. Think I’ll pass. Thanks though.
I agree completely, but this movie will surprise you…to get an idea, check the previous page where PimpBot5000 linked to the true story it’s based on and you’ll see why you won’t have to watch Gere for long.

Same here. Completely caught me off guard.
An insanely well done movie.

HOLY SHIT i got tears reading this post because i remember that episode. i cried when i watched that episode, and that was before my dog died when i was away at college. i’d had that dog since i was 5. my parents didn’t tell me right away when she died because they wanted to make sure my girl was with me at the dorm when they called. fuck now i’m really really sad…
When Will Smith has to kill Sam the dog in “I Am Legend”.
I felt sad as hell about that for WEEKS! Just the look on his face when he breaks her neck and lets the body just slump to the floor…ugh. : (

Sorry to hear that Stu. It’s fucking heartbreaking. I don’t care what anyone says, it’s painful as hell to have to do that - almost unbearable. : (

Agreed, that was unbelievably sad. You didn’t expect Futurama to make an episode like that.
This is a real-life story which may have inspired it…

Finally forced myself to read this. How fucking cool is that?

I remember watching that movie alone, and when Sam got bit by those zombie dogs trying to save Will Smith, I actually shouted at the screen, “Damn it!” cause I knew Sam was a goner.
The saddest part was when he’s driving through the city, and the camera pans over to an empty passenger seat where Sam used to sit. Tore me up inside.

Yea - it’s fuckin’ awful. In fact, it’s bumming me out even thinking about it right now. : (
When Optimus Prime dies in the cartoon movie if you don’t shed a tear you have no heart

OMG! THERE IT IS! Only thing I can remember atm that tore me up inside.
Goddamn allergies.
Closing scene of It’s a Beautiful Life, where the little kids gets to ride with some US tankers (big dream of his) - who liberated ‘his’ Nazi concentration camp - and he is reunited with his mothers.
Closing scene of the last episode, of the last season of Six Feet Under, where you see how all the characters are all going to die when their time comes.

what about terminator 2 when arnie descends into the pool of melted metal, with the thumbs up and then his red themed program shutting off. i almost cried at that one when i was a kid.
anyone?
This, then Terminator 3 came out and showed me a whole new level of sadness.
In House when Amber dies I almost lost it. It’s sad for a whole episode, too.
And I don’t know who watches Psych, but their most recent finale had two love interests get kidnapped and one was supposed to die. When they get free one of them just starts bawling… thought I was going to lose it then, too.

Oh man,… I saw that movie about a month after I ‘lost’ my pal… really lost it in the theater,… one of my friends who was next to me asked if I wanted to leave… I don’t think I’ve ever had a breakdown in public like that before…
(and yeah, I cried when Optimus Prime dies in the cartoon too -lol)
S
there aren’t too many movies that make me cry…
BUT i’ll tell ya, one time i had PMS and was craving pancakes. i burnt the pancakes and cried like a baby while scraping them into the garbage.
