Return of the Dog Pound

The more I think about this the more I would be happy with a “Post your fucking log HERE” forum. Every other post in Supplements and Nutrition is a V-Diet log, and frankly, I don’t give a damn. I know what the V-Diet is, I know that it works and I don’t need to read about a bunch of dumbasses that don’t follow the guidelines laid out by Shugs and then claim it doesn’t “work”.

I’m also starting to get confused about what exactly the “Dog Pound” would be. It sounds like a lot of people just want a place that weeds out the dumbasses, which I’m in favor of. But what else, and why? I can sort of foresee it becoming irrelevant once the newness and novelty wears off.

Personally, I’d much rather see the return of the Thinktank. Seeing Berardi, Lowrey, and DB battle over nutrition issues was better than porn. [/quote]

WORD. Fucking A. There are so many logs I cannot even handle it. All of them are skinny ass motherfuckers to start with. The V Diet has been around for a WHILE now… I never remember this many logs, and I have been reading this site since early 2006. The only thing I ever remember was the one V Diet thread.(V Diet support group?) Now there are tons of them. Its the most boring diet ever. Why do you have to post the same six shakes every fucking day and write “I was tired and hungry today, but still managed to have an ok workout” Shit.

/vicious rant

Oh and count my vote for the dog pound. I can’t wait.

Do it.

Yes…yes…yesyesyes…this is the truth

Yeah, I got no problem with the V-Diet. I think it’s great and I’ll probably try it one day. However, I’m sick of the logs. It’s the same thing every time, with different people and a different HSM. Congrats to those who do it, but even more congrats to those who do it and don’t post logs.

I vote yes.

And I want my vote counted twice, for no particular reason.

Edit: But I think it needs a new name. The Dog Pound sounds like something that was totally awesome back in the early 90’s, but pretty cheesy but today’s standards. Maybe call it the “Kitten Korner” or the “Turtle Tower”, because using the same letter at the beginning of both words is just plain clever.

On second thought, I guess the name really doesn’t matter.

Do you really need another reason?

I am interested in the different flavors of the shakes.

chocolate, vanilla, strawberry, banana, orange, and slimjim (though the last flavor is only available for female consumption)

Good point.

It is an idea that should get it’s chance… and I vote “aye.”

But it won’t happen.

I rarely post outside my comfort zone, the over 35 lifters forum. I do lurk here occasionally and in a couple of other forums. Not a bodybuilder, never had the discipline it requires, so I’d never been to the BB forum until reading this thread. I found subjects on almost everything but bodybuilding there. I’ve no clue how the administrators would do it but I think those of you who really train and live the bodybuilding lifestyle need some kind of place you can call your own. Just in case someones actually counting votes I vote yes for you.

I’m starting to think you may be right.

If the powers that be are listening I would instead recommend:

  1. Changing the current sub forum names to:

-Strictly Bodybuilding
-Sports Performance
-Beginners
-Women (consolidate)
-Over 35

Ditch “Rate my physique”

Keep the other off topic sub forums

A handful of selected “poster mods” could be granted permission to move (not delete) certain threads to their correct sub forum.

This way “noob” questions will be moved to the correct forum (which will also let the person know “where they stand”). Same thing for sports related questions.

  1. Personal logs should be kept in profiles and off of sub forums because they just clutter everything up (or create a new sub forum for them)
  • If logs are required to be maintained in profiles (and people think they will be forgotten or go unnoticed), you can add a function to “nudge” a fellow poster you respect to get his feedback on.

I think this is not dissimilar to what has been discussed in other threads. The ability to move threads to appropriate forums is needed as well as appropriate forums for them (general, other, whatever…).

Let me reconceptualize the Dog Pound–
What if instead of just a limited number of people can post questions it is that a more established/trusted members get to post answers and remove/delete the question if they choose? It would be a forum where members could go for advice without the litter of newbie spouts (sorry, could not think of a better term). It moves towards a think tank.

There is a question of who gets to be the established/trusted members. I suggest they are nominated and vetted by other members (perhaps limited to a minimum length of time on the site).

This gets back towards the idea of the new guy getting the respect of the big guys in the gym. You can be ignored (deleted), curtly answered, or given some good guidance.

I envision a forum thick with good advice but not that much traffic.

I agree. I also think a better idea would be to make it open to everyone, but allow a few to be able to delete posts that simply don’t belong…like people talking about how doing “combat pyramids” to a “level three” is what we should all be training for.

You could label is something like “What the site used to be”…or maybe something less dramatic like “Hardcore Bodybuilding”.

How about just moving the inappropriate threads to their proper place? I think that’ll work much better

I’m for it, but like other people have stated, what would be the criteria? Post count? Time? Perceived accomplishments? A popularity contest?

Nobody is making you read anyone’s log. As a V-Dieter and V-Diet logger, I enjoy reading other people’s V-Diet logs because I empathize with them and it’s a good place for encouragement through a tough diet. It’s no different than the dozens of “Race to a 300 lb Bench” type logs in the Strength Sports forum. I enjoy reading those as well.

I also agree with the Thinktank sentiment by analog_kid. The roundtables were fucking amazing too, what happened to them?

Because they’ll never get the mods to do it all the time, that’s too much work. But if what was suggested is applied then the Bodybuilding section becomes partially self-moderated. So far it’s the best idea IMO.

I’d just like to call attention to the “Bodybuilder Bunker” and the “Brotherhood of Iron” threads. These are pretty much typical of what people who are in favor of the Dog Pound idea are talking about…and they also seem to be drawing quite a viewership.

Bodybuilder Bunker is working just fine so far.
