Restoring a 69 Dodge Dart

Damn you guys have some fine American Muscle cars! Haha I blew up 2 US engines so I’m going the German route these days. Give me 2 more years and I’ll have that SLK 55 AMG with a more powerful super-charger.

I’m determined to make a foreign car that can keep up with a Muscle car without the NOS and stupid ricer crap.

EDIT: I blew up (caught on fire) a chevy small block 350

Advice? skip the SLK 55 they’re cool and all but theyre NA no supercharger, and TINY. Get yourself a 2005 E55 5.5 liter supercharged son with endless upgrades from RENNtech. Sorry I just moved back to Ohio from Chicago where i was a Mercedes-Benz service manager and got to head up our RENNtech division, i love those cars. or depending on your kwan hehe theres always the SL 55/65. Also as of yesterday lol I’m building a little 3.0 liter V6 that will definitely keep up and beat most V8’s granted it will have two turbochargers and a badge that says 300zx but still

Yeah those hemi’s are something else. I think you asked me the year on the cam game. It’s a 67 RS. Low original miles, I blew up the 327 and little by little went completely nuts on it after that! Shit’s ridiculous now.

                  good thread!

                   ToneBone[/quote]

A 1967 huh?..(drooling)… HAHA NICE bro! Thats my FAVORITE year of the camaro EVER. I cant believe you blew up the 327 that little things bullit proof?!get some pics up asap tone!

Haha well a 300zx is a badass toy!! The guy that lived next to me for a while had one with twin turbos, very nice!

The SLK has super chargers from brabus and kleenman.
With the following mods I could get 550hp
kleemann supercharger
Kleemann ecu/tcu
kleemann long tube headers
kleemann sport cats (secondary)
Custom exhaust
However working for a German company I’ll prob. let Brabus handle it.

OK End hyjack for me, sorry!

Uh oh…looks like there are a few fellow car aficionados on here:)

The E55 is sick. I raced one about a month ago in my bone stock, 97 Z/28, 6spd, and got my ass handed to me. Clearly I knew I was gonna lose, but still good fun.

I spent the last 2 years working as a freelance pro driver, doing gigs for virtually all the major companies, I’ve had the chance to flog some nice kit, and the E55 is a sweet ride for a 4 door.

The Z in action…

End Hijack;)

Game over, nice ride, I’m currently restoring a 69 GTX numbers matching with a 440. Just a question though. Why would you switch the engine from a 383 to a 340? Both are screamers but if you had the right gears for the 383 it would be much more powerful on the bottom and enough top end to get the job done in the 1/4’s.

Don’t get me wrong 340 barracuda’s and darts obviously rip. Call me a traditionalist but I would also say that by putting a different motor in your decreasing the value of the car by not keeping it matching.

None the less, paint and boyd wheels are SIICCK. It looks like your going for a drag car, with those fatties and I can sure appreciate that. How many base Horsies are you hoping to crank out in the end? Is it a full frame off restoration? I hope your going to continue to document the progress on this car from one restorer to the next I sure appreciate the muscle. Good Luck!!

Brabus is PRICEY SHIT! i thought i was rackin in the dough doing the RENNtech upgrades but damn that brabbus shit is nutz! If you’re into Brabus then you’ve heard of the EV12 right? holy shit a E-class that beats a SLR no joke!

kleemann is some bad shit too mang sounds like a kickass plan! wish i could fit into and SLK :frowning: lol Ans BTW its not a true 300zx if it aint got the twin spools  Hijack all you want all car nutz welcome lol

Yeah its alomost done now i took over the resto half-way through. It was on a rotisserie and everything i wish i had pics from the last guy who was doing it i’ll see if i can get ahold of him, so its MINT now. Totally media-blasted and all. Man there are some guys with killer rides on here the GTX is a BEAST.

You are correct wtih the gearing and engine comment, The reason i swapped out the 383 is even though the HP isnt all that much different between the 340 and 383 the 383 was just too much. (i know i know no such thing BUT) Im actually restoring this car for a optomitrist here in town.

I also did an 87 Buick GNX for him. He’s planning on driving this car maybe once a week at the most and just car shows around town and stuff. So i dont need nutz HP out of it, i just couldnt help myself with the M.T’s they’re just so damn cool! lol

Dont feel bad some guy in one of the new charger SRT8s was at the gas station by our shop and i rolled up in a S65- BIG ASS FAMILY CAR (that happens to have a bi-turbo V12) and RAPED him i dont think he knew… oops! hehe i got to drive a E55 as my demo for about 4 weeks and i dotn wanna know how many mustangs and ricers i made look dumb with 4 people in the car lol plus i happen to know how to put all the mercedes cars in whats called DYNO mode?

for anyone the knows benzs it completely disables all traction control more than just pushing the Traction control button does and eliminates all A/C and accesories to let you have FULL horsepower- tricks of the trade i guess

Damn nice car. And a Damn nice thread. I’ve gotta forward this to my Dad. He’s working on a '69 Dart Swinger, or he’s supposed to be at least. I think its just sitting in the garage right now.

Speaking of garages, you’ve got a nice set up there. Drooling and envious.

My brother switches between driving his '72 Chevelle SS and his '06 Harley V-Rod.

I’m currently in the middle of a major overhaul of my '81 Chevy pickup. New 350 Crate motor, new 700R4 transmission, new 3.83 rear end, and all the crap that connects one to the other. Plus upgrading to the R134a A/C, after 8 years of no A/C I finally broke down.

How much did the AC set you back? I have a 96’ GMC that needs a new one before summer.

Bujo you have quite the family of cars there. I have to say I’m a big fan of pretty much everything you’ve listed. The Dart Swinger- Classic, Chevelle also classic although I’m a fan of the 65-67’s. As far as trucks go, I think an 81 chevy has the most potential to be modded for street or for off roading.

RJ being a 96 you should already have a R134a system? you probably should start with a recharge/Dye that way you can see where your leak is coming from

Man 72 SS and a v-rod huh?! nice little setup hes got there! Yeah thanks the garage is actually an updated barn. Being as i live on a farm my old man still lives on the same plot of land just about a mile and half down the lane. We have 4 barns each one around 4500Sq. Ft so i just moved some tractors/combines around and made room for a lift

The compressor is burnt up. I’m not a car guy, or an A/C guy - but that is what I was told.

What you need to do is watch the compressor and have someone turn your A/C on to see it the clutch engages. either way the dye would show no matter where the leak was WARNING: A/C work gets PRICEY! once you crack the system open you’ll need another recharge and receiver/dryer also. Your more than likely have leaky lines

About $350. Its mostly for a new compressor and a few fittings. The old R-12 system just has to be flushed clean then R134a can be added. About 10 years ago it would cost nearly $1000 because most places would replace the entire system.

All I can suggest is shop around. If it is the compressor then buy new and save yourself the headache of refurbished or used compressors.

Thanks man. I got to grow up with old ass cars. My granddad was touring member of the Early Model Ford V-8 club so I got to rip apart quite a few Flathead V-8s while my friends were modding thier Nissans by changing mufflers. Its funny, the older my grandfather gets the older his cars get starting with '70 Mustang and ending with '40 Ford Coupe. The older my dad gets the newer his cars get, going from a '51 Dodge Wayfarer to a '55 V-8 Dodge Pickup to his current '69 Dart.

The '81 Pickup was the first vehicle I ever bought. I drove her all over Texas to car shows and swap meets, heard a thousand stories from guys who had owned '73 - '86 Chevy Pickup, and how they wished they hadn’t sold them. So I’ve kept her. And you’re right there is alot of room to play with these girls.

Sounds like most car guys’ wet dream. A place to call there own and enough room to build the shop they want.
