Replace Ensure With...?

The information I shared is what qualified professionals would say. People here are giving recommendations based on what they “feel” is right without any scientific, evidence-based support for what they say or consideration of advers consequences.

This is dangerous. The tenets of nutrition that many here are used to are not universal. Special cases require special considerations. Pregnancy is just one example of a special case. Women have to be very careful of what they put into their bodies when they are pregnant. Using supplements that have not been evaluated by the medical community for safety in regards to pregnancy is irresponsible when the long-term health of a baby is so easily influenced by maternal diet.

How can anyone argue with this?
First of all I never said she should consume supps, I think my first statement made this clear. Second, science can only show us the way things work in a near perfect, controlled environment and therefore cannot be held as “law” when it comes to the wellfair of an unborn child. And I stick with my previous statement on you being in your own little world.

Wow, that was uncalled for. I am trying to help out a friend that has to stay in bed 23 out of 24 hours for the next 4 months and you call her retarded?

She is already eating more than ever before in her life, and yet needs additional “building blocks”. She was tiring of drinking Ensure so I thought the T-Nation could provide additional options to those I already presented.

Clearly some on this board can provide useful suggestions, others are just clueless.

I’M THE CLUELESS ONE? Your friend is clueless. She can’t physically eat? Is this like a hereditary problem?
Seriously, it really isn’t all that hard. My mother ate while pregnant, and she’s had 2 children!

Seems like your mother dropped you on your head a few times. If you have nothing worthwhile to add please just move on.

My friend was probably 105 lbs soaking wet prior to pregnancy, and has a fast metabolism. She is eating more high quality food than ever before and yet needs additional calories based upon the progress of her pregnancy.

She has been prescribed bedrest because of a short cervix and a two-vessel umbilical (instead of three). This baby will be premature (not full term) so they are taking action.

I think she is fine with Ensure, but is getting tired of the same thing again and again. I do not think anyone would really crave 3-4 servings of Ensure a day for 4 months or so.

Alright you to, break it up. I think that what SS was trying to say (as well as myself) was that if she can consume the thick liquid that is Ensure 3x/day than there should be no reason why she can’t add some chewing into the process and just have some more good solid food.

My mother charted out her nutrition for the nine month period and force fed herself before sleep if she forgot anything from the list during the day.

Needless to say I came out on time at 11 lbs 2 ounces. an extremely healthy 11 lbs. I wasn’t fat, but very big compared to a newborn. If i were a woman i’d probably do the same thing. it just makes sense.
I like this idea, too. A little extreme but pregnancy is “a little extreme” as well. LOL

Almost… I’m very bitter. She simply pisses me off as she is trying to take the easy road. She can eat, she can drink more ensure. Tell her to shut up and quit being a wimpy. Don’t feel like I’m attacking her, I snap on my own family when they’re idiots.

Dude, loosen up. You don’t even know the woman or what she’s going through, so why get your panties in a bunch over her appetite?

Ungarn - Looks like you should have posed your question on the T-Vixen forum, which probably would have yielded more sympathetic, informed and useful opinions like Angelbutt’s.

I think any meal replacement used as a supplement to the solid food she’s already taking in will only help her, whether it be Ensure or whatever she finds palatable. Give Classic Grow! or Metabolic Drive mixed with milk a go. She’ll probably find them better tasting than Ensure.

Best wishes to your friend.

Do you even read your posts? Now you are calling my friend lazy, wimpy, and an idiot. Your small mind is on display for all. Cheers.
