As for the history itself: I’m comfortable calling Columbus the “discoverer” of America. Others may have been here, but their visits did not lead to the exploration and colonization that lead to what America is today (whether that’s good or bad is a separate topic).

Jackson has been circling the drain for years now which has been evidenced by the surrounding cities (Madison, Pearl, Flowood) exploding and every business leaving for them as fast as they can get out. With this guy leading the way one can only assume that things are only going to get worse.
No one is taught that he was the first person to discover America. Even when I was in school they mentioned the Vikings and of course the Indians. People simply do not understand what the word discover means. When this clown says that Columbus didn’t discover America because it wasn’t lost, he’s just engaging in the type of rhetoric that works on uneducated poor people.
