Remembering John Cardillo

Does anyone - apart from me and Ellington - remember Canadian High Intensity advocate John Cardillo? He has recently published a new book on HIT that may be of interest. He was pushed a lot by Iron Man magazine in the 80’s. I did try and track him down once but his gym had closed down.

Ell - any stories about him that you can share?

Thx,

Jeff

I remember an interview with him in Bodybuilding Monthly many years ago. I tend to remember the HIT people better because there wasn’t as many of them and because that was my preferred method of training.

I didn’t know about his book, I’ll probably get it in the near future.

Bodybuilding Monthly did a nice series of articles on Nautilus, their work on the effects of inroad and their philosophy back in the very early days of the magazine.

Cardillo made by far the best weight belt that I have ever owned. It was double thickness, and covered in maroon swede with my first name cut out showing white letters. I opted for the single holes for easier getting on and off. The cut outs (shown in photo) on the sides made breaking the belt in a very quick process. And much nicer to my lower ribs and hip bones.

I agree. They’re nice belts. I have one as well. It’s a different Cardillo though. John Cardillo is Canadian. The belts are made by Steve Cardillo.

Thanks for the clarification and education.

I got the kindle version, it’s a pretty good read. His physiology is a bit off (with respect to fiber recruitment, fiber tension and activation and his protein synthesis time courses are off ) but otherwise it’s a good read.
