You prefer Satan?
I am not a huge fan of cherry picking scriptures out of the Bible, or any book really. Itâs very easy to manipulate the texts to make it sound the way you want it to. Make God the bad guy? Sure, introduce some out of context scripts.
I had the same problem with people doing that to he Quran, which is why I quit paying attention to non-muslims making declarations about what the script means.
Itâs part of my non-aggression pact, donât mess with me, I wonât mess with you. You start killing people for insane reasons, your going to get the horns of that bullâŠ
BTW, when are these morons in the East gonna stop thinking the U.S. is weak willed and run at the first sight of blood? Japan thought that, oops. Korea thought that, it was not a pleasant discovery for them, when we explained in action that wasnât true. The Vietnamese thought that, they were wrong. Iraq thought that twice, one too many times as it turns out. Al Qaeda thought that, ISIS thought that, etc.
Every time the east thought the U.S. was weak kneed, their knees got capped. How many times does that lesson need to be learned before it sticks?
A perfect being with itâs own will, with unlimited power and knowledge can do anything it wants. Even if itâs apparently contradictory.
Of course, I am sympathetic to the âwhy are we here?â questions for God. I do intend to ask him why He made things the way he did, when I meet Him.
I donât have an answer. I really have no clue. Is it fun? Perhaps. Maybe there is some super deep meaningful reason I certainly am not privy to. I certainly would have liked life to be a little easier, but it isnât. But I whine in private about it.
Anybody that tells you life just gets better and better as a Christian or a theist of any kind has not been one for very long. Itâs far from an easy life. But I believe in good over evil, right over wrong. And those convictions are strong for me and require a root. Without a root itâs a free for all for me. And over time, I see the wisdom even in the misery, because the alternative would have been far worse.
I donât know why God made it the way He did, but I try to do my best to deal with it.
Nah, sorry. Just a generalized address.
Sorry @BrickHead, I keep fading in and out of the thread while focused on some recent events threads⊠Hope you found what you were looking for.
We won?
We won?
They still exist, with our support.
They arenât around anymore?
How many Americans need to die to teach a lesson that we ourselves need to learn?
Thank you. This might come across as abrupt but Iâve decided I want my household religious and am shaking off atheism as time goes on, if that makes any sense, and am starting RCIA this month. As stated before my wife Is Catholic and my kids were baptized.
Usually I donât like staring goals or objectives because Iâd feel like a fool if I were to not finish something, but I think itâs alright considering the topic and what Iâve expressed here.
So you are now convinced a God exists?
Yes.
Then you are a theist. Once convinced you are. There isnât a transition period.
Well, I suppose one can ponder over the issue with himself until he comes to a conclusion. Regardless, I think religion is very important, as said, judged on the performance, benefits and behaviors I said before. Keep in mind I base that off of my observation of living in the most diverse area of all the USA; I was not talking about the comparisons of countries and their respective religions.
I would say that until you believe in a God, you are agnostic / atheist. Pondering but not believing would make you agnostic / atheist. Once you are convinced in a God, then you are theist.
Welcome! The journey has only begun. Itâs one that I myself continue to navigate as my understanding deepens or changes. God bless!
I wouldnât declare what somebody is outside of what they claim. @BrickHead has decided to start a journey because the faith contains things that are important to him as he stated.
Everybody has their doubts. Perhaps he doesnât feel it yet and maybe he will soon or maybe he just makes a cognitive commitment. Either way, he stated that the tenets of the faith are important to him. Itâs better that he accept the premises then try to fake it. After all, he can always leave, itâs purely up to him.
So @BrickHead you know where to find me if you have any questions. And I am sure @Sloth will also be happy to help. Happy to help and welcome to the family! I hope that you will always feel at home and welcome in the Church.
I donât think I did that. I asked him if he was convinced. He said he was, then I said he was a theist. It is factual. He isnât âshaking off atheism as time goes byâ if he is convinced a god exists now. He has already completely shaken atheism off already.
Fair enough. I donât actually think you said anything bad, I was just affirming we should take him at his word. Faith is a journey, not an end. And I think I just was making a long winded way of saying that.
@Sloth @pat thanks for kind words.
Regarding government, at this point Iâd take a theocracy or monarchy over the scam called democracy that ALWAYS devolves into oligarchy and technocracy!
Inb4 âAre you gonna be the monarch?â No, I wouldnât be. Iâm certainly not qualified.
âDemocracy is the worst form of government, except for all the others.â
â Winston S. Churchill
Did he mean they all suck?
Kinda. I think he was saying it is the least bad.
I canât point to a theocracy that I think is very successful, unless the Vatican counts. I certainly wouldnât move to Iran to get one. That doesnât mean it canât work.
Monarchy could be great if you get a great leader. Their heir might suck balls though, and that has happened a lot in history.
