Within the secular world those attracted to Islam are overwhelmingly male.
From a religious standpoint I can see why Islam might be attractive. Particularly regarding how popular it is. An Islamic individual within a large Islamic community is more/less free from persecution so long as they fall in line.
However from a practical standpoint when applied to society aside from the UAE there isn’t a single Islamic country thst entails a decent standard of living for the average citizen.
Poor access to healthcare services, poor standards of education, mass poverty and famine, serious abuses of power/rampant political corruption, legitimised terrorism (Hezbollah and the likes) and more. I’m not saying you advocate for this or that you agree with it as I know you don’t. I’m pointing out the problems associated with Islam when we refer to societies run under Islamic doctrine.
I’m also not a fan of the rigid nature associated with Islamic constructs. I’m not using extremes, I’m stating Islam might be growing quickly, but societal fundamentals held up by Islam/shariah law generally entail countries of whose track records encompassing human rights, quality of living and political status are universally panned by Western and non western (albeit non islamic) countries alike.
Islam has been exploited and used as an excuse to bring barbaric, overbearing, punitive leaders into power. When you have a population that for the most part doesn’t think critically or question any authority when religion is brought into question you can justify various atrocities “it is gods will”.
I’d also argue with Islam… how much religion is too much religion? The modern Islamic individual who practices might prey five or more times per day… not just a small prayer either, a prolonged ritual.
I’m asking you @BrickHead specifically here. From your perspective, how much of one’s life ought to directly revolve around religion?
I’m not talking about morality/principles. I’m talking about prayer, going to a mosque/church/synogague, talking about or reading scripture etc.
