Though whole wheat pasta is “better” for you, shouldn’t I want the extra insulin punch of regular pasta??
they are both fine, but regular pasta/rice is what i usually go for.

How soon pwo? Straight after training or an hour or so afterwards?
What difference to you really think it will make?
The typical response is to go for the more ‘simple’ forms of carbs PWO when you can, but in all honesty, I really doubt the difference between regular pasta and whole wheat pasta is of any reall level of importance.

a good whole wheat pasta can have up to 3 times the amount of fiber that regular pasta has. with that much fiber, absorption must be considerably slower that regular pasta.
Most pasta is comprised of complex carbs,(and very little in the way of sugars) which are generally not what you would want for an optimal PWO insulin spike, or cortisol control. Considering that you’re discussing utilizing less than ideal sources for this specific situation, you’re splitting hairs, and at the end of the day, you won’t notice a difference.

okay that makes sense to me. would you consider maltodextrin a complex carb then, or less than ideal for PWO insulin spike?
RIGHT after my workout, I drink a somewhat of a recovery drink of Gatorade powder mixed with Whey protein(35 carbs, 20 grams of protein, and 31 sugars) But an hour after i drink that, i have a bowl of pasta. Also, should i eat an form of protein with the pasta?
PWO, gummie bears > pasta
Immediately after a workout, you are looking for an insulin spike to put you in a more anabolic state and to help control cortisol production, which you are accomplishing with your shake. The simple, fast acting sugars in gatorade should be enough for this.
However, an hour after your workout you would want something a little more stable, something to continue supplying you with nutrients. IMO, at this point whole wheat pasta would be the better choice since it will have a lower GI because of all the extra fiber. This will stabilize blood sugar levels and will help with recovery since it will be providing you with nutrients for longer.
pizza > working out
I actually had times where I was done training, and had to wait for someone… Luckily I had some quarters on me, so I was able to find those vending machines that take a quarter and give you a handful of Mike n’ Ikes -lol. Obviously I tried to get a whey shake as soon as I got home, but sometimes you do what you have to do.
