Reducing Supplement Regime

It just occurred to me, were our ancestors’ bodies adapted to get nutrition from pills? Or maybe perhaps they were meant to get all their nutrition from whole food.

So my question is: are supplements really THAT necessary or is diet and nutrition more so? I personally think supplements nowadays are being abused too much and not enough vegetables / fruit aren’t being eaten.

So would a paleolithic diet be much more optimal than taking multis, fish oils, and a host of others?

Sure I do admit: EVERYTHING IN MODERATION. That being said, I still am going to include my zma, glucosamine, betaine hcl, and creatine but maybe cut out my fish oils (eat more salmon instead) and multivitamin (eating exclusively fruits, vegetables, nuts, and oats in the morning as my carb sources). Any flaws in this?

Also another question: would protein powders be considered ‘not natural’. as in the protein is meant to interact with the lactose, fat, and casein in milk therefore making it kinda ‘unnatural’ to eat?

gee i worry too much

I see what you’re saying. knowledge of supplementation is power, so i guess we have to be responsible about it. that’s funny, out of your supplement list, i was hoping you’d at least keep the fish oil. I don’t think your body cares as much if that’s from salmon or not, but i could be wrong.

yes there are flaws the foods by our ancestors wee ultra loaded with micro nutrients and the proper fats etcv from natural uncultivated growth

Now this day n age much harder to get the adequate let alone optimal from food though yes it shld be the base

I could be mistaken, but I am almost certain our ancestors lived short shitty lives lol.

I’m not saying we live so well because of supplements, it’s more medical science than anything. But the supps don’t really seem to be hurting. I guess I question the idealization of primitive man to a certain extent too. But to each his own, I certainly would agree that you CAN get everything you need from food.

I’d keep fish oil (make sure its high quality) also keep taking Whey (try and buy bulk unflavoured) those are two supps that will help you a lot and are very natural so should keep with what you want to do…

Your ancestors weren’t trained MMA fighters, basketball players, football players, bodybuilders, or competive atheletes. With 9 to 5 jobs and no time to acquire their food.
Yes if you just want to live a healthy quaker life you can just living off of whole foods. You can even be athletic, but if your trying to get to the top, you have to do what people nowadays do to get to the top.

That being said protein powder is not natural, it is manufactured, probably more than breads and flour. Even pasturized milk is not natural. And eating fish can’t give you nearly what people recommend you get from fish oils.

the recommendation for fish oils still get me; there are TONS of fats in salmon. I think around 15g for 4 oz.

On top of that, eating the mediterranean diet is the healthiest way to eat according to many studies ive heard and they eat lots of fish vegetables, fruits, pretty much a paleolithic diet.

but of that 15, probably only 1-2 grams are omega-3’s. how much salmon are you planning on eating a day here?

not to be a bitch but its actually around 4g of omega-3s for every 12g so basically 1/3 of the fats.

now fish oils have around half if im not mistaken. so ya i guess fish oils r ok to take. however, I would be skeptical about taking vitamins and minerals in capsule form. Lonnie Lowery made many articles on why its better to just eat whole foods:
