Red Meat

I agree with Goldberg, correlation is not causation. Americans higher rate of heart disease is more likely attributable to french fries and cokes (trans-fats and sugars).
If you look at it from a historical perspective, it’s only logical that red meat would confer so many benefits. We’ve been consuming red meat for millions of years, and thus our body chemistry has specially evolved to utilize all the nutrients red meat gives us. (in other words, red meat gives us all the right nutrients in just the right amounts). It is my personal opinion that you could live to a ripe old age eating nothing but red meat and a varied assortment of vegetables.
Of course I hear objections about the ‘bad fats’ in red meat. First of all…nearly half the fats in red meat are mono’s. I must also comment that in nature, grass fed cows have a much lower saturated fat content. It is only because we raise our cattle on grains instead of grass that they have a moderate amount of saturated fat. Grass fed cows have much fewer saturates, and even a good deal of Omega-3 polys. (Lesson, if you’re afraid of a little saturated fat, buy the leaner cuts or buy grass-fed beef. Personally, I don’t think saturates are bad at all in sane amounts - though it’s not as if I go out looking for them)
Sorry for my rant. It just really bugs me that red meat has such a bad reputation and is considered ‘unhealthy’ by some. Quite the contrary, I think red meat (grass fed especially) is one of the healthiest foods available (perhaps only behind fish). Oh well, if you don’t want to buy it, it only serves to make the cost lower for me. Your loss.

Its the iron…iron increases hemoglobin…which takes oxygen to red blood cells…when you have lower levels of iron tiredness is a symptom…and a lack of endurance…and a loss of strength…so keep taking in some red meat like you are…good luck

hey yall i just read some of the peoples post…its not the fuckin creatine that causes these effects…yeah red meat does have creatine in it…but that has nothign to do with what hes talkin about…get that idea out of your head…thats totally wrong…its the iron…do some research if you dont believe me…and i have a degree in nutrition by the way…good luck

Anyone who throws around the word correlation just because needs to learn some statistics. Just because 2 things are correlated doesn’t mean one causes the other, eg. traffic to the beach & flowers blooming. They’re correlated, but one doesn’t cause the other, they’re caused by nice weather.

I’ll tell you what, I killed 4 female white tail deer and butchered them myself this past year. I made sure to make really nice cuts of meat that can go straight on the grill. A hunting license cost me $20 and I got a year’s worth of meat. This meat is so tender and needs to be basted with some kind of fat (oil or margerine & apple vinegar) just to make it a little juicy (it is still much leaner than beef). Marinade with some hickory& maple sauce or beer, and damn! It’s excellent post-workout or for barbeque with friends. So if you are a real T-man, don’t shell out the cash- kill your own! Put those muscles to work and haul back some meat!

Try wrapping it with a really nice apple wood smoked bacon, use the expensive stuff and get sliced thin. Kicks ass.

Here’s one for you guys… Eating all the Red meat. I use to be a competive bodybuilder lived for lean red meat and supplements. I would eat chicken, fish, turkey to mix it up but most of my protien source came from red meat and supplements. And my carbs was Brown rice, bake potato, sweet potato, veggies. I rarely ate pasta, white rice and sweets… I did that for about 5-6 years…

Just reacently I was diagnosed with cancer and I can’t figure out why. It doesn’t run in our family and Asians also rarely get cancer so why is that I got it? Just the draw of the luck?

So upon further investgation the only thing I can think of is the ecessive red meat and supplements I used. Otherwise can someone like Mike Mahlar or TC help me out on this one.

I am not saying that red meat is bad for you I REPEATE I AM NOT SAYING RED MEAT IS BAD. All I am saying you must couple it with a balance diet of protien carbs and fat. with protien being a little higher then carbs and fat and in take you fibrous crabs also.

Just watch your meat intake thats all I am saying too many people are say the more red meat you eat the better. But don’t say I didn’t warn you…

Patrica and Ko Yes I do agree with you that some asain culture eat red meat only if they can afford it and that is the minority.

The MAJORITY of the asain population outside the USA can not afford RED MEAT!!! Have you ever lived in Japan or China? Have you even visted your home land?

I have I am chinese and I went there recently. I lived with my uncle who is rich so we did eat red meat at his house but my mother’s uncle was a middle class citzen and they couldn’t even afford meat… We did eat mostly fish chicken and pork… You are correct that we eat a lot of pork. But then why do they live longer in China and the far east? And did you know the middle class citizen of china will out live the upper?

Also they smoke like a chimmney stack… Why don’t they have a high risk for cancer or heart disease? My mothers uncle is 80 years old smokes 2 packs of cig a day and looks likes he’s 50 years young… Why is that??? Maybe its because of the way they eat???

To Goldberg I resent that coment about asains not being tall… Do know that the NBA is trying to recruite a Basketball player from China that is well over 7 ft? The only reason why he is not playing over here yet is be cause China is not allowing him… Also both my brothers who are younger one is 6’1 the other is 5’10 makes you feel short now huh Goldberg???

It’s probably the iron, zinc, fat, boosting test along with creatine. But if it really works for you eat it 4-5 times a week or more especially if your bulking or on a low carb diet.

actually im 6 foot tall. I dont know why they would make me feel short. im sorry that you have cancer and i wish you luck in treating it but your evidence for red meat causing your cancer is ridiculous. Just because you cant think of anything that caused it doesnt mean something else didnt cause it. it could have been caused by ANYTHING.

Dallas has that 7-footer from China riding the pine for them. You know, they call him the Big Wang…

Again…great stuff, guys! So…there is some physiology and biochemistry behind what I’m feeling, for sure…

Fitone, everyday were exposed to all kind of things that could cause cancer, have you ever used a mobile phone, did you watch or standed near a tv or computer monitor? Maybe the air has some polution in it? Who knows? The list is endless… sorry to hear about your condition and i sincerely hope you get better, but i really see no reason to blame it on the red meat.

Hmmm, why do people in the far east live longer? Yeah, you’re right, it must be the red meat, huh. Nevermind that twinkies, soft drinks and donuts don’t constitute a large part of their diet, unlike many americans. Point is, there are many many factors of difference between the two cultures, and to single out red meat is rediculous.

I did not BLAME RED MEAT for getting cancer did I say that I just said watch out an Execisve amount might! Too much of anything is not good for you… JUST Don’t say red meat is the only true protien source! Thats all I am trying to point out Thats what I am getting at what most people are trying to say in this forum.

Fitone, I think that the way that animals are raised and what they are fed make many meats very unhealthy. Many factory farms feed animals saw dust and pump them up with all kinds of hormones (Yes, I have been to many factory farms and have seen this first hand) I have had some farmers tell me that they feed their animals their own feces. Thus, if you are going to eat meat, I recommend that you get organic meats from quality farms. Yes, it will cost more, however your life is not the area that you want to put on a budget.

thanks for the the insite. I agree with that Organic Red meat is the way to go…
